How are your portable machines dealing with warm weather?
I just built a stand for mine out of LEGOs. Dropped 2°C
Put in fridge
My basement stays cool year-round
970 owners on suicide watch
it's only a taste of what's to come
>>55041321
don't worry, they all own 1080s now.
>>55041321
And? Most people who buy cards are fucking clueless and 970 is still fucking great in their minds. I will still be able to resell my 970 for almost half the price of 1070. I will be able to buy 1070 for a price of some low tier card. Feels good
What business-to-business companies should we all be thankful for?
We pay a lot of attention to business-to-consumer companies because we can readily see the products or software they make - but what about the companies we can't directly see the contributions of, and which do things like reduce costs for the end-consumer, provide logistical services, or do some other warm-and-fluffy things?
errr... ibm?

What does IBM do?
The company I work for. Automatic test equipment.
To list a few of our customers
>any device with resistors/capacitors/inductors(I should just end the list here already)
>any device with wifi
>intel/amd/nvidia
>electric car batteries
How many of you program on GNU/Linux for your job? What is your job description and salary?
>>55041303
i run cloud infrastructure for a videoconferencing product. i start in a few weeks but i'm guessing i'll be provisioning and setting up reproducible builds for servers, automating deployments and upgrades, writing scripts to run tasks and analyze logs and helping developers automate their build and test cycles
my offer was for 90k and i also get really good health insurance
i also do 1099 work for an AWS consultant in california - mostly migrating people's onsite applications into "the cloud" or helping early stage startups move from their initial software architecture to something cleaner and more scalable
i get paid 70/hr for that
it's maybe like 30% programming, 50% architecting and 20% sysops

>How many of you program on GNU/Linux for your job?
you can call it just linux, you dont need to fear old man stallman
I just use my linux for 4chan and porn. Do real work on Windows.
Why is Ubuntu such a steaming pile of shit.
Pictured: the installation process of Ubuntu Server
>>55041247
also why are Linux distributions so fucking slow to install?
Like, it takes 5 minutes to install Windows 7 (which I believe is mainly attributed to its good-made HAL)
Why don't just distribute a flat file that would be copied with dd automatically on the computer and let me decide later on if I wanna sudo apt-get update or if I want to install the drivers myself.
>>55041281
Arch
>>55041247
>the installation process of Ubuntu Server
It requires constant attention too. Type something in, wait a minute, select another thing, wait two minutes, .... until the end. Why can't they make it like on Windows, you select your shit BEFORE, then you wait 30 minutes, then you select something else AFTER the wait is done.
Also, "apt-get autoremove" will do the same shit when it removes 10 old kernels.
Kernel removed, regenerate
Kernel removed, regenerate
Kernel removed, regenerate
Kernel removed, regenerate
>You might need to reinstall Grub :^)
Who else here /blackberry/?
i'd buy priv but it's too expensive.

Enjoy your government botnet
Wait, is it still alive?
I remember it being hip back in 2006, with symbian around
After deleting all my online accounts to my name, if it doesn't appear on google searches, does it mean I successfully erased myself from the internet? Or can my activity be traced down by the respective authorities? Can google track me down and show the world what porn I used to browse in my teens?
You're going to jail.
>>55041238
No, you're just an autistic fuck who fell for the 'someone actually cares about your life' meme.
>>55041282
I know, but what if sometime in the future someone does? Even if it's all hypothetical , is the answer yes or no? I need to know

>>55040753
No biggy it's only used for debugging. MS is just looking out for us you paranoid neckbeard.
>>55040806
I thought it was only in release builds not the debugging? Or do i have that backwards
>>55040753
You can use gcc on windows. Theres dev cpp and codeblocks. You dont have to use microsofts shitty ide.
Any difference in types of mother boards g ?
Sockets, size, chipsets, features, connectors
So just places I can plug stuff in ?
Good mother boards already have stuff like sound cards and lan cards integrated so you don't need to buy them separately.
This is a socket 1366 motherboard. It supports 6 core hyper threaded CPUs, up to 24GB RAM, SATA 3 and USB 3, more PCI-E lanes than most modern consumer boards, power button on the mobo, clear cmos on the I/O and post LED On the board as well as 7 fan headers.
This is over 6 years old.
How far have we really come?
Not that far in terms of standards, but better quality im sure and more efficient
>>55040669
>SATA 3 and USB 3
you mean via pci right?
>>55040669
not to mention that floppy port. sort your shit out modern manufacturers
I want a good (widescreen?) CRT monitor for low motion blur for console gaming that I can order online and have shipped to the states. What do I buy? /v/ told me to post it here.

Been using Ubuntu and Arch. I feel Arch is much more simpler to use.
Why is ubuntu broken ootb?
>Panel dropdown menus won't stay
>Can't install simplescreenrecorder on the Live ISO
>Mouse pointer disappears in Xubuntu after screen is turned off by the power manager
>Still no Cinnamon
>Software center can't find k-apps, not even kdevelop. What's the point of GNOME only softwares? Why can it find VLC then?
>Ubuntu MATE and Xubuntu has 1px for resize area (video related)
>Kubuntu can't find system hardwares, default widget size on the desktop is too small to display the only one option "Install Kubuntu" COME ON
>adding nameservers in /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf,d/base won't work, but /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf,d/head will
>Internal error right after fresh install
>Checking "install flash" during installation doesn't really install ubuntu restricted flash
None of these problem exists on Arch. Once you install your shit, it'll just work. Does Canonical even care anymore or they got completely sold out?
>>55040514
I literally have none of these problems on Ubuntu, except for no cinnamon.
But who cares, mate is a great DE.
>>55040591
Can software center find kdevelop?
>>55040514
Because Ubuntu is for plebs, All memes aside Arch is the superior distro, The version of mate you have on Arch is new and Ubuntu wont have it in the repos for months.
Are you prepared?
