Since I haven't seen one in a while, let's have a good old-fashioned /his/ meme thread.

I saw a sneaky tankie edit that removed /leftypol/ from this. Remember to be careful folks.

>Mozi views aesthetics as nearly useless. Unlike Confucius, he holds a distinctive repulsion to any development in ritual music and the fine arts. Mozi takes some whole chapters named "Against Music" (非樂) to discuss this. Though he mentions that he does enjoy and recognize what is pleasant, he sees them of no utilization in terms of governing, or of the benefit of common people. Instead, since development of music involves man's power, it reduces production of food; furthermore, appreciation of music results in less time for administrative works.
What was wrong with this guy? Is it pure autism?
>>3044541
He's right.
>>3044541
nah I can understand it, why waste effort and precious resources on stuff that has no practical use
he has a very valid argument
>>3044541
Pure autism. Artists like him are why we live in a soul crushing world of oppressively ugly architecture and city planning.

Philosophy should, as far as possible, adhere to the methods and discourses of the natural sciences
Please formulate your ideas through logic and fake math
Don’t bother the public with your research or ideas, «public intellectuals» are unprofessional clowns
Russel and Wittgenstein are very smart pals
«Let’s produce some cool research about this object or discourse straight on, no need to consider how our epistemic or ontological access to said object/discourse is grounded in human subjectivity»
I’m not normative I’m doing research here
Let’s start with objectivity and understand ourselves from there
vs
Philosophy is a fundamentally separate discipline prior to natural science, let those nerds do their own thing
In fact, scientists are naive for not understanding how the knowledge they produce is dependent on human consciousness + particular historical and ideological power structures, and philosophers are stupid for attempting to mimic their methods
What’s the point of you can’t be critical?
I’d rather write a big nice book with beautiful prose than a boring ass journal article no one’s ever gonna read
Kant and Hegel are top pals
Let’s start with the subject and try to understand the world there
Pick a side /his
The first one, make more sense, the second one is pure sematics discussion and "muh point of view" so... nothing can come from that.
>>3043950
Also does anyone have the analytic philosophy infographic?
>>3043873
prefer the second one.
it's more honest about it's limitations, and less prone to the dick-measuring autism of "physics envy" that plague "soft sciences" (economists, sociologists, etc.)..
I don't think contradictions are a bad thing, rather they should be welcomed because we're contradictory as people.
It sounds so dreamy and idyllic and vast. I just want to lay around and watch the clouds while my flock grazes around me as we take a short 3-6 hour break so I can nap. Is it everything I hope it to be if I get a small flock? Or would I have to split up the workload to get assloads of downtime? Like with siblings? It looks so fucking comfy
John Stalvern waited. The lights above him blinked and sparked out of the air. There were wolfs in the field. He didn’t see them, but had expected them now for years. His warnings to Hunter Joson were not listenend to and now it was too late. Far too late for now, anyway.
John was a shepherd for fourteen years. When he was young he watched the sheeps and he said to dad “I want to be on the sheeps daddy.”
Dad said “No! You will BEKILLBY WOLFS”
There was a time when he believed him. Then as he got oldered he stopped. But now in the sheep station field of thevillagehe knew there were wolfs.
“This is Joson” the yell crackered. “You must fight the wolfs!”
So John gotted his crook and parted the grass.
“HEGOINGTOKILLUS” said the wolfs
“I will bite at him” said the alphawolf and he snapped the sharp teeth. John swanged at him and tried to beat him up. But then the tree fell and they were trapped and not able to kill.
“No! I must kill the wolfs” he shouted
The yell said “No, John. You are the wolfs”
And then John was a furfag.

Is "european russia" a part of europe? Im asking this because wikipedia seems to think so, which comes as a surprise.
I was thaught in history class that europe ends with Finland-Estonia-Poland. I don't know if even Belarus and Ukraine would be in europe, I didn't think so. Recently I am told that Estonia is also not in europe at all.
And which countries constitute west/east/north/south europe? I saw a map where UK for example, was a part of north europe.
>>3043775
I mean most of Russia's population does live in Europe, and the Kievian Rus started in europe so yes.
>>3043775
>I was thaught in history class that europe ends with Finland-Estonia-Poland
Where the fuck do you live?
>>3043775
Personally I see Europe as ending at the Ural Mountains and Caucasus mountains so Russia west of the Urals is European. Also Armenia gets pass as European since they kind of stride the Caucasus and they're Christian which makes them more culturally similar to other Europeans than their west Asian neighbors.
Serious question: What do you hope to achieve by studying history?
Understanding of why things are the way they are

I like to know how I got to the shop, you know what I mean? What would your life be like if everyday you suddenly became aware of yourself at a shop counter? Wouldn't you want to know how you got there? Think of that film Memento, without a knowledge of the past, Guy Pearse's character is how society acts.
Historically, has communism ever worked?
San Marino, sort of

Typically it starts to do well once they overcome the initial starvation and start to transition to a state-capitalism type system with lots of state-owned assets provided low-cost transit, water, electricity, etc in combination with low- or debt-free loans used to develop infrastructure.
Yea some of the consumer products are not as good and the choices not as varied but at least you don't have a situation where housing, healthcare, food, education etc costs are rapidly outpacing wage inflation. For example in China on one of their largest subway systems the fare has remained the same for 20 years while wages rose a lot.
Ideally you could have that without it being a communist country and without the poorer consumer products and poor safety standards/legal rights but nobody so far has in practice shown how to have your cake and eat it too.
>>3043404
>communism
>tried
Socialism has been tried, and it kind of works a little bit. Not as well as liberal capitalism though, just ask France.
Was Troy really on the Iberian peninsula? Were goddess cults more widespread before 1200 BC? Has anyone else read Sora's work? I don't know much of the time period and this hypothesis seems kind of hokey.

No, its in Turkey

The modern Newgrange is a modern foregery. There is nothing authentic about it unlike Stonehenge for example which is only partially a forgery.
The original Newgrange was built by pre-Indo-European people and their civilization did not last.
