Why did Europeans wear such wacky clothes from ~1500 to ~1800?
>>1359272
Colors were a symbol of status
Dyes were expensive
>>1359272
Because
They could
>>1359272
They wanted to show off.
Which set of philosophies should I study if I want to become an übermensch master manipulator?

He was muslim
>Lutherans and Catholics, Protestants, all of us agree on the doctrine of justification. On this point, which is very important, he (Martin Luther) did not err. He made a medicine for the Church…
Seriously, what did he mean by this?
And no, I'm not making this up:

>doctrine of justification
>On this point
>he (Martin Luther) did not err
Sola fide confirmed. Catholics BTFO.
He means now that the Lutherans have female ordination and gay marriage, they're ready to be reconciled.
>>1359017
really your hate boner for the catholic church is something else. The pope reaches out to people outside the church and you treat it like he is rewriting the doctrines on gay marriage and premarital sex.
Honestly it seems like many Orthodox resent the Roman church for its prominence
Who let the Colosseum go to shit? And how did that diagonal part come off so cleanly?
No answers. Did anybody take care of the structure after the Romans?
>>1358811
Probably not.
Renovating/fixing historical building is more a modern thing.
Catholic church couldnt give 2 shits about it, they often took parts off for building materials, most notably the marble cover
Why is there so much creationist shitposting lately?
Do Americans ACTUALLY believe in YEC?
>>1358654
>Over 40 Percent Of Americans Believe In Creationism, Survey Says. 42% of Americans hold the creationist belief that God created humanity as it currently exists a mere 10,000 years ago, according to a Gallup poll from May 2014.
>>1358654
Yes, Americans are fucking retarded.
Was Islamic imperialism of Europe responsible for the West's desire to take over the world?
And if so, whenever I hear "liberal" SJWs say "White people need to apologize and destroy themselves to show they are truly sorry!" how should I argue about how all human civilizations do horrible things, but have to keep their identity, or we are no better.
711 Never Forget
>>1358569
it's nothing different than any previous empire did so why would it change the europeans' mindset towards conquest? reconquista sure, but that's only related to the Islamic conquest in that it was framed as retaking what they had conquered. the Islamic conquest did not immediately cause forced conversions like the spanish did in Grenada and in South America
>>1358569
Was Roman Imperialism of Mesopotamia responsible for the Arab's desire to take over Europe?
See, that doesn't sound too smart, does it?
People have been invading and conquering years before and years after the muslims.
>>1358569
No, Islam was never seen as a major threat in Western Europe before the Ottomans. More an annoyance than anything.
>i-it's all a boogeyman
Congrats
good fucking lord what did i just read
>>1358394
There's already a gay version of the Iliad.

Is this Any good? I don't know much about the crusades
Same. Is it a case of "This one side dindu nuffin" or is it unbiased
>>1358586
Both the Arabs and the Crusaders were both invaders, so its hard to say either dindu nuffin regardless.
>>1358371
It's fairly balanced.

Looking back at prohibition, the mainstream view is that it was a failure imposed by a bunch of church ladies.
But was America headed towards Russian levels of hard liquor consumption before prohibition?
You see all those westerns, pulling off a bottle of whisky was required?
What caused the tremendous decline in 1830?
I seem to recall from a history class long ago that liquor production was tied to grain production. That is, making whisky was something to do with your surplus corn, etc. As transportation became better, there were more markets for that surplus and therefore less consumption. I would imagine that this graph reflects a complex social and economic interaction.
Tell me about WW1?
>>1357980
like 7 people died or something
What the fuck is that map
That map gave me aids.
Is the political climate surrounding Gun Control today similar to what surrounded slavery? Could the US have a second civil war over banning guns?
>>1357927
No
Yes, and it would fucking hilarious since most people in the military are pro-gun and wouldn't fire on their own families (who generally tend to also be pro-gun)
>>1357959
I feel like if it came to that the military would just overthrow the President wanting a gun-ban. Like if it got to the point where Americans starting to rebel, the Military would say enough is enough and depose the leader.

Such is the freedom of Yankeeland.
What do we hope to achieve in the discussion of problem of the other minds? Specifically about the philosophical zombies?
>>1357903
>philosophical zombies?
A non-problem. If it thinks like a human, looks like a human, and can't be distinguished in any way from a human, then it's a human.
>>1357923
What if it is a robot?
>>1357950
Nano is a human in my heart.
>>1357923
For example, if ethics or moral philosophy is a thing to guide us how to live our life based on accepted moral standard, basically how to be a decent person who can avoid crime acts. What do we hope to achieve from this problem of other minds that looks like just purely a brain game?
Does anyone know what this symbol means? Saw it in a dream and have had no results turn up, it could be flipped the other way or the dashes can be reversed the memory is hazy.
