militarised state founded on the premise of warring others.
>unlike all other states
Well you're wrong, but that's ok I guess. The Jin and Song were both powerful Chinese States capable of fielding large armies. They were largely weakened by internal conflict during the invasions though. The Xi Xia were also powerful, as were the khwarezmians. They also defeated a coalition of Russian city states as well as a large Hungarian army.
After all, Copts do. Not the majority of it but it is there significantly.

Are they really two specific individuals or a group of people whose exploits led them to be fused into a single heroic figure?

>If Arthur and Achilles were real...
THEY WERE REAL.
>Are they really two specific individuals or a group of people whose exploits led them to be fused into a single heroic figure?
THEY WERE TWO ACTUAL, AND MUTUALLY DIFFERENT AND DISTINCT INDIVIDUALS.
ري كظ R Y · Q V S S is correct.
There is historical evidence linked to each legend. Arthur was based on Riothamus with some other Romano-Briton memories thrown in like Camulodunum. Achilles may have been based on an actual figure who participated in the attack on Troas.

Ethnic conflicts brought on by arbitrary borders thread!
Hari Singh was born in the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, and ruled as the region’s last ever Maharaja. The decisions made by Maharaja Hari Singh during India’s move to independence remain enormously influential to the Kashmir dispute. As well, Singh’s difficult position as a Hindu leader over an ethnically Muslim and border-disputed state reveals the greater effect that arbitrary border-drawing has had on ethnically diverse regions since the decline of imperialism.
After the death of his father, the British took an interest in Singh. The early induction of Singh into the colonial system was likely seen as necessary by Britain to prevent any instability Singh could cause to the Indian colonies when he ascended to power. He was raised through the British school system and later trained at a British-run Imperial Cadet Corps. He was soon after appointed commander-in-chief of the state of Kashmir. Singh was a Hindu presiding over a Muslim majority, which resulted in a Muslim antipathy to his rule . However, during his rule he made primary education compulsory and prohibited child marriage. Singh’s greatest influence on the conflict was a result of his Hindu faith, as Pakistan thought he would accede to India. Under that impression, Pakistan invaded Jammu and Kashmir. Singh was forced to appeal to India for help. Singh writes in a letter to the Governor-General that “the wanton destruction of life and property has become difficult to stop” and “...Immediate assistance must be available if my state is to survive” . For military intervention from India to be legal, it was necessary that the Maharaja sign an “Instrument of Accession” and official join India. Thus began the first of three indo-Pakistani wars, signifying the beginning of major conflicts in the Kashmir region that continue to rage today.

Although present day India continues to affirm that Jammu and Kashmir is a legitimate and integral part of the country, it is clear that Singh’s decision to appeal and subsequently accede to India was coerced by the Pakistani invasion. It’s apparent that Hari Singh was in a position of unique influence to the region’s history, and that his belief in Hinduism acted as a catalyst for Pakistani aggression.
Additionally, the issues explored in Jammu and Kashmir are reflective of many other post-colonial regions. For example, at the Berlin Conference, and again after WWII, the European powers divided Africa into arbitrary jurisdictions to accommodate trade relations without the consideration of cultural geographies. Similarly, despite the collapse of the Soviet Union, The Ukraine still contains large chunks land inhabited by ethnic Russians, which is a major cause of conflict in the region. The political boundaries of Turkey and Syria encompass large ethnic groups of Kurds that are forced to continuously move around as a result of consistent oppression by the state. States in the developing world with conflicted borders are characterized by a high tendency for militarized fundamentalism. Developing states with diverse ethnic groups such as the Sunni and Shia Muslims in Iraq, or the Syrian Kurds, always appear to end up in conflict. Author Nilanjan Raghunath suggests that the diversity of populations has rendered “religious dogma the only effective unifying mechanism for dominant agencies of control ”, meaning that individuals in contested states are drawn to highly-focused religious factions such as ISIS or the Muslim Brotherhood in order to assert a geopolitical identity for themselves. These factions prevent the formation of a unified national imaginary, and consequently serve to decentralize and destabilize the state. ISIS claims that it wants the political boundaries of the Levant erased and replaced with a religious caliphate.

The prevention of a sense of nationalism thickens the lines between contesting ethnic groups and keeps the state disjointed so that the balance of power can be rearranged.
However, the drawing of political boundaries, although sometimes arbitrary, is necessary for geopolitical prosperity. The historical consequences of Hari Singh’s cross-cultural reign over an ethnically Muslim state reveal the common difficulties of trying to unify an ethnically opposed territory. The creation of a common nation enables people of a shared territory to collectively develop the economy, repel aggressor states, and be taken seriously by the international community. Developing countries with ethnic border-conflicts will continue to suffer socio-economic disparity until the idea of a unified nation triumphs over ethnic differences.

What would have happened if the Christians didn't kill the Romans?

Rome was already on the road to ruin, with massive inflation, horrid debt of the state and the populace, low fertility among the elites.
The old Roman polytheistic culture might have MAYBE create more of a 'seize the moment' style cut throat culture that could have encouraged more innovation. Maybe.
