It's nothing special. It still has poor ergonomy, working the bolt is hard compared to modern bolt actions, the trigger sucks and reloading with stripper clips can get sticky.

Safety is key here- if you fuck that up he'll never want to take you shooting again, best case, or someone could get seriously injured or killed, worst case. Not trying to scare you but i cant stress this enough. Look up the 4 rules of firearm safety and actually follow them.

As far as recoil management goes, if nothing else id just let him shoot them first before you do so you can see how it looks. Dont be scared of the gun, take control of it and understand it is a tool that can be managed.
