>>

>>
>>2999301
it's sucks but don't give up is only another test for you career.
>>
>>2999301
How much was it?
>>
>>2999301
I knew of some woman that gambled her husbands Money and then has him killed to pay her debts with the life insurance and kept in gambling with the rest and the Money she got from selling his business. People can be so addicted to that.
>>
>family is thieving vermin
>leave cash/valuables sitting around
I've seen this meme a lot and I don't understand it
my parents would never take my shit and I still squirrel it away in hidden compartments
>>
>>2999333
1000$
>>
>>2999346
800$ for the tuition fee
1000$ for thecomputer
>>
>>2999347

Why did you
A) leave nearly 2 grand just lying around
B) Let your gambling addict mom have your banking information

Also if you're living at home it shouldn't take 2 years to save 2 grand.
>>
>my art career ruined

Wrong.

You'll survive, just don't ever leave money where she can find it ever again.

>>2999335
I know a person like that too, he comes into the place I work and treats me like his therapist (sometimes several times a day; a real pain in my ass), he confessed to me that he's lost at least $20,000 in casinos throughout the state we live in. What a ludicrous "hobby", even though he's annoying as hell I can't help but feel sorry for him.

>>2999346
>>2999347

That's not so bad-unless you live in the Balkans or Philippines or something I suppose; was that all money from $10 commissions or something like that? If you're in the U.S. you can make that kind of money over the course of a couple months at just about any normal job-assuming your mom is footing the rest of the bills (which must be the case considering this scenario, correct?)

I've gone through financial setbacks myself. Whether it was big loans to friends never paid back ($7,000-six years or so later and that still hurts. Was about a years' worth of my disposable income, then), foolish purchases in general or more recently 'gofundme' unfortunately (one friend's mom shattered her leg in a fall and another has leukemia). Don't worry too much about money itself because it's not going to make or break you or any of us-at least not in art. While you will want to upgrade your equipment as soon as possible judging from your photo, whether you get good or not has nothing to do with what's in your bank account.

You have your whole life ahead of you, don't let a setback like this stop you from pursuing your dream-we all go through them at one time or another. Also, try not to hate your mom, she obviously needs psychological help.

Damn.

that's an expensive chair
>>
>>2999347
That's really not a lot of money. You'll be fine. If you are willing to let that stop you, you may as well kill yourself. Pathetic.

thanks m8, i grateful for the advice

This is what happens when you don't read the sticky
>>
>>2999375
Sometimes it's okay to hate your parents. They'd have to be real huge pieces of shit that sabotage you at every opportunity and would literally have to be Hitler or something.
My point is, moms and dads can actually be worth hating sometimes.
But don't dwell on it and be consumed by it. Just move on.
>>
>>2999301
my mom gambled away at least 500k+ over the past 7 or 8 years. we pretty much went from middle class to poverty tier. im stuck with her in a cockroach infested apartment living paycheck to paycheck and she tells me its none of my business because it wasnt my money.
>>
>>2999461
Goddamn! Call me cold hearted, but if I were you I'd just abandon that ship and fend for myself. Obviously that person doesn't care enough about your life and wellbeing. What's the point of staying around such a toxic environment?
>>
>>2999403
this
>we all can agree there are stupid ppl in this world
>and we all know most ppl sooner or later become parents
just using logic you can conclude some parents are bad parents. Don't take everything they say for granted and as truth, or you will regret later on. Doubt your parents.

Speaking from my own experience sadly.
>>
>>2999301
my parents bought me a house and car and paid for my college
I inherited 100k when my grandpappy died
my mom has 2 million in the bank and two properties worth 700k each that will go to my sister and I when mom dies
I'm a loser NEET that still sucks at art.
You need more than money and school to git gud. I'd move out if I were you. Forget school. Art school in particular is a retarded idea. Get whatever job you can, get on welfare if you have to, save for a computer and intuos or whatever. Draw whenever you aren't working and think about what you are drawing, don't do it mindlessly. You don't have time or luxury to fuck around.
>>
>>2999552
>rich people giving financial advice to poor people
>rich people telling poor people that money doesn't really matter anyway
fun for the whole family

i really wish i could leave her, but im pretty much an underemployed wagecuck thats not gonna make it anytime soon. she sort of cares for my wellbeing, as far as being a mother goes, i suppose, but her absolute retardation in handling money has pretty much overshadowed every single one of her positive points. i really hope i can make it one day bros.
>>
>>2999579
Does Truck driving sound good to you? Many companies will pay for your training and they'll pay for transportation to get to their school. All you need is a driver's license, and they'll teach you. My mom used to drive, and her boyfriend drives right now. He makes about $7,000-$10,000 a month. This will give you a chance to not only leave right away, but you can get a job anywhere.

The military is another good option, but not as quick.
>>
>>2999583
Also the most valuable thing about art school are the connections you make. My teacher would tell us that best thing you can do in art is just show up. So find out what events a university/college near you are holding, and also go to local art events. Interact with people online and share your art. Practice on your own time and make those connections!.
>>
>>2999461
And I thought my parents were bad with handling money. But with them their fault is more being too nice and letting their siblings 'borrow' way too much from them.
>>
>>2999569
>good artists giving art advice to beginners
>good artists telling beginners that talent doesn't really matter
>>
>>2999576
Not that anon, but children of rich parents who don't at all live up to the success of their parents aren't rare. For one, it's hard to feel an urgency and build up competency when every need is taken care of for you.

Being born into a wealthy and intelligent family can be a curse if the child doesn't grow up to be at least equally successful. It can hang over them their entire lives (especially for men), since it's in human nature to compare with what's around and close rather than from the large view.
>>
>>2999600
The diference is that noboby is born a good artist, while the rich anon above did shit to get rich.
>>
>>2999604
Luckily my sister also went after various artsy fartsy interests instead of going the more normal and well-worn routes of the family. We both bombed out so far, so I have some company. Extended family get togethers are excruciating though.

I don't wish I was poor. For sure. Glad to be comfortable. But when I hear Brad Rigney or Dave Rapoza talk about their prior situation in life it kind of makes sense that they succeeded. They had no choice. Maybe OP can find some inspiration there. Dave Rapoza also has talked about his crazy mom and her fuckery.
>>
>>2999604
I'd rather be rich and depressed than poor and depressed. At least I would have more money to spend to better myself.
>>
>>2999610
somebody born with good artists in their families pick up fast on things, somebody who doesn't has to reinvent the wheel at every step or go to an (good) art school

notice how having good ppl at something around you makes you good at that something?

being born in a family with money is not a quality itself, but having around you ppl which know how to manage their moeny is
>>
>>2999616
Dave Rapoza's platonic life partner Dan talked about how he was born into a relatively wealthy family in a twitch stream (well, it might be 'wealthy' just in comparison for the area they both lived in) but he turned out to be someone capable of climbing up the freelancing ladder before they both settled on their comic gig.
>>
>>2999610
True. My mom did the work. She grew up poor. Like, picking cotton and tobacco and working in factories level poor. She worked hard and played the game to get out of her situation so her children could do whatever they wanted. Her children chose to be failed artists. lol. Insert Brendan Fraser.jpg
>>
>>2999626
What type of art did you try and get into?
>>
>>2999622
I suppose so, but in a way it's easier to just let yourself sink and revel in your own depression if you have the money to fund a lifestyle of pure leisure. Being poor also means having something dragging you back into the sunlight of the outside working world.

Of course poverty is one of the most miserable traps unless you're practically a Bodhisattva, but sometimes having a lot of extra money is just an enabler of one's worst habits.
>>
>>2999626
Maybe it's time to go back to university for a more practical degree then, anon, if you aren't already back in school.
>>
>>2999632
>but sometimes having a lot of extra money is just an enabler of one's worst habits.
Is that why so many rich people are secretly batshit crazy?
>>
>>2999583
No way a truck driver can be earning $120k a year. You must be bullshitting me
>>
>>2999636
Well, psychopaths can be pretty exceptional at playing the game of making money if they're motivated do so.
>>
>>2999639
No bullshitting. You aren't going to make that much right out the gate. More like $40,000-$50,000. But the bonuses can add up, and if you own your own truck, you can clear 6 figures without much work.

Truck driving is a nice career that people look down on. If you can learn how to operate the truck, drive for long hours, and don't mind traveling a lot, then truck driving can be a nice career.
>>
>>2999639
It potentially pays out that much because truck driving requires a lot of hours away from home and family on the road, which doesn't agree with that many people.
>>
Tesla and other companies are trying to replace truck drivers though.
>>
>>2999651
They will in about a decade or less, but it's not a job that requires a ton of time investment to get started with.

After driving jobs get cut down (and driving jobs are one of the biggest jobs for men in the U.S. in sheer numbers) because of improving tech, I predict a lot more drug addiction and even higher suicide rates in the more rural areas of the country.
>>
>>2999461
I sort of know this feel. My parents decided to blow all their money on building a literal mansion and it ruined us. We went from above average wealth (well, for my parents anyway. They drank and did drugs every day while I had to wear my school uniform jumper over my shirt in the heat of summer as there was a huge rip in the shirt armpit) to absolute poverty. As in no hot water, rats/mice everywhere, the smell of sewage lingering in the house.
This was during the recession. My dad decided, after taking out 3 mortgages for a house, that he didn't feel like working anymore. Instead he spent all the money we did have traveling, and when that ran out he went to my grandmother, claimed he needed money for my college education, then spent that on going on holidays with his friends.
In the meantime I was accepted in to college, but he didn't want to admit he couldn't afford it as he had blown all the money already, so instead of simply talking to me about it, he started screaming at me and putting me down. He claimed my grades weren't good enough and that I had to repeat my final year of school because he wasn't satisfied. That fucker literally wasted a year of my life because of his selfish behavior.
During this year he decided to pack up and move abroad so he could pursue his ambitions of singing in bars and being live entertainment. So he left us with absolutely nothing, just my mother who had never worked a day in her life and was basically unemployable for this reason, all while she had a breakdown and me and my siblings had to deal with it. We had nothing.

I did reapply for college but after working 3 jobs to survive I couldn't keep up with the work anymore. I worked for 2 years and basically didn't draw during that time because I was totally burned out from art, as well as exhausted from work.
I'm working on art again now and thankfully I somehow retained a lot of my audience from back in the day as I was semi popular.
>>
>>2999629
concept art. I don't know if I even want to do that anymore. Most of the stuff in gaming and movies looks like shit to me now. So I've been shifting towards illustration, trying to get together a portfolio for MtG. But designing things is still what gets me most excited. Developing my own IPs like Dave Rapoza and Dan Warren or Peter Mohrbacher is the dream I guess. But I feel like I have to prove myself by doing some jobs for companies for a while.

Honestly I am probably more than good enough to get work I am just a fucking retard and have crippling self-doubt and a manic work ethic. I'll work hard for a while and be excited about my work, then I'll be a lazy piece of shit and think everything I do is garbage and want to just go flip burgers or kill myself.
>>
>>2999657
Damn anon, good luck to you, you deserve it.
>>
>>2999657
>My parents decided to blow all their money on building a literal mansion
Was it at least a good looking mansion? Or was it one of those cheap McMansion kind of houses
>>
>>2999660
Thanks, I appreciate it. I really want to work hard and make it now.

>>2999663
I guess it was nice (well when it wasn't run down...)? It was definitely a mcmansion though. The banks are finally repossessing it this year. What a waste of time.
