>Why was fascism so popular in Germany and Italy yet so unsuccessful in Britain?
>How would Britain's relationship with the commonwealth be affected if it had progressed to a fascist government? Would Canada and Australia break off from Britain entirely?
>Could fascist British empire push the axis to victory?
>>1543256
Fascism in Italy and Nazism in Germany were fed by two factors:
1. Being butthurt about the unfavorable outcome of the Great War (in case of Italy - butthurt about the small amount of spoils).
2. Post-war an Great Recession economic hardships.
In case of UK, only the second factor is in the picture, and even then the population was hit much softer than those living on the Continent.
Fascism is a kind of revolutionary change that requires the people to want to take charge of the country. But English people are cattle, they never rose up against their rulers in any other way either.

Australian politician Menzies complimented pre-war hitler, so on our front little change with our relationship with a fascist Britain would occur
Why do people think Germany invented massing tanks into tank divisions supported by motorized infantry when every major military was already doing it before Germany?

Currently I am beginning my 2 year getting my Bachelors in History. I have decided I want to join the Army as an officer, but also want a PhD in American History. Is anybody here in the same situation? I know it's possible to continue going to school while in the Army, but I'm worried wherever I'm stationed might hinder my options. Should I get the PhD first or join as an officer, then go for the PhD while I'm in? Which Universities are best for US History Advanced Degrees?
How old are you?
Unless you want to teach don't bother going for a doctorate in history.
"Chivalry" in the modern sense (not medieval) once attempted to dictate how men should behave towards women.
Was there a corresponding system for women's behavior toward men?

I like some JW interpretations of the bible. Not so much Constantine council of Nicea bullshit thrown in. I'd never go back though 13 years of my childhood was enough.
is it the dog that creates existence or is it existence that creates the dog?
>>1530333
A dog exists.

And a dog experiences existence
>>1530341
The dog is the experience.
I was reading an issue of Popular Science from 1887 which mentions Bill Nye and I can't find any other William Nyes who went by Bill in the 19th century. What is going on here

Can someone please explain to me what the fuck dialectical materialism even is
>As Z. A. Jordan notes, "Engels made constant use of the metaphysical insight that the higher level of existence emerges from and has its roots in the lower; that the higher level constitutes a new order of being with its irreducible laws; and that this process of evolutionary advance is governed by laws of development which reflect basic properties of 'matter in motion as a whole'."
What the fuck does this even mean? Everywhere I read about this kind of shit, it is written in such a vague Marxist Newspeak that you could literally interpret to mean anything you want. Why does all Marxist thinking have be written in such a way that it makes it impossible for anyone besides some super well read philosopher to understand it. I thought communism was supposed to be an ideology for the common peasant and factory slave, or is its obscurity kind of the point. Its like Marxist teachings are preached the same way that the bible was preached before it became vernacular, at the whim of the reader.
Materialism is the notion that matter is primary and that the mind is secondary and arises from the matter, as opposed to idealism which is it's antithesis. dialectics is when referring to two difference points of view, one is correct and the other incorrect. dialectical materialism is the notion that matter can get so advanced that it can form what we now know as an economy, and form that economy even more advanced things can form, i.e.: from capitalism to marxism. think of it as a kind of natural selection, or as a hegalian spiral (which is what he was ultimately getting at)
>>1530329
so its the notion that since matter exists, therefor the mind arises. And from the mind, its machinations eventually create economies, thus capitalism, thus Marxism arises as a response to capitalism?
Condensing it down, it kind of just sounds like a more fleshed out version of saying "Communism is inevitable", right?
>>1530344
marxism is merely controlled opposition to give the masses a voice but no legs, or stop a greater populous attaining arms by eradicating its head.nebecanezza

No competitors, geographically isolated. Some naturally occurring resource abundance in its topographic formation. Took 3000 years for the west to reach and influence it via Communism in 1939. Historically sheltered on all sides from the Mediteranians affluence (tibet, india, mid east, siberia, nippon, americas, SEA)
True citie on a hill. Perched atop; Xionagu, Hun, Mongol, Manchu. And now Communism, falling back in on itself, finally.
Communism, Socialism, Democracy, always mark civilisation resets. Always.
I always hear people say how he was such a good guy for not killing jews and POWs, however these don't seem like things that automatically make him a good guy. So was he actally good, or just good for a nazi?
He was a glorified mediocre tbqh famalam.

If we're talking morality, no, he was more in the "relatively" good camp. He was the sort who only started distancing himself from the Nazi Party's politics when convenient for him, not out of ideological bent. He volunteered repeatedly to head Hitler's bodyguard when Der Fuhrer was traveling pre-war, and he spent his time between the fall of France and North Africa shooting Nazi propaganda films.

YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS SHIT UP
Shut yer pus.
>and as a result it was forced to cede its sovereignty to England
There are a couple of things wrong with this statement.
>forced
The process was voluntary, at least on the part of the Scottish nobility if not the Scottish people themselves.
>cede its sovereignty
Nobody ceded anything to anybody. It was, on paper anyway, a union of two equal nations. You could even argue, if you wanted, that Scotland was the senior partner in the union because the Stuarts were from Scotland.
What an awful thread.
