I was listening to an interview with Craig Winn (yah I know he's kind of crazy) on Coast to Coast AM. And he made an argument that really got me thinking and I wanted your views on it.
I'm paraphrasing here, but he basically said that the first Gulf War was fought for Bush's best interest, not America's best interest. He claimed that the real reason the war was started was to stop Iraq from taking Saudi Arabia after Kuwait, because of George Bush's business deals with the Saudi's.
He went on to say that America's best interest would have been to stay out and let Saddam go on and declare war on the Saudi's and eventually annex them. He claimed that with him in charge of Iraq/Kuwait/Arabia that terrorism over the next years would have dramatically decreased. He used the example that Iraq averaged 3 terrorist attacks a year under Saddam vs. the 1000's a year that happen now.
So my question is do you think he is right? Was it the wrong decision?

Yes it was a great episode. It's really had me wondering how it could have played out. He had some very interesting ideas. They still put good shows together occasionally.
If it had been played a little differently, Saddam could have been the guy basically in charge of the middle east. He would have made a strong ally for the US. One capable of keeping Iran in check.

Why did every empire that had the chance, forgo the opportunity to take over the much weaker/smaller african states/tribes in their "resource rich" areas of the continent to fight for resources elsewhere. There is a reason that maps of Africa were limited-shit trade routes, crossing a desert to get malaria and have the horse you rode in on die isn't a fun trip.
The agriculture is shit and its always been a shitty place to live that any world power would have forgone the opportunity to take it over until the colonial period where there was extreme pressure to acquire property.

say the Nazis actually took Moscow, how the Hell do they win from there? How could Hitler possible take out Russian infrastructure in the Urals or to the east? Meme historians and even half of the mainstream consensus seems to be the Soviets were on the verge of losing, why do they think this?
Not looking to bait I'm genuinely curious and feel like I'm missing some understanding here. it was my understanding Stalin put a lot of infrastructure in place in the case of a successful invasion and capture of Moscow.

Actually, I played an interesting HOI4 game as Germany.
Denmark went Communist and the UK declared war on them which lead to Communist Denmark joining the Commintern and the Allies went to war with the Soviets.
As Germany I gave Slovakia to the Poles for Danzig. Then seeing me as not as a threat the Poles formed their own faction in the Baltics. I back stabbed the Poles without a gurantee from the Allies and occupied them and the Baltics.
Then I joined the Allies war on the Soviets. France invaded through Finland and the UK through the Crimea.
Eventually I got the Japanese to invade Siberia and we put down the Soviets without having to go all the way to the Urals.
After that I declared war on the Allies.
