>yfw you realized civilization collapses not due to "degeneracy" but because they are complex dissipative structures that face diminishing returns on energy input

I see you've also read your Tainter.

>yfw you realize that societies can't "collapse" in a meaningful sense if they have civilized neighbors preparing to capitalize on state failure to extend control
>yfw you realize that the modern problem of failed states is due to the international norm against colonialism
>>
can you elaborate how our civilization is collapsing?
>>

Every civilization has collapsed. It doesn't matter if it is or is not.

Only children are truly free. They can scream and throw a temper tantrum if they want to. They can cry without feeling embarassed or guilty. They can fart and crap their pants and forget about all responsibilities and just exist, embracing both suffering and enjoyment to the fullest extent

Social conditioning and culture limit the minds of adults and tell us what we can and can't do.

I can't scream right now. I cannot scream at the top of my lungs and say "Fuck this". I cannot do it. Literally I could not do it even if I wanted to, I am not free. Because of my social conditioning and the fact that I care about the consequences - maybe someone would hear and think "wtf".

Only children are free

Early forms of kenjutsu were generally practiced with bokken and lacked any sort of systematized sparring. Kenjutsu, and ther other weapon arts were practiced through two man kata.

This state of affairs continued into the edo era, however after a few peaceful generations some felt that the sword schools had lost their edge with the lack of warfare and duels with live blades legally restricted.

some schools made improvements to the shinai, or bamboo sword and fashioned crude armor for sparring and other drills. While conservatives decried this as an unrealistic form of training, its dynamic nature made it very popular.

As Japan entered the late edo period shinai kenjutsu had become dominate, and men trained in the method occupied many positions in the militias of the bakumatsu. With the rise of Meiji however swordsmenship entered a decline. Those schools that survived tended to follow the government push for standardization and modernization. The differences between the various schools were minimized and a standardized kata set replaced the different kata practiced by older styles.

after WWII kendo was revived under the kendo reimei which increased the trend of sportification and spiritual development which began in Meiji.

>The Magdalene Laundries in Ireland, also known as Magdalene asylums, were institutions, generally run by Roman Catholics, that operated from the 18th to the late 20th centuries. They were run ostensibly to house "fallen women". An estimated 30,000 women were confined in these institutions in Ireland. In 1993, a mass grave containing 155 corpses was uncovered in the convent grounds of one of the laundries.[1] This led to media revelations about the operations of the secretive institutions. A formal state apology was issued in 2013, and a £50 million compensation scheme for survivors was set up, to which the Catholic Church has refused to contribute.[2]

What is the Orthodox equivalent to this?

Also, what was the Orthodox equivalent to the Borgias in terms of depravity? As in Patriarchs who had orgies and gave their illegitimate children positions of power?

Let's talk about existentialism.

Why did Sartre put so much empasis on nausea? In my experience the awareness of one's own existence and all its implications can cause anxiety, melancholia and boredom. But nausea? What's supposed to be so disgusting about existence?

That's a handsome gorilla. I want him to fuck me.
>>
>>1736689

He was raised a christcuck, his realization that meaning is not absolute was shocking to him and apparently caused him nausea. This is the same reason Nietzsche had such an extreme reaction to the same realization, his christian faith was ripped out from under him, causing a mental shock.

On a purely personal note, I was raised by completely godless parents and always found ideas like nihilism and absurdism trivially obvious. This isn't because I have a stronger mind than Sartre or Nietzsche, it's because I wasn't burdened with the same payload of false ideas that I was forced to jettison.

Been reading Saint John Damascene's "An Exact Exposition of the Orthodox Faith," and he raised an interesting point. Wouldn't something that always existed, be immutable (since there is nothing else to make it change but itself)? And for things which did not always exist, their very existence would be mutable, and unless they exist of their own volition (they willed themselves into existence), wouldn't there have to be some source of their movement? 'An object at rest' and all of that?
50 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Also I know Aristotle raised similar points, but not in terms of always existing vs. not always existing (since Aristotle did not believe the universe was created, but always was, it's just that it was *moved* by God).
>>
>>1736366
>Wouldn't something that always existed, be immutable (since there is nothing else to make it change but itself)?

No, that doesn't follow at all.

>things which did not always exist, their very existence would be mutable

Nope, you can change matter into energy and vice versa but you can't "unmake" it. It's character is mutable, but it's existence isn't.

>unless they exist of their own volition (they willed themselves into existence

Logically impossible.

>wouldn't there have to be some source of their movement?

Yes, it's called "the big bang".
>>
>>1736409
The big bang is a mutable occurrence, though. Unless you believe spontaneous movement can occur (in which case we can throw out Newton's First law), something else would have to have set it in motion.

Philosophy is dead and should stop being studied. It is an infinitely recursing rabbit hole of questions that will never lead anywhere

> Philosophy is dead and should stop being studied.
So is math, because for any set of axioms there is true statement that can't be decided in it.

Serious question about Christian doctrine.
It is said that atheists go to hell because they lack faith in God.
It is also often stated that the Biblical description of hell is metaphorical - that hell is an eternal existence of being unable to reach or percieve God.

If we were to take that interpretation of hell as accurate, how would it be any different from ordinary life for atheists?

god is like the sun whose warmth falls on everyone, believers and unbelievers alike. after death this warmth is removed and the soul itself is judged.
>>
>>1735963
>If we were to take that interpretation of hell as accurate, how would it be any different from ordinary life for atheists?

Atheists are perfectly able to reach and perceive God, they are just unwilling to. The difference between hell and everyday for an atheist, is that in hell the atheist has been stripped of his delusions and now ACTUALLY cannot reach or perceive God.

It's the equivalent of one of those bitches that's always cold complaining about how "there's no heat in here the air-conditioning is too high" being dumped into an environment where the temperature is absolute zero and there actually is no heat there.

Tell me about life inside the Mongol Empire.

What was the culture like? Was it really an empire or a glorified Mongolian grazing pen?
25 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Grazing pen. The Empire deserves recognition for its role in Eurasian trade routes but little else. That map is more an 'area of where mongols fucked shit up and left'

They may leave behind a weak khanate in these uninhabited flat lands but little else.

If you want an empire that developed its conquests, look to Rome.
>>
It was split into different Khanates that would intermix the local cultures with the one of the Mongols. Each then ruled by one of Genghis sons that would pretty much establish a dynasty in that region.

What people don't seem to understand about Tengrism is that it is a very flexible religion that allows the worship of other religions cause Mongols consider it as "another form of Tengri".
The only thing they had a real problem with was halal slaughter which Genghis himself considered a disgusting practice and would put the death penalty on anyone doing it.
This of course changed when the fragmentation started and the ilkhanate gradually became muslim with the Golden Horde.
