So in this movie Black Sea. They're in a soviet submarine and the thing is flooding. Two survivors are sent out in escape suits, out the torpedo tubes. The final survivor is supposedly trapped because no one can lock the interior tube door, flood his tube, and open the exterior tube door. So he puts some Soviet Gold bars in the last escape suit and shoots it out for the survivors to have. While he sits and waits for the submarine to finish flooding and kill him.

Couldn't he have just put on the escape suit. Left the interior tube door open. Let the torpedo room flood. Then open the exterior door and swim out?

never mind that gold is heavy as fuck and would sink
>>
>>31847038
No.
If you leave a torpedo tube open to the sea, you have 7 seconds before the entire forward compartment is full of water. Then you nose down and mud dart to the bottom at crazy fast speeds. (I think they said the scorpion impacted at 100+ knots)
Theres simply no way to swim against all that water, or to gtfo once its equalized because by that time youre fucked by pressure.
>>
>>31847108
sub was already on the bottom and was flooding from the rear compartments to the front.

could he have left the interior tube hatch open. flooded the torpedo room to equalize pressure. then opened the exterior tube door and escaped?

>>31847074
escape suits inflate to make you bouant and force you to the surface in a hurry. so you could put 70 kilos of gold in the suit and have it still float to the surface.

I want to get a 9mm handgun for home defense / everyday carry. I've shot my friend's M&P shield a couple times and it was okay, but didn't feel right.

What does /k/ recommend? I was thinking about getting pic related or a Glock 19.

Ruger American instead of SR9e if you want one of their striker nines.

I personally can't stand Glocks and prefer DA/SA so I'd say a Beretta 92fs, CZ-75, EAA Witness, or Jericho 941.
>>
>>31846982

Though I didn't fire it, I held the Beretta 92fs and hated the way it felt, plus the safety bothered me on that one.

I was also considering the S&W SD9VE, but that gun feels like a cheap toy.
>>
>>31847039
S&W SD9VE is basically a poorfag M&P, which, considering the price of an M&P, is really saying something.

Between the Ruger SR9 and the Glock 19, Glock 19 hands-down. Maybe try the M&P 9 as well so you can see if the wider grip alleviates the issues you had with the Shield.

If you still want a few more options, look at the CZ-75 and the FN USA FNX (hammer-fired) or FNS (striker-fired).

I've started to recognize the advantage of a double action striker fire polymer pistol, but I just don't really like glocks. They are uncomfortable for me. I do not enjoy shooting them either. Yes I could "learn" to shoot them well but i'd rather have something that I like shooting off the bat.

In terms of reliability are the new FN pistols reliable alternatives? Not gonna lie the main reason I have my eye on them is that they are sexy as fuck. They have a bit of that turn of the century FN look to them that I like so much.

IF not what are some good alternatives to glocks.

FN handguns are excellent and affordably priced. Yes they are reliable. But no you shouldn't buy an FNS right now because they will be announcing their new revised model at the beginning of next year's SHOT Show.

The only thing I could say about yours is to upgrade your pistol grip, I don't see how anyone is comfortable with those tiny and slick grips.

I kinda like the idea of the more vertically angled ones like in the picture, but I've yet to give them a try .

do me

So while in the market for an outside pack carry knife for by bob, I came across the gerber strongarm. Nice carry details, liked the coyote tan but I do all my gear queering in olive drab. So, after looking for any similar fixed blade in OD I decided to do a stupid /k/ustomisation, because I'm a total autist and like a unifotm flat color scheme. I would paint the knife and sheath olive drab.

Knife arrives by mail soon, in the mean time I trolled the local wally world and grabbed a can of 'deep forest green' by Rustoleum, I'll be testing the color on some cardboard at first light and if it's too dark I'll grab the lighter sage green they have.

I'm posting for two questions.
First, how well will plastic bonding paint bond to a rubberized grip like the strong arm has?
Second, am I blocking off any soft material on the sheath andleaving it black or should I do the fudd thing and just spray it all down?

From what I understand, the badge qualification test is done army wide. In the video there is a soldier who forgets to put an M9 on safe before disassembling it. Isn't this drilled into their head in training?

Also, do the any of the other services do anything similar to the army's EIB?

well my squadrons 4 mortar platoons kinda just went out back to the barracks for a few days to basically take off work and avoid a bunch of bullshit everyone else was doing in the motorpool that week

that's all they did for all their EIBs, but then again i don't think anyone really takes 11Cs in an armor unit seriously

When in doubt, AR15 and/or Mossberg 590. So much aftermarket that even if it doesn't come from the factory exactly how you want it, a google search, a credit card, and two to 6 weeks later, it will be exactly what you wanted.

why aren't plebs just buying flare guns for self defense? I mean it's a "12 gauge" burning projectile that could potential cause some damage, and if I were a bad guy i'd sure as shit turn tail and run as a big plastic hard hitting nerf gun was pointed at my head.

Size of a real gun, flares only ignite after 50 or so meters, one shot.

I'm was bored so I started watching this "documentary" on YouTube about naval battles in the pacific, and right now in this video, multiple Japanese heavy cruisers and battleships are getting rekted by American patrol boats. It's like they're not even trying to win. They just keep missing over and over ahead whereas the American ships always hit every time. How is this possible? It seems extremely unrealistic in my opinion.

you don't understand shit about fire control systems, do you fag? Japs had manual aim, 'murrica had radar assisted. jap system was a shitton slower, not even counting continuous automatic fire that murrican cruisers had later on.
>>
>>31846241

Japan prided itself on optical ragefinding and gunnery.

IIRC the Pagoda architecture was to increase the vantage points for optical range finding, both mechanical and MK I eyeball.

Because of this, and other things like resources, the IJN never got as far into radar-guided rangefinding and gunnery as the US did. They did have search and rangefinding radar, but still relied on feeding those into their computers manually instead of letting the radar do it automatically.

Hell the IJN used their eyeballs for night fighting before radar-equipped USN ships literally blew them out of the water.
