"You don't know your future unless you know your history" is a common saying.
Well, some of you do know your history, so what do you think the next 100 years holds /his/?

Shalom brothers. Let's discuss all things Jewish.
>How chosen we our, how God chose to give us his law code an no one else
>How many people died in the holocaust, holocaust stories (anyone got any relatives turned into soap?)
>Jewish thinkers (Marx, Freud)
And anything else!

It's hard to argue that Bible is right if you have to claim that parts of it are metaphorical. After all, if Genesis is just a metaphor, how can you be sure God isn't just a metaphor as well?

Any idea of what the Cycrillc says?
Was ww1 truly as bad as books and films make it seem?
Did soldiers really die seconds after leaving the trenches most of the time?
I'm not trying to be disrespectful to the soldiers, I'm just curious
>>2108543
Buddy if you aren't able to google this you should just fuck off.
>>2108543
Yes, thanks to the marvels of writing, you can read accounts of the soldiers themselves, and thanks to the magic of record-keeping you too, are able to know how many people died in the war.
>>2108543
Verdun and, to a lesser extend, the Somme were particularly awful
Now it wasn't the case in every battle on every front (although even in the "quiet" places soldiers were far from having it nearly as easy as WW2 US troops or 21st century Western troops)
Is this what modern day propaganda looks like?

Operation Barbarossa was a defensive pre-emptive strike
>in 1941 alone, Hitler reveals to Mannerheim that the soviet union had built up 35,000 tanks
>prior to the attack, the soviets outnumbered germany 4:1 in tanks and planes stationed at the border
>zhukov had written up a plan to invade germany as early as 1940
stalin had given speeches saying after the "capitalists" had exhausted themselves in war, he will sweep in and take over
>many of the russian tanks that were built up on the border were smaller light tanks, which are more likely to be used in the urban street fighting of metropolitan western europe, rather than the large tanks for fighting in open plains of eastern europe
>"It must be our objective that Germany wage war long enough to exhaust England and France so much that they cannot defeat Germany alone.... Should Germany win, it will itself be so weakened that it won't be able to wage war against us for 10 years.... It's paramount for us that this war continues as long as possible, until both sides are worn out."
>russia had already invaded German ally Romania and staged a coup in Yugoslavia

> With regard to Southeastern Europe attention is called by the Soviet side to its interest in Bessarabia. The German side declares its complete political disinteredness in these areas.
They can hardly claim they felt threatened by it.
>prior to the attack, the soviets outnumbered germany 4:1 in tanks and planes stationed at the border
And Germany outnumbered the Soviets in men and artillery. So what?
>many of the russian tanks that were built up on the border were smaller light tanks, which are more likely to be used in the urban street fighting of metropolitan western europe, rather than the large tanks for fighting in open plains of eastern europe
Da fuck? Light tanks are worthless in urban fighting, as their primary advantage, speed, is more or less meaningless, and they're vulnerable to all sorts of shit. Not to mention that even if you did believe this crap, there's a fuckton of open country in Poland and Romania and Eastern Germany they'd have to fight through.
Read this and go away.

The protestant dogma of sola scriptura (i.e., considering the bible the unique authority) can't be sustained logically in any way.
Where did they take the basis for that dogma?
If from the bible itself, then it is circular reasoning ("I believe Edgar Allan Poe's tales are true because the tales themselves say they are".
If from outside the bible, then it is a contradiction ("I consider the bible the only authority because tradition told me to do so").
If you come with some ad hoc argument, like, "I believe the bible is the only authority because of FAITH", then it is still illogical, because using the faith as criterion of truth either comes from the bible (circular reasoning) or form outside (contradiction).

>Irish War of Independence is underway
>British have a tonne of spies
>Michael Collins assembles a team of 12 gunmen and calls them the 12 Apostles
>The 12 Apostles assassinate spies and plainclothes police throughout Ireland, growing more and more efficient
>One day in November 1921, the 12 Apostles hunted down and killed 14 MI5 officers within a few hours, while another 6 were wounded.
>News of this devastating attack sparked the events that would leave November 21st, 1920 to be known as Bloody Sunday
>Michael Collins literally assembled a dirty dozen and sent them on a crazy mission to destroy a gang of spies
>One of the members ended up running the country
>"Mad" Jack Churchill
>Stormed normandy beaches with a Scottish Broadsword and a longbow
>Scored the last recorded kill in battle with a Longbow and Arrow when he shot a german NCO in a village in France
>Before doing this, he told the soldier next to him "See that German? I'm going to shoot him."
>Once walked alone back to a battle torn village to find his sword which he'd lost in melee
>He retrieved it
>He wound up captured and taken to a prison camp, which he escaped alongside an RAF officer
>He and the officer were then recaptured, and sent to a concentration camp
>Jack escaped again, and made his way back to a friendly American line, stealing supplies from Krauts along the way
>When the war in Europe ended he asked to be sent to Japan because "There's still the nips, aren't there?"

In 6000 years of recorded human history why did the majority of technological advancements only happen in the last 200 years?
>inb4 religion
Billions of people still follow a religion in modern times and some are even willing to blow themselves up for it. So I don't think religion is the only cause for slowing down technological advancement in the 5800 years of riding horses from A to B.
That totally forgoes the Finno-Korean hyperwar

>Evidence for the practice on this day goes back at least to the latter half of the twelfth century, when "the pope washed the feet of twelve sub-deacons after his Mass and of thirteen poor men after his dinner.
>In 1181 Roger de Moulins, Grand Master of the Knights Hospitaller issued a statute declaring, "In Lent every Saturday, they are accustomed to celebrate maundy for thirteen poor persons, and to wash their feet, and to give to each a shirt and new breeches and new shoes, and to three chaplains, or to three clerics out of the thirteen, three deniers and to each of the others, two deniers".[9]
etc
Pope Francis actually broke the norms by washing the feet of women, foot washing was formerly segregated by gender.
>>2107757
>broke the norms by washing the feet of women
I think he broke more then that when he washed the feet of muslims only while ignoring the slaughter of christian minorities currently in the ME.
Owell, more power to us, I guess.
