>read a short story
>its actually good
anyone else know this feel?
Yes. This collection, and also 'Poor Folk and other stories' contain good short novellas and stories by Dost.
What are some credible writers, who were also genuine idiots losers, underachievers? Bonus points if they published forst work really late, havent study humanities, and they worked in unrelated field.

Do you read the introductory part of a book?
only after i've read the book
>>8327247

>>8327279
because i don't want to spoil shit, and i like to experience the book and form my own opinions first and then check out what other people thought afterwards
>Page 350 of Infinite Jest.
>Its actually pretty good, incredibly complicated but still entertaining.
>I want to keep reading it but at the same time IT JUST KEEPS GOING AND GOING AND GOING ON AND ON AND ON.
>Read for a couple hours and check how thick the remaining pages look.
>Haven't made a dent.
>Put too much of a time investment to stop reading it.
>5 new shorter books have arrived in the past day or so and I badly want to read them now.
How long did it take you guys to read Infinite Meme?
At least once I finish this book I can say that i've read it, and every other book will feel like a breeze.
Just put it on a prominent place on your bookshelf and claim that you've read it like everyone else here.
>>8327202
it's not complicated. you are stupid.
>>8327202
It's a chore to read. The long endnotes that also have footnotes get to me. Dude 2 bookmarks lmao

Could someone direct me to a source for Marcus Porcius Cato's "Origines"?
It's oddly hard to find. Why?
By the way, is there any edition in English og Gnaeus Gellius' "Annales"?
>-"Yo, John Florio, my man... a sonnet! What was this sonnet thing, again?"
<"Why, that's an easy one. A sonnet is two quartets, problem and elaboration, and two sextets with the resolution."
>-"No! Fuck, no."
<-"Why, Shakes? what's wrong?"
>-"I have three quartets and two lines of resolution in the end."
<-"So? Well, unclench thy buttocks and rewrite."
>-"Rewrite? Rewrite!? John, I wrote 154 bloody non-sonnets."
<...
>...
<-"Them plebs won't notice anyway."

>two sextets

Will having a good grasp of philosophy and psychology help me be a better writer?
>>8326788
Ask Miguel Delibes
Of course. Have you read any Dostoevsky? Guy could've probably both been an academic philosopher and a psychiatrist.
>>8326788
Having a decent grasp of psychology, equivalent to one semester of university level psychology courses, will help you create more believable characters. You have a better understanding of social dynamics and different personality theories, and can make up more realistic personal conflicts—one character might be bothered and motivated by material comfort, another might be an idealistic, and yet another has schizoid or autistic traits. It is not necessary but it might certainly help.
any books about sex and society//culture ?

What is the Dune Messiah of real literature?
dune messiah was bad. I just read it a few weeks ago and hardly remember it.yeah we rebuilt you duncan idaho so he'd turn on you but surprise he was actually loyal!what a TWEEST
I heard god-emporer was amazing but fuck that noise. Dune had breddy gud worldbuilding, dune messiah was just our mary-sue MC stringing along through random bullshit. All the sociologically insightful bene gesserit stuff was gone too.
Basically, what I'm saying is: you want the DM of real literature? Ask your local librarian for the most forgettable book she's ever read.

Don't.
Read Robert McKee's 'Story'.
Funniest book of all time?
