Will someone explain to me how exactly credit/debit cards and card machines work? You swipe the card and funds are taken out of your bank account. This blows my mind

You think we'll seriously have to wait until 2040s for either of those? We already have the first and I'm pretty sure we'll have consumer versions of the latter before next year is over.

http://windowsreport.com/bash-ubuntu-windows-10-updates/

Microsoft introduced a lot of improvements to Windows 10 Preview with the latest build 14361. A feature that probably received the highest number of changes is Bash on Ubuntu on Windows 10. Microsoft revealed a huge list of improvements for the Ubuntu Bash console of the Subsystem for Linux feature that will help Linux developers do an even better job now.

kek. There are no "Linux developers" that use windows for development, though.

If said devs are using anything other than Linux for development, it's OSX, which doesn't need a "Subsystem For Linux" just to run coreutils and the GNU Toolchain.
>>
>>55037485
>There are no "Linux developers" that use windows for development, though.

If I write webby shit that's deployed solely to Linux servers, how am I not a "Linux developer"? Seems vague to me, and your argument looks like Gran Autismo semantic whining.

>Ubuntu Bash on Win 10
>All of the drawbacks of a VM with none of the benefits

I seriously do not see the point of this, aside from churning retarded tech "journalism".
>>
>>55037668
It's not my "argument", and not my choice of words; I pulled them from the article.

Ever since their announcement months ago, they've hyped the "use *nix cli tools natively on windows" angle in articles. I guess they coin "Linux Developers" as devs that venture outside of Visual Studio and use 3rd party tools within terminals as a part of the development process.

I do agree with you though:

I used Sakura for many years. These days, I don't care about what terminal emulator I use anymore, as long as the fonts are readable.

Though there was nothing special about Sakura. It just used libvte and GTK and was okay.

I got graduation money to spend. VR headsets are cool, but the whole DRM thing makes me reluctant to buy until that's all figured out. The Asus PG279Q monitor is cool, but there are QC issues, 4K seems to be the way things are headed, and nothing can push 144+ Hz at 1440p anyway. What do I buy, /g/?

locked multipliers, but on a bunch of Xeon motherboards you can link CPU clusters

theoretically with a GPU it would be more powerful than your average gaymer desktop but it would be a waste of power and time if you are economic and you are running it from home.

Once again, I make this humble request.

Does anyone have any actual numbers for the GPU units sold by AMD and Nvidia?

How many GTX 970s were sold so far? How many 980s?

If you took all of the discrete GPUs priced over $100 sold in the last 3 years would it even total over 1 million units?
16 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
One way to get a basic idea of the sales numbers is to look at sales of games.

Metal Gear Solid V on steam has about 917,251 owners. The Witcher III has about 1.3 million.

Anyone who owns these games probably owns a fairly decent discrete GPU. It might be possibly to play them on integrated graphics, but not very well.

http://steamspy.com/app/287700

But the owners of these games could have cards that go back more than three years. You could play Metal Gear Solid V on a GTX 460, and probably even older hardware.

This has been wracking my brain for a while... How the fuck do I explain to a normal person that a CPU's performance is more than simply whatever the clock speed is?

Can anyone help me come up with some analogies that'd help them understand the different variables involve (e.g., hyperthreading/pipelning of instructions)? I can't think of any good ones because there's too many factors. Plus I am dumb.

>>55035370
tell them clock speed is how many times a drummer hits the drum
tell them ipc is how many hits he can do whenever his arms go down
tell them multi-core is having two+ drummers and two+ drumsets
tell them hyperthreading is having two drummers and a single drumset
>>
>>55035452
But that's still equating the clock for performance, isn't it?

What if they ask "What if you take an old-ass Pentium III and just click it to 5 GHz?"
>>
>>55035497
it isn't.
1ghz core with ipc of 5 is just as fast as a 5ghz core with ipc 1.
