Explain Arminianism to me, /his/.
>>2114723
Basically God looked into the future before creation and saw which people would choose to accept Jesus and then predestined those people to be saved. Its main distinction from Calvinist soteriology is that it emphasizes individual human agency or 'free will' in cooperating with the Holy Spirit.
>>2114730
>it's an unfunny turk
Surprise, surprise.
>>2114723
Honestly I don't understand well the differences between arminianism and lutheranism.
Both schools teach that you are save thanks to Jesus through Faith. And both of two also preach that Faith is conditional.
ITT ancient traditions that are still being practiced today
>>Baby jumping (El Colacho) is a traditional Spanish holiday dating back to 1620 that takes place annually to celebrate the Catholic feast of Corpus Christi in Burgos.[1][2] During the act, known as El Salto del Colacho (the devil's jump) or simply El Colacho, men dressed as the Devil (known as the Colacho) in red and yellow jump suits jump over babies born during the previous twelve months of the year who lie on mattresses in the street. The "devils" hold whips and oversized castanets as they jump bravely over the unaware infants.
>> The origins of the tradition are unknown but it is said to cleanse the babies of original sin, ensure them safe passage through life and guard against illness and evil spirits.[4][5][6] In recent years, Pope Benedict has asked Spanish priests to distance themselves from El Colacho, and to downplay the tradition’s connection with Catholicism. The Church still teaches that it is baptism by water, not a giant leap by an airborne devil, which cleanses the soul of original sin.[7]
Has anyone ever fucked up and hurt one or more of the babies?

Nobody cares, anyway, but at least try to get your make-belief slur RIGHT.
>Kill one million of his own people
>Sent 18 million people to the Gulags
>Made his wife commit suicide
>Made his son attempt suicide
So,what was his endgame?

Is this a good book to have a general overview on Marxism or is there a better option?
I would start with the Communist Manifest and then move on to Das Kapital

For the sake of making sure I am getting an unbiased view on such things (especially on topics of this nature) I like reading the original work first, then coming to my own conclusions. Its hard work, but the rewards is far greater and intellectually sound than reading someone else's opinion or edition. Go one step further and read their works in the original German or the oldest English edition.
The only exception I've ever made to this rule is Kant, for obvious reasons (he's fucking impossible to take straight due to his idiocy with a pen and the presentation of his ideas)

Did Atlantis really exist /his/? Or was Plato trolling us?
Thousands of civilizations have been lost to the sea. The seas have been rising for a long time.
>muh global warming.
If anything rising seas = prehistoric man made global warming =atlantis
Im not saying Atlantis but you know.
>>2114422
The myth of Atlantis was probably based on existence of Minoan civilization on Crete and its destruction by Mycenaeans.
>>2114422
It was destroyed by the Serbs
Based on historical records, were women better at being leaders of a nation and/or empire than men? Which of the two were the most involved in war and under which rule had the most progressive and developed nation?
Bloody Mary and Catherine de Medicis would like to have a word with you.
>>2114394
Female monarchs have a tendency to wage wars.
Define "progressive".
Most of the world was not really developed before the industrial revolution.

Wait, aren't those model B helmets those goofy looking things they wore in East Germany?

Helmets aren't meant to stop bullets.
Can one become a contemporary historian without going trough academia? What if someone learned the required methodology by all by himself and researched his shit appropriately?
>>2114193
Well, then you just got to go get published. But you're pretty much going about things the most backwards way possible.
>>2114211
What if I start my own neo-academia with hookers and blackjack?
>>2114193
The easiest way is through academia.
The biggest issue is that you would have issues getting funding until you proved that you have some clout as an established researcher.
Why not go through academia though?

Why do people look up to this guy? Is really is an omega. Sad. This man not only destroyed Germany, but Europe. We would still have colonies in Asia and Africa. Wonder what the world would look like with this man. I know I would be around but still would be curious what it would look like.
>>2114139
>We would still have colonies in Asia and Africa.
The colonies were an economic drag by then.
Why do you think no one in all the former colonial empires did any sort of serious protesting when they started being dismantled?
Historically, how the hate of drugs started? Drugs usage is the part of our human nature, our history and our culture. Why in modern society it treated as some sort of bizarre, absurd victimless crime?

What was the most powerful empire in Southeast Asia?
Majapahit for sure.
Probably this, but it didn't last very long. Angkor if you include how long it lasted. Maritime empires were more hegemonic, so I wouldn't count them.
The Netherlands
1) Why did the Byzantines make this cathedral so huge?
2) How costly was it to build, approximately what % of the imperial tax collection did it cost?
3) Was it important as a tool of diplomacy, to awe foreign guests?
Yet again, a thread that is actually related to History is ignored in favour of meme-threads and politics.
I myself would contribute but I can't answer your question, sorry about that, so this post can just serve as a bump instead.
