dont think in terms of "character in a pose"

think in terms of "composition", and place that character within it


your drawing is extremely flat, i'd imagine any background would fail to add depth, no matter how well drawn

you have to imagine the whole scene first

and draw accordingly

in such a dynamic composition, the background almost doesnt even matter and you can blur that shit out!

Ref threads are often pretty good, occasional tutorial threads, the book thread has been excellent. I got some decent answers from the QTDDTOT threads. I found some good blogs / got some followers from the self promo threads.

In terms of critique, no. I rarely got any when I posted my work, when I did a majority of it was very vague and not particularly useful.

To a certain point, then the usual trolls started to shitpost every time I posted something (turns out my shit is more recognizable than I thought) and now I only come here for the resources and some few threads, I feel I have become better at recognizing and fixing my own mistakes now that I don't post my wips here

Googling "drawing challenge" will usually get you some good prompts.

Artprompts.org is like 90% terrible prompts but feel free to try that.

Just go browse photos and other art for inspiration. You might see something - a colour scheme, a feeling or subject that you want to draw.
Or a challenge I used to do was to scroll through tumblr or twitter or something (I follow a lot of photography) and draw sth based on every photography post I came across.

This is not necessary in art since even the height of the camera is arbitrary, but the answer to your question is that it is absolutely related to reality.

I measure the exact size of the house, my height, how much meters above the sea we were located, the distance between me and the house, the the exact point of view where the camera focus to take the picture and I give you the measures only.

Without looking to the foto, are you able to reproduce the exact same perspective of the picture with 2 or 3 point perspective?

i hope you were paying attention in geometry/precal cause the answer to your question is literally trigonometry

not that you need to be exact and perfect, but knowing the rough ratios of a few key measurements should be enough for you to guestimate most things from there

my biggest improvements were when i got a tablet and didn't have to worry about materials.

when i first got it, it felt like drawing with my left hand, completely screwed my eye/hand coordination, but i got used to it in 2 weeks or so, maybe even a few days if you're more productive. just keep on using it, it'll come naturally.

I don't know who tetsu is.

My situation is pretty similar to yours. Used to have artsy friends now i don't really.

I made two good friends when I briefly went to art school but we had different majors so we don't overlap in interests very much.

I'd love to have new artist friends but a lot of artists kinda only give a fuck about themselves. I've been used as "free publicity" so to speak (i.e. just a friend to reblog shit or whatever) too many times to want to give a fuck about making friends again.

Also I've only been to community college and didn't have a chance to make friends in the art classes I took so I never had any irl friends who were into art.

Tetsu is a artist who recently died cause he was socially awkward af and just cause his girlfriend didnt want to put up with his obsessiveness and wanted to focus on her art primarily he off'd himself.

But honestly having friends who are into art is so nice. I tried joining the discords before but i dono i feel like my personality is way diff than most people on /ic/.

had 1-2 one classmate and one underclassman, first one drew furry things the other person drew cartoon mostly which i liked since it leaned towards anime sometimes. Haven't met any artist since. I only hope to befriend an anime artist someday.
