/k/ommandos, I am going to be backcountry camping in a national park in a few months. Estimated 35 mile hike to where a buddy and I will be staying. It's brown bear country on top of mountain lion/black bear.
I'm not trying to make this into a caliber debate or anything like that to preface this. Just looking for advice from people that are regularly in bear country. I have done a bit of research and people say 45-70 is the go to brown bear caliber. I could pick up a Marlin guide rifle for around $450. I have also heard that a lot of guides in Alaska carry a 12 gauge. I have multiple but the one I would bring is a 2002 Remington 870. I hear the go-to is a Brenneke black mag slug. I am definitely well versed in firing slugs but I have never shot 45-70.
As for my sidearm. I don't have a 10mm or a revolver of a capable caliber. If I were to get one, what would you suggest? I would prefer not to spend over $500 on a backup gun I will never have to use.
All advice/stories/info is appreciated. And before a bunch of people sperg out about bear spray, we will both have it on us at all times.

Jeez, don't carry a rifle or shotgun around with you while hiking. I promise you, you will get sick of carrying the weight.
Bring a firearm for people if you want, just bring bear mace for bear. No point pouring money into a backup gun you won't be good enough to shoot well.
>>34845601
I'm a vet. I'm used to carrying a rifle for extended periods of time. I don't trust bear mace to work on a pissed off charging bear. I would only use it if a bear was passively wandering too close for comfort. And if I were to get a backup gun I would have months to train with it before I go, so that is a non-issue.

Get a smith 29. It's practical and generally all around fun to shoot. If you're going for a rifle, .45-70 isn't a bad choice at all, buy old marlin.
So my FOID card was approved, but not received yet. So while I wait, I have two questions:
Good first pistol? What does a brand new pistol come with? I'm hoping a case, a manual, and a trigger lock.
What supplies would I need? Cleaning stuff, tools, Ear/Eye pro, that kind of stuff
Rules: treat it as if its loaded, dont flag/sweep people, what else?
Last time I fired a gun I was a teenager. .20ga shotgun and .22lr bolt action. Looking for ways to get up to speed.

What the fuck is a FOID card

Firearm Owners Identification card. My guess is that OP is from Illinois.

Go finger fuck them in a store, find the one you like then look online for one cheap and transfer it to the store. Look them in the eye when you buy it and laugh for not getting dicked over by their prices. Buy some Hoppes oil and YouTube a disassembly guide. Enjoy your new handgat.
Hey boys, curious faggot here. I was rummaging around an old bookstore/antique shop when I stumbled across this beauty in a cardboard box behind a life-size startrek cutout of Spock. I asked the part time owner what it was and he had no idea. Being a weapons/military scrub i decided to ask yall what it was. Any guesses?

1 Abrams VS 1 Abrams - who wuold win, /K?
>>34845174
Whichever had the better crew
>>34845174
A good thread died for this
there is so much violence in the world today /k/ I think we should have a thread to discuss the not so lethal ways of fighting, remember if you kill your enemies, they win]
what is /K/s favorite less than/non lethal weapon?
I personally like the the neoprene claymore for maximum indiscriminate discomfort
>>34845116
Technically it can be manufactured into a non-lethal weapon.

Those taser shotgun shells are pretty neat

>stinging tree cunt
I'm not sure it counts as non-lethal if it makes you wish you were dead, anon
What game in your opinion does the best job at balancing realism and fun /k/?

Project Reality muh nigga
>SAK NAM
The original Operation Flashpoint
Would you have, /k/?
>I know Tigr anon is here somewhere
>>34844933
it says it sold for $23k though
>>34844933
I never understood why /k/ has such a hardon for the SVD
Its a nice rifle but I personally wouldn't pay more than 2k for this, I would rather want a Benelli M4 than this gun desu
>unpopular opinion
>>34844959
It's rare. Literally any inertia-operated autoloader will give you the same experience as the M4, but how many semi-auto rifles are there in the US that can shoot 7.62x54mmR?
Have you ever heard about Luty's Homemade Firearms?
>britbong protests bong government to prove that banning guns is stupid
>makes a 9mm uzi 1200 rpm in his home from stainless steel sheets, pipes and bolts and nuts
>publishes an instructional book on how to make it
>book is completely legal for everyone to buy and download from Lib Gen because of freedom of speech and information
>they catch Luty with one of his prototypes when he was out to test it
>goes to jail
>britbongs now have guns based on Luty's design in the hands of criminals all over the UK.

Why are governments so stupid in trying to ban guns?
>living in bong land

feelsgood to be American
>>34844927
Not for long if you keep getting guns banned from cities.
Have you seen Cali Legal AR?
I say it's time to kill some democrats.

What are some weapons that are good for someone that is paralyzed from the waist down?
So far I've got guns, possibly a crossbow, and a one handed spear.

BBBBBBBBBRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
I smell meat burning

Hmmm, maybe some mag loaded blank firing 12 gauge for extra propulsion
>crossbow
You need to use your entire body to cock a crossbow you spaz.
Operators, from the 60s up to the 90s. VBSS kit is sexy as fuck.
>HA HA TIME TO BE THE POINTMAN!
>>34844707
What model m16 is man #4 holding? The flight suit aesthetic says 90s. Also is pointman carrying a fucking axe?
If you were getting a combat shotgun would you rather get a pump or a semi-auto?
Assume you will be out in the field and the gun will get dirty and you won't always have a chance to perfectly break it down.
>>34844703
>Pump shotgun
>Ithaca 37 Riot.
Because i can outrun the bolt on quite a few semi-automatics. its also more reliable.
>you wont always have a chance to perfectly break it down.
believe it or not, you have alot of chances to do that.
although if i were to get a semi-automatic for combat it might be the Beretta nova. Super smooth and light. The only shotgun i have been comfortable enough to shoot why bracing it on my chin.
However in all honesty, i would prefer the A5 for a real combat Semi-Auto scatter gat.
>>34844703
>Benelli M3
Why choose when you can have both?
>>34844703
Id go with pump but that's because I'm use to them. Also I suspect reliability depends on the operator. (I've never owned or fired a semi auto shotgun but I have used quite a few pump actions)
Prototypes, unfinished projects, failed experiments, and uncommonly used are all welcome.
Starting with the Convair XFY-1 Pogo
Vought V-173 "Flying Pancake"
This fucking thing.
Gyrojet rocket pistol
Hey /k/ I know you're mostly gunfags but I made something out of some scrap steel I thought you might appreciate. Homemade weapons general?
No thanks
>>34844125
OP should try mixing bleach and ammonia in a small, tightly sealed room.
>>34844554
do it give good buzz?
In light of the events today, what company sells a good, NJ legal, forged receiver FAL? Or am I stuck buying an AR?
By NJ legal I mean it can't have the letters "FAL" or "SLR" in a row on the receiver. Other than that you just can't have a flash hider
Get something like the fagpac and call it a day
>>34843678
Why would you want to buy some shitty frankenFAL when you can buy a decent AR-10 type rifle for +/- $1000?
>>34843712
They should find a way to make that seven dollars more expensive so it can be 1337
Due to the recent riots, and escalating race tensions, I am looking to buy my first handgun. I've been putting it off until now. I want a small, concealable pistol that still packs a lot of punch. I want something relatively easy to clean and maintain because I'm a noob. What should I get? I'm not a TOTAL noob. I like shooting, and I'm a pretty good shot, but I usually just rent a gun when I go to the range, and I think it's about time I buy one for myself. Any recommendations?
>>34843656
I just got a RIA M1911 GI in .45 as my first gun. I love it but the ammo is pricey for me
Edit: I also want something relatively cheap, but no foreign shit. I want an affordable, American-made handgun.
>>34843656
I wouldnt worry about trying to conceal. Get a full sized handgun.
