Painting from stills is a pretty good way to learn, especially if you don't use the color picker.

But turning them into furries is, to somebody who don't know about furries, funny. But to a normal person who do know about them however it is creepy as fuck.

They are drawing very simple faces they've drawn a million times before and even then, Kishimoto used guidelines. When you have drawn the same character from the exact same angle over hundreds of manga chapters, you probably have that on autopilot.

you need to get a stronger drawing going. Really try to sell your focal points, in this case the hands especially. Hard to say anything beyond that when you say it's still a WIP, so who knows how far you can push it when you're done.

It's not much of a redesign really. Other than earbuds and a hipster beard you bring nothing new to the table. If you're going for hipster you need to push it, a good character design tells the viewer things about the character.

step one: be actually somewhat decent at drawing

Popularity is fleeting as fuck. Careful if you unironically want to draw this stuff for attention, because:

A. They're going to give no fucks about what else you have to offer if you're riding only on fanart, and possibly leave when you're not offering what they specifically came for often enough.

B. You're going to be too caught up in social validation and attention whoring to be passionate about you work, effectively shooting your wellbeing and maximum potential quality in the foot.
