Why do PC manufacturers always end up copying the worst aspects of Apple's products?
>ONE port (usb type c/thunderbolt)
>priced similarly to the Macbook (although it's impossible to truly compare because you can't equip them exactly the same, the Zenbook has a faster processor and can have more ram at a slightly better price, but the Macbook has a higher resolution screen and better battery life, so it mostly comes down to which you prefer more. Given that the point of these is to be as portable as possible and not be workhorses, imo the macbook has the advantage because of battery life and a better screen, but it's still a shitty value and I don't know why anyone would buy either)
>awful keyboard
You're asking a >>>/biz/ question.
Because it's easier to just copy Apple than come up with their own designs.
>>54863695
meh. it's still tech.
this board is 99% consumerism anyway.
Chairs are technolo/g/y. What chair does /g/ use or recommend?
I recommend a chair.
>>54863619
I should've been specific I guess. Office chairs.
>>54863736
I recommend not using an office chair, unless it's the one your employer provides you at your office.
You live in a home. Buy a chair for a home. They're padded, upholstered, stable and attractive. They don't stick to your body in the heat. There are no cheap plastic surfaces, no crummy pads which wear down over time. If you have hard floors then felt pads under the legs makes them plenty easy to slide around. There is no one-in-a-million chance of a gas cylinder malfunctioning directly into your anus.
Is Urbit the new TempleOS?
https://urbit.org/posts/overview/
As with any dangerous new technology, it's fortunate that Urbit is not yet fully armed and operational. It's our plan to introduce Martian computing gradually, to avoid producing serious social unrest.
...
The Earth software that's most like Martian software is, of course, Lisp. (Lisp claims to be based on lambda, but the connection is in fact dubious - a true lambda language is more like Haskell.) Nouns can be described as "S-expressions without the S" - that is, there are no symbols or other base types; atoms are completely typeless. Note that Rivest's IETF draft also makes this change, although he (a) defines his atoms as octet-strings, not unsigned integers; and (b) remains list-centric, not pair-centric.
Of course, an octet-string and an unsigned integer are the same thing. And by general convention and common decency, nouns are pair-centric. In Nock, it is bad form to stick unnecessary terminators on tuples. Or, as a Lisper would say, "improper lists." Other than these unfortunate articles of baggage, though, Rivest's draft has a lot of cool syntax, which could easily be adapted to nouns and probably should be - if just to quell the suspicion, perhaps already pregnant in your mind, that Urbit is really just the world's worst case of NIH syndrome.
>>54863549
Nobody will ever be able to use this shit nor templeos in a professional or even home computing environment fucking ever, this is worthless psychotic trash that won't amount to anything. Use a real OS like GNU, Mac or Windows, ones you can actually get shit done on.

Same things were said about GUI
>GUI isn't useful! Terminal rules!
Half of the physical objects around you were designed in Solidworks/Inventor/CATIA with a GUI, including cars and airplanes, and rockets.
Urbit is way too esoteric to be talked about on /g/, I've been following it a year and I can't say that I fully understand it.
My issue with it, is that, while stateless, there still no apparent transparency in its computations, which I believe is essential for sane single user computing.
Well, so Unity is now a totally money grab, unless you pay 1500$ a year you wont be able to get rid of their splash screen. That's how ridiculous it has become.
Thinking about switching to UDK or CryEngine, which one would you recommend?
>>54863278
its just a splash screen who cares?
>>54863325
It's not only about that. It's about how they increased their prices, while there are other engines out there (as mentioned, UDK or CE) that are better, and almost totally free.
>>54863278
They already had the splash screen shit before. The splash screen in my experience sets expectations because people have been burned by shitty Unity shovelware before. But paying $75/mo and being forced to subscribe for 12 months (in the old model) just to remove it is a really tough sell since there's no guarantee the game is going to make any money at all... I thought they would change to a more UE-like business model but instead they went even harder on the jewishness.
They only get away with it because they have better documentation and being C# you can get away with much more poo in loo-tier coding so anyone can use it. UE4 is better in every way except those.
hey /g/
So i finally have enough money to build a "real" desktop computer and Im an artist/animator thats fucking tired of slowdown and lagging when drawing curved lines, and the input lag where the lines show up half an hour after I draw them.
I know I should buy a high end graphics card and processor but what else?
Oh yeah you do? and what are you gonna do with it? let it pick up dust while you shitpost here?
>>54863268
i would probably use the computer I made to shit post instead of letting it "pick up dust" wouldnt i?
>>54863248
Lots of RAM.
Can I bypass a physical firewall similar to the one pictured? The company that makes them is called gateprotect.
I can't watch porn in my own house, and now, my university has started using it too so no watching porn there either. Any help /g/? I can get access to the physical machine where I live. Can I bypass it somehow?

Ubuntu is babby's first hipster OS, and I hate the repository, but try it out and if you like it move on to something else.
Sam Raimi - director of spiderman - just did a movie in 120fps 3D stereo. Reviewers said it was "the most futuristic shit they've ever seen".
Is 120fps 3D stereo the future they say it is, or is it another dead evolutionary path, another Dodo if you will?
>>54862796
so, you can look around as the movie plays? sounds like something targeting vr. it probably is the future, but nobody has the equipment yet

No, its not VR, its stereo 3D but at 120fps

Goddamit guys. Is there a web browser you don't constantly shit on?
Opera is the best. It's Chrome without Google shit, so it's supported everywhere. All (most) Chrome addons work.

Who gives a shit
Only retards shit on Firefox, it's still the only true alternative to the chrome cancer that is taking over everything.
Also Edge may be botnet but damn it's fucking and fast on my tablet. I tend to use it a lot more than Firefox now, thanks to my hosts file I don't see many ads anyway so I can make due without addons for the moment.

Welcome to /fglt/. We are always open to users of all levels, including absolute beginners.
There are four ways to try GNU/Linux, you can:
0) Install a GNU/Linux OS on a VM (Virtual Machine/VirtualBox) for "safety purposes"
1) Use the Live ISO directly without installing anything, that way, you can get a "full GNU/Linux experience".
2) Dual-boot GNU/Linux with Windows/Mac (recommended if you want to learn more about GNU/Linux)
3) Go balls deep and overwrite everything with GNU/Linux
Before asking, please search for answers to your questions in resources.
Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly GNU/Linux Thread.
Understand that much of your software from Windows will be unavailable, although maybe WINE can make up for it.
