Welcome to /fglt/. We are always open to users of all levels, including absolute beginners.

There are four ways to try GNU/Linux, you can:

0) Install a GNU/Linux OS on a VM (Virtual Machine/VirtualBox) for "safety purposes"
1) Use the Live ISO directly without installing anything, that way, you can get a "full GNU/Linux experience".
2) Dual-boot GNU/Linux with Windows/Mac (recommended if you want to learn more about GNU/Linux)
3) Go balls deep and overwrite everything with GNU/Linux

Before asking, please search for answers to your questions in resources.

Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly GNU/Linux Thread.

Understand that much of your software from Windows will be unavailable, although maybe WINE can make up for it.

IRC connection details:
Server: chat.freenode.net:6667 (no SSL, 6697 for SSL) - Channel: #flt
If you don't have an IRC client (which you should), go to https://kiwiirc.com/client/irc.freenode.net/flt to use IRC on a web client.

Visit the Friendly GNU/Linux Thread/Website:

double left mouse clicks to open a folder/file doesn't work on my deepin. what do?
it works on the thinkpad's left click thingy though.
>>
How do I get rid of the screen in the beginning that asks me to boot to windows or puppy? I don't even have windows installed so I absolutely hate this screen.
>>
>>55044531
that screen is the bootloader GRUB. I don't know if it's even possible to remove it, but it's generally a good idea to keep it in case you have trouble booting.
Instead of removing it you can edit the file /etc/default/grub with superuser priviledges and change the value of GRUB_TIMEOUT to 0. Afterwards you need to update GRUB, in Ubuntu I believe the command is "sudo update-grub", in Fedora it is "sudo grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg". Better search for instructions for your specific distro if you are not sure.

should i switch from my old crappy Logitech given for free from a friend (that now sadly uses only razer gaymen shit) to a I-guess-better Logitech MX master? i really like the design and fit

i hope you're talkin about the second one, 'cause I feel kinda the same
>>
I have had the MX Master. I want to be completely honest: I tried to like it, a lot. I wanted to justify the cost and manage to appreciate it fully, but I kept switching back to my G400s. Damn this thing is one of the best mice ever built.
I'm not a lot of a gaymur myself, I program or study most of my time, and I can tell you gaming mice are the comfiest for everything. Try to avoid the edgy/transformery looking ones, they're almost always shit. I'd go for something in the line of the razer deathadder or the G400s itself.

Remember the following:
>staff occasionally read these generals and have posted here before
>staff may pretend to be normal users asking for invites and when you invite them, they ban you for inviting strangers
>sneaky bastards will try to convince you into believing that cheating can be evaded, it can't and you will be banned with those bastards laughing at you
>people may report emails and other personal info posted here to staff to get you banned
>most of the invite offers here are people trolling you with false hope - begging for invites is a waste of time and you should just interview at What.cd

I never bothered to ask in the ptp irc why my account was disabled, but i'm kind of glad. It's one less page to obsessively refresh for new releases.
Plus this way I'm forced to wait for AHD internal remuxes/encodes.

If all you care about is the emulation, just get a PSP. You should be able to find one easily under $50 at your local pawn shop. Even the 3000 series are all permanently flashable now and you can get an adapter off amazon to use normal microSD cards in it. I've used up to 32GB and I've heard tell of people using even 128GB cards with no issues.

I love my pebble time. Wouldn't go for anything with less than 5 day battery life.
Notifications on my wrist are an unnecessary luxury, but it is nice having my phone constantly on silent, and being alerted by a friendly buzz on the wrist.
Step and sleep tracking is also lovely.
