Ironlak sponsor "sofles"

"Sofles" is one of the most famous graffiti writers in the world right now.

Want to know a few things about "sofles"

He went to a private school called "Brisbane boys collage" this is one of the most expensive private schools in Brisbane city.

He grew up in an upper class inner city suburb called "Paddington" which is expensive real estate.

Sofles dad is an engineer who makes a lot of money.

He basically grew up as a highly privileged rich private school kid from a good home.

Yet for some reason you still hear retards going "I do graffiti cause I from the slums bro"

Graffiti is not ghetto anymore... as evident by one of the most famous graffiti writers in the world coming from an upper class background

the whole polticial connotations associated with anything that may be deemed "graphic design:

which encompases TAgging, burners, murals, and general vandalism
to the more corporate art of advertising billboards, and store front signs
to political ad campaign ads
to federally mandated traffic signes and signals.

what art generally presented in the public commons always has some sort of political significance to it.

graffitti typicall is the wild expression of the individuals, where he donns a nickname and creates a hyper-stylized logomorph to advertise his persona.

This individualism is seen as illegal as it defaces public and/or private property. Becuase it is seen as an eyesore, something that breaks the pattern of your horizon. And also this graffitti all seems to attract other acts of social discontent- gangs, drugs, shottings, other tags, vagrancy, homelessness, and other "broken windows".

It is an "art form" , that all levels of skill are attracted to do.

But it is more /gd/ than /ic/ honestly.

Do you recommend putting your name or initials on your work? I never do it. I don't like cluttering any of my pictures with my full name and I don't see the reason why put would put their initials on digital work, there's no way to reverse search an image using just initials.

Does not signing your work hamper you in the long run or it doesn't really matter?

Pic is not mine, just using it as an example of initials on work.

Anyone else have a backlog of unopened/unplayed games due to focusing on art? They constantly taunt me, but they're also a badge of honor and proof to myself that I'm dedicated to getting better.

I was in the exact same situation as you op. I only put like 14 hours into xenoblade x before dropping it to work on art. However I bought a PS4, MGSV, and FF type 0 last week and I can't stop playing MGSV. Its one of the best games I've ever played. I really want to work on my art but MGS too good.

I actually try to play games during breaks in drawing, but I get an overwhelming feeling of guilt and dread. I just don't want to be another person who fails at art and has to work for some corporation like everyone else. I'd kill myself if that was my fate.

I don't know what are lingaments but finding my passion matters too.

I'm only telling you all this because I want to help you like I'm trying to help myself. I've come here as a fellow struggling artist who wants us all to succeed.

The videos I'm gonna give you (in order of how I think you ought to watch them) are for all of you, any of you struggling, the advice I'm gonna give is for us all. Stop the projections, stop the self-hate, stop being so self-critical you cripple yourself, stop the expectations, stop nitpicking artists (you may have legitimate complains but it's a waste of time and you know it, they won't change for you). Your attitude has been the issue. Put down the competitive game, put down the distractions because you're too afraid to work on your art, hell put down /ic/, put down social media sites. You have the resources, you've had the resources. There's Drawabox, Brainstorm, Vilppu, Hampton, Loomis, Bridgman, Alla Prima, you've got the gesture sites, you've got still life. You can get the Concentrate app to block sites for X hours, you can get Habitica to use a scheduler and make it feel like an RPG. It starts today, it starts now. Pick up the stylus, pick up the brush, pick up the pencil, pick up the pen, pick up your tool and DRAW and FAIL and learn to love the frustration and learning process. No more excuses. Watch those vids, setup a plan of attack and GO AND DRAW AND START YOUR JOURNEY UP THE MOUNTAIN.

What can ruin your career as an artist?

I've been involved in some "community" drama where I post my stuff. I popped off to some people starting shit with me and basically if anyone was so inclined they could find this dirt and make "callout" posts about me on social media.

How fucked am I? Do people stop caring eventually? This was last year but I did overhear people still gossiping about me, even telling fans to "avoid me at all costs".

People will make shit up if there isn't anything real out there so who the fuck cares.

Apparently in college I use to pimp out my GF for gas money or some shit. Or apparently I am obsessed with a certain bitch of a girl and all my paintings are of her. Also, my ex is trying to tell everyone I trick girls into liking me by telling depressing stories about my life so I can use them.

These are actual rumors about me. Started by some incredibly dickish people I once called friends.

Which would be fine in most cases because they would just stay within their circle of friends. But I'm a little bit know among artists now and these rumors persisted. I haven't done anything nefarious to anyone in my life but people are cunts.

So everyone is pretty sick of namefags right? At least the ones who just shitpost but never actually post art soooo here's your chance. You like stroking your own ego so much, post your art here too and we'll judge whether or not your art is good enough that we give a fuck about the rest of what you have to say.

Not posting my work because it's irrelevant when giving my opinion. You don't need to know how to make movies to know if one sucked, and you don't need to know how to cook to know if your food tastes like shit so just post and stop making excuses, faggots.

Favourite pieces in your local gallery?

Usually it's Giambattista Tiepolo's 'The Banquet of Cleopatra' but we're currently having WM at the NGV which is effay to say the least. Went with my brother, somehow he didn't make a sound while looking at it.

So does that mean it's simultaneously extremely self conscious yet hilariously not self aware? Or do you mean it's the laughingstock of all other galleries? Expound on this term "effay" please.
>>
>>2473896
Damn dude.

We're no Sydney, but the Andy Warhol / Ai Weiwei exhibitions are great! No need to get pretentious. Every gallery has a piece that you enjoy, implying that you think NGV hasn't one single piece you like is laughable.

Nobody? I assumed they had an internet presence from that book and their mlp tutorial book also for sale here. I was wondering if they were legit but didn't want to actually open the books.

Hi dudes. I want to get as much attention around my work as i can, but i don't know what i should do. I know my skill lvl is better than alot of stuff that's getting alot more attention, but i don't know what to do in order to create some buzz around my stuff.

The main reason my work isn't that popular is because it's mostly gritty and dark stuff that most pple can't relate to i think. Should i just start doing alot of fanart and stuff so i can start earning atleast some money from it?

Pic related. Not my work but similar.

http://www.npr.org/sections/alltechconsidered/2016/04/06/473265273/a-new-rembrandt-from-the-frontiers-of-ai-and-not-the-artists-atelier

>A new Rembrandt painting unveiled in Amsterdam Tuesday has the tech world buzzing more than the art world. That's because the painting is the creation of a 3-D printer — and not the Dutch master Rembrandt van Rijn himself, who has been dead for almost 450 years. "The Next Rembrandt," as it's been dubbed, was the brainchild of Bas Korsten.

>"I thought, well, if you can basically take historical data and then create something new out of it, why can't we distill the artistic DNA of a painter out of his body of work and create a new artwork out of that?" Korsten tells NPR's Audie Cornish. "And that's how the idea was born."

>A computer learned, with artificial intelligence, how to re-create a new Rembrandt right eye. The statistical data even determined the type of painting — a portrait, which was the most significant portion of the artist's work, and were most common between 1632 and 1642.

>The portrait looks like an actual Rembrandt, right down to the texture of the brushstrokes, which the 3-D printer mimicked. Korsten will be the first to say that it won't fool experts. "I wish it was that good, and it isn't," he says. "I think the expert eye sees that this isn't a real Rembrandt. And it's also got to do with the state of technology that we're in, the amount of time that we had for the process," he says.

>Even a better painting will never be the same as one by the actual artist. But Korsten says the program — which started as a project for ING, the Dutch bank — could be used to help restore lost or damaged art. "If a piece of a painting is lost, if it's burned and you're left with only 20 percent of a painting, you could, with this technique, maybe re-create the other 80 percent," he says.

Well /ic/, this is the end.

Honestly these videos scare the shit out of me, even though they don't mean much now, but could mean a lot in the long term.

I'm scared that some day you will be able to make drawing easier, painting's already been made easier with the digital age, but you can't fool drawing. And what if in the near future someone with little to no knowledge will be able to feed specifications into a computer and get exactly the artwork he imagined? rip
