MARAUDER
>The MARAUDER (magnetically accelerated rings to achieve ultrahigh directed energy and radiation) program at the Air Force Weapons Laboratory is a study of magnetically-confined plasma toroids that will convert stored electrostatic energy into plasma kinetic energy. This energy may then be converted into other forms such as radiation. Using the 9.4 MJ SHIVA STAR fast capacitor bank to accelerate the toroids, the authors expect to achieve kinetic energies greater than 1 MJ. The first phase of the experimentation only forms the toroids and does not attempt to compress and accelerate them. This paper presents MHD calculations that have been performed with the 2-1/2 dimensional code, MACH22 in support of this phase. The simulations demonstrate the formation of the torus including reconnection of the poloidal magnetic field components. Number densities in the toroids are on the order of 1016 per cm3, and magnetic induction is on the order of 1 Tesla. A series of calculations shows that only a limited range of discharge energy will produce toroids. Too little energy will not push the plasma through the initial, injected poloidal field; too much will not allow a good reconnection. These results are compared with experimental measurements

>>34852158
But the chinese version is a single-shot bolt action. Fucking why. At least the Daewoo K11 has a magazine. If they were going for single shot they could have made the launcher substantially smaller like an M203 or their own QLG-10 (GP-25 clone). Just put the scope and airburst ammo on this. Bam done.

>The Thunderjet was so loud that it could be easily heard about 35 kilometres away. On one occasion, they powered up the engines of the XF-84H on a runway, while what they thought was an empty C-47 transport plane was parked on a nearby runway. This C-47 was side-on to the propeller of the XF-84H, where the noise was loudest. When they shut down the engine, they heard banging noises from the C-47. An engineer had been doing maintenance inside, and the incredibly loud banshee-like noise had thrown him into an epileptic fit. The banging noise was the flailing of his limbs. And yes, he did recover after a few days.

What's the deal with China's 5.8mm rifle cartridge?
Because 5.56, 5.45, and 7.62x39mm arent good enough?
>>34855480
lol it's so the corrupt military leaders can't sell all of the ammo to Africa because China won't export 5.8 weapons to anybody.
>>34855035
The mistake was not redesigning it to make the noise a design feature. They should have given it inline counter-rotating props like the Bear while maintaining the super sonic prop speed. Then reinforce the cockpit with sound reflectors and dampening material.
Imagine broadly spaced formations buzzing Soviet tank columns headed for the Fulda gap. Thousands of men simultaneously shit themselves as they fall to the ground convulsing. Tanks and BMPs crash into each other, their crews reduced to sacks of jelly. Migs attempt to intercept, but their pilots can't get into gun range without going in seizures and the missile fuzes are pre-detonated by the shockwaves shed from the mighty Thunderscreech's heavily reinforced fuselage.
>>34855480
Pretty much, they're trying to be independent. I'm surprised they didn't go with 5.45 considering China copies many designs from Russia.
