Couple questions:
1.) Do you have career aspirations or are you just drawing as a hobby?
2.) Do you study art theory and history alongside your technical study?

1. I had but after 5 years of not landing a single job those aspirations are more or less dead. Im looking for a 9 to 5 job now.
2. Studying art history is useless. No employer is gonna be impressed that you know that. All that will find you jobs is your work. Art theory is a vague term. It can mean alot of things wich also include the "Technical side" of studying. Color theory , Composition design etc.

>I couldnt get a job after trying for 5 years
>so here's my advice on how to get a job

Just because I didn't get a job doesn't mean my statement isn't completely factual and valid.
Do prove me wrong though.
So there's this guy I met in passing that thinks hes pretty good at art but in reality he's pretty bad. He would also ignore art advice for some unknown retarded reason.
What do you guys think about his art?
personally the first thing that draws my attention is his terrible coloring. flat and pale.
Everything is wrong with this. The coloring is really flat and the anatomy is...way off...
I dunno, I see where he needs to improve, but it isn't THAT bad.
Man's right eye is tippy toeing off of his head.
Is it offensive to ask another artist for permission to reproduce their painting?
I found an amazing marine painting and thought it was some renaissance artist's, so I wanted to make a small study from it and if it comes out okay, give it to my dad for Xmas. It turns out though the artist is modern and has got a website and gallery online. I thought about e-mailing him for permission, but would it be rude to ask if I can basically copy his painting instead of buying a print or something?
Its for a study . . . I think they'd be flattered but mostly I just wouldn't bother if the painting isnt being reproduced for commercial purposes or being broadcast in any form. I
why even bother to ask? it's not like the artist is ever going to know some noob painted a copy of his work and gave it to their dad.
literally nobody cares.

I thought I would be flattered too if it was me, but not all people are the same.
I definitely won't be reselling it, but I'd like to publish it online on my portfolio with credits to the original painter. So I guess he doesn't risk too much and maybe gets some customers thanks to the credits (his paintings are truly awesome). I don't want to risk copyright infringement though, and spare him any stress like he finds my study somewhere out of blue. Should I just ask if he's okay with online publication + credits?
I can only draw decent looking forms if I chicken scratch, it's even worse when I try to use a tablet.
How do we break this terrible habit?

start drawing in pen. it'll force you to make your lines count if you dont want it to look bad, also understanding what your drawing helps you do it in less tries.
it may not be for everyone but check out peter han's dynamic sketching.
Create a light under-drawing so you're confident when you're doing your actual lines.
As long as you're going really light a little bit of chicken scratching in the lay in isn't a huge deal.
The more you understand the forms and the better your control of your pencil the more confident you'll be with lines, too.

your magic pill does not exist dude, you have to practice, feel it and over time mileage and confidence will make it easy..but you know this, don't you?..yeah you do even if you pretend you don't, because somewhere inside the deepest clouds of your mind you know you're afraid just like all of us once were.
Okay so I'm making this pin up girl and everything is going well nicely IMO but I'm having such a hard time getting facial anatomy correct can anyone help me on face shape, eye, nose, mouth position?

Hey guys i need your help here. I need to make some unit cards for a mod (modding a total war game) the thing is that they must look kind of medieval (doesn't need to be perfect but it must look the part) do you have any advice/tutorial/ideas or anything to improve this? Thank you for your time
btw: in game the card would look a lot smaller
Edit: Actual in-game size
I cant think of a tutorial, but I will say that looks quite nice as something medieval inspired, though I feel like the white texture overtop is slightly excessive.
I'll post a couple of the medieval-style stuff I've saved though.
What does /ic/ think of mobble and young tumblr artists in general? Personally I think her art used to be super diverse but now its fallen flat and very typical "Calarts" like. She still has something good once in while but it's changed a lot, the current art is so bland. Other young tumblr artists jump on the Calarts style bandwagon also, it's pissing me off.
I don't give a fuck, I mind my own business.

Her art can be derivative at times but in general she is a pretty good artist with some interesting color choices

What are some good books or videos on how to draw in Orthodox iconography style? Eastern or Oriental (pictured).
Bump
I guess just symbol draw really much and paint flat pictures.
okay so while I dont really have any resources, I spent some time drawing Icons with some guy who is icon-artist from Ukraine, so I could tell you what I've learnt. Icons are repetitive, you just draw the same concepts all over the time. You can decide about few things like colour of background, but, some must stay the same (Jesus robes must be blue and red on a specific drawing and there's no way you could do it otherwise. it must be that way). So they are very schematic. If you want to do competely new icon you must have enormous knowledge about it. Also, what I found very nice, is that every icon is equally important - it doesnt matter if a kid did it or wold famous artist- it is still portrait of god, so it is equally sainty (?) (my english is horrible). So at example icon I did has nimb made of real gold,
i know you're not going to do a religious art probably, but I think it could give an idea what is it about, if you didnt know it yet. So my tip would be - find some famous icons and try to redraw them to get its specific style (it is heavenly style of ultimate beauty, you know, people depicted on icons are more beautiful than as earthlings, so that is why they are not in realistic style) and then try to draw something on your own. If you have some other questions like how long does it take, what paint would you need and so you can ask, but you're probably going to do it digitally,so i am just rambling. good luck anon <:
If I actually pursue my dreams and try to succeed in the world as an artist, whats the likelihood ill turn into a bitter ass like a third of this board?
Let me punch it into my bitter ass likelihood calculator, you cunt.
>>2319818
Alrighty, I'll be here.
>>2319815
people on this board don't succeed BECAUSE they're bitter asses, not the other way around. Protip: dont become a bitter ass
Made this shit for a art trade with a FB friend. Idk anything about "Undertale" or something, can you guys tell me if this is acceptable or not?
I don't know much about Undertale either, however I can tell you that this artwork is by no means acceptable whatsoever. Jesus fuck it's awful. Hiding the thread now so I'll never have to look at this ever again.
I think I'd swallow a pigeon whole to be as decent as that, so I must suck dick.
It's pretty bad and bad in a way that /ic/ loves to shit on, so expect that.
I forget the name of the filter you threw on it but it literally hurts my eyes and it's a bad crutch for making things look three dimensional. If you're going to use it, use it sparingly. When it's enough that it makes your image physically hard to look at, you need to cut it out.
The head looks pretty big even by anime standards.
If your friend is a weeb/undertale fan/normie I'm sure he/she will love it, though.
