FAQ:
Something's broken, what do I do?
>The site is currently in the alpha phase of development and is being built around us as we compete so sometimes things go wrong. If you ever need any help send me a tweet @LavaFlake or shoot me an email [email protected].
What do we draw?
>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.
What's a low effort warning?
>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.
>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.
What happens if I'm eliminated?
>A new Last Artist Standing challenge starts every week. If you get eliminated then get it together and rejoin next week.
How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?
>This is a way to let new artists join in and to allow re-entry for the eliminated. Every week a new challenge is started. If you joined on week 1 and make it to week 2 then your daily submission counts for both the first and second Last Artist Standing. If you get eliminated then you're eliminated from both challenges and you'll be able to rejoin next week.
Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?
>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

Do you think my art good enough for me to get a scholarship to California college of the arts
Here's another one
Why do I hate my drawings so much? Why am I scared to start drawing something and always expect a failure?

Get used to it.

quit fucking crying
you can only draw terribly to know why you're terrible and that translates into getting better
by that logic, it sounds like you don't have the mindset so drop it already

The master has failed more times than the beginner has even tried- Adolf Hitler
I have been drawing/inking and painting since I was a kid. I'm in my 20s now, and I've realized that I am merely a photocopy machine. I draw what I see, but everything always seems a bit... off. I believe this is because I haven't studied the foundations. I think the subjects in my art have no weight to them, and often proportions are off. I also have a problem drawing from the mind, the things I create from nothing tend to suffer the same fate but worse. I am thinking of purchasing a book to help self study and have narrowed it down to four options:
1. Figure Drawing for All It's Worth by Andrew Loomis
2. Figure Drawing: Design and Invention by Michael Hampton
3. Classic Human Anatomy: The Artist's Guide to Form, Function, and Movement by Valerie Winslow
4. Bridgman's Complete Guide to Drawing from Life
If you had to pick one that would give me a good foundation which would it be? Also feel free to suggest a reading order or to supplement your own suggestions in place.
>narrowed it down to four options
No. Instead, you're gonna read all 4, and continue on from there.
Instead, read them up in a certain order.
Start with Michael Hampton and Bridgman's book at the same time, going back and forth. Then read up on Classic Human anatomy. Then finish up with Loomis' book Figure Drawing for All It's Worth.
However, once you're done with all 4, you basically just started. Where to go from there is up to you. The book section has great recommendations.
>>2480197
For a book focused on figures, I like Hampton's book. It doesn't get as bogged down in measurements and anatomy. It focuses on feeling the forms, and gesture and weight. It focuses more on the basic foundations I guess, the most important stuff. So I think it's best to start with.
Loomis' books are great too though, and touch on placing figures in a scene, perspective, composing shots, that sort of thing. A little in the book you listed, more in the "Successful Drawing" book.
Bridgeman's books are also great. Some nice ways of thinking about the forms, but I found his stuff to be a chore to read through.
I'd recommend to work through all 3, slowly and methodically one at a time. But yeah, I'd start with Hampton if you just want to focus on drawing figures from imagination right now.
I've never read the Valerie Winslow book so can't comment on that.

not op but is this possible study 4 books in same time? i don't think so
Why cant i draw a simple straight line?
i try so goddamn hard and i just cant draw a straight line
i get all the vitamins and minerals and shit i need
im almost never tired when i draw
my tablets calibrated just fine
i dont get it.
is there a really good drawing program with a brush that makes your lines not shitty?
i have no clue
please help
>>2464350
>>2468597
You're not gonna make it.
>>2468597
On a tablet, if you move the pen really fast, you might get a straighter line than usual.
It also might be because you're drawing on PS and a tablet. If you draw slowly in PS, you get jittery lines.
What program are you using?
How many of you have used recreational drugs for creative inspiration? Do you have drawings you've made while under the influence?
>>2473080
my strong creative brain doesn't need weak drugs to git gud.
>>2473095
>to git gud.
>creative brain

Never, drugs are for degenerates.

try not to take my trolling too seriously
i drew 5 pages of hands today but ill just post these two
>>2474702
that is only one page
>>2474702
once i added a pencil intersecting my fingers it made things WAY more complicated. it's going to take a lot more practice to be able to draw that convincingly but i tried it a few times today.
Which artist draws the best speed lines?
https://youtu.be/FJhFqWZ4Pkw
Also what other tips do you guys have for drawing intense and fast action sequences?
>>2479539
The comic Luther Strode has some amazing dynamic action drawing. Especially the second volume
>>2479572
I actually own both volumes I can't wait for the third one.
>>2479572
That looks awful. I don't know if it's the art itself, or if it would look better without the awful attempt at coloring.
If /ic/ hate's Brad Rigney's latest stuff then does that mean they also hate Michael Komarck the god himself?
>If /ic/ hate's Brad Rigney's
since when?
>>2479026
since he turned into a filthy photobasher.
Can't really blame him, desu. Dude used to spend 200 hours on a single illustration and didn't use fucking references. If he found something he couldn't draw out of his head, he'd stop the illustration and study that thing until he could. At least so he says. Pretty cool if you think about it, but utterly unsustainable if you're trying to support yourself on your art.
Komarck is literally god tho, op is right. I think he's a little better than Mullins, personally.
OP's image is not a Komarck painting, btw. Don't know why you posted that op.

I have a book thou i don't have a scanner. Alla Prima №1 basically same shit, thou there are some adjustments to text and more paintings he shares. Back then I read fist edition in pdf on my laptop and get a real book some time after (when I got a job) as a present for my sister (aeeeehh and for myself actually).
