1980: Polish government signs accord with Gdansk shipyard workers
>On this day in 1980, representatives of the communist government of Poland agree to the demands of striking shipyard workers in the city of Gdansk. Former electrician Lech Walesa led the striking workers, who went on to form Solidarity, the first independent labor union to develop in a Soviet bloc nation.

Who here /NotesOnTheThirdReich/?

Julius Evola had an interesting take on that particular regime. I remember Vox and other gutter outlets started producing pieces about Evola and his alleged influences on Bannon back in January. They said he thought that the Third Reich was the "ultimate traditionalist society" which is total nonsense and you only have to spend about 30 seconds scanning his wikipedia (assuming it hasn't been pozzed already) to see how nonsensical that is. Evola admittedly admired certain aspects of NatSoc Germany, such as the SS, which he saw as a sort of aristocratic brotherhood. He was critical of other aspects of the regime which actually led to him being banned from the country and the regime kept a dossier on him because they thought he was a dangerous thinker and a threat.

Anyway it's a good read if you want a sort of radical traditionalist perspective on National Socialism.

Excerpt:

>An initiative Hitler undertook already in the period when Hindenburg was still head of state, and which had an anti-traditional character, was extending the Gleichschaltung also to the Länder, the individual regional entities that in their partial autonomy and sovereignty corresponded to the various kingdoms, principalities and free cities of the federation of which the Second Reich was composed, with Prussia enjoying a pre-eminent position among them. These were abolished one after another, and the individual Länder were integrated in the central government by taking on the character of Gaue, areas headed by functionaries of the Reich’s central government, who were no longer representatives of the corresponding communities.

>Prussia was the first to undergo this fate under the leadership, unfortunately, of von Papen, a Rightist. Even Hindenburg said nothing to oppose this development, which amounted to a policy of centralising and levelling. Once again the excuse given was the need of a total organisation of all forces with the goal being the maximisation of efficiency. Emphasis was placed on the fact that by this policy Germany had become, for the first time in its history, unified as a “nation” (in the sense of modern nationalism). From our point of view, however, the negative aspect of the initiative is clear, since the previous system of a superior central authority combined with a group of smaller political units that enjoyed partial autonomy had an organic and qualitative character, which is traditional in a superior sense. In this regard Germany had presented, among all the modern European nations, an outstanding example.

Just a note hitler himself didnt like aristocracy.
>>
>>3315986
I don't know if Hitler was against the very notion of aristocracy but as far as I know, he was definitely quite hostile to the old Prussian aristocrats. He perceived them to be the ones to blame for Germany's loss in the first war. You know, they brought the country into the thing, made a pig's ear of it and then surrendered at a time when Hitler believer Germany could have gone further. I remember reading how Wilhelm would write letters to Hitler in exile in the Netherlands and Hitler would just discard the things. But Wilhelm himself wasn't exactly fond of Hitler either, pic related.

How old were the heroes of the Trojan War?
In the Odyssey, Nestor is said to have witnessed three generations, which approximately lasted around 30 years. That means that 20 years after the abduction of Helen his age could range from 61 to 90. I believe he should be around 75, given that he is always referred to as very old and wise. At the beginning of the war he was 55, most likely.
Neoptolemus was born after his father's departure and largely contributed to the fall of the City, meaning he was around 10 at the end of the fighting. How is that possible?
Let's discuss this and other characters together frens

This thread is probably a lot more suited to /lit/, but it's pretty hard to say. A lot of artistic depictions of characters like Odysseus vary on who had them commissioned and when, for example Tiberius' statue at Sperlonga looks like a weathered middle-aged hoplite, even if should be he's around ~50 in my opinion by the time he washes up on Polyphemus' island.
I wouldn't be surprised if Greeks asked each other the same question at drinking parties.

>people are evenly divided between Paul and co. who are against and the rest of the community

Looking back, was guaranteeing Poland against Germany the biggest blunder in world history, or just the biggest blunder in British history?

>Nazi Germany expanding in Europe using unsustainable levels of spending and a retarded fascist system
>Safe from any invasion on the island
>Decide not to get involved between Germany, Poland, and Russia
>Poland divided up between two unsustainable retarded systems
>Germany collapses within a decade
>Britain keeps it's entire empire, has freedom to do whatever it wants with weakened Europe, which was the goal of it's European foreign policy since forever

Instead:

>Guarantee Poland
>Go to war with nothing to gain
>Get rekt, depend on Americans for money, aid
>Grueling war, get lucky that some nips made a hilariously unwise play in the pacific and Germany makes another hilariously unwise play by declaring war on the USA in response
>End up so beaten and in debt and just demoralized that the empire falls apart
>Germany is the European superpower today anyway

What if Hitler managed to defeat Soviet Union? Then he would control all of Europe and Britain would be fucked
>>
>>3321038
>Germany collapses within a decade
You don't know that, and neither did they

Letting Germany get what it wants WAS the official British policy ever since Hitler got to power. At some point after Czechoslovakia was destroyed in 1939 they simply realized that Hitler will stop at nothing and that ignoring him would do more harm than good.

You also fail to understand what was the official British policy towards the continent for more than 200 years. Never, under any circumstances allow another power's hegemony over Europe. WW2 was the last practice of such policy.

What if the US didn't get involved in the war and the Soviets defeated Germany without them? The Soviets would control all of Europe and Britain would be fucked.

Why did so many British people become colonists? How harsh was the Crown of different faiths? Were laws really strict that they needed more lands for house prisoners? Were economic opportunities much better in a rural New World than the developed British isles?
How come none of the other empires (Spain, France, Portugal) had as many colonists in comparison? Did they kill their religious and political dissidents rather than tie them back to the crown? Or did Britian just hold onto their lands better and while the others abandoned their penal colonies?

Isn't there a quote that goes along the lines of: "British food, British women, and British weather, and thus a great nation of sailors was born"

In all seriousness though
1. Cheap land for farming and selling crops in north america
2. Prisoner in North America and Australia
3. In non white colonies whites would hold higher social standing such as India so greater prospects to be wealthy
4. Missionaries would often stay
5. And most importantly in comparison to other European colonialists British colonialists would take their families. Spanish conquistadors were just men whilst Brits in north america and Ireland where whole families.

Spain is empty bro.
Spain needed colonizers for Spain itself.
