Hi guys I built this to try and find my old gaming buddies back from the early TFC 1 and Jedi Knight days.
As you can see I just put it online, if you want to add yourselves you might find your old friends , after all you are probably browsing /vg alongside them.
Any feedback EG features, are welcome.

*assuming you ever browse /vg/ which I am now thinking you maybe dont, but I am sure most of you played online games a while back and have lost touch with your buddies right?
Specifically I was hoping for advice. Is there any way I could help build the list by querying a DB somewhere?
>>55254353
thats a cool idea, ive never played video games so i have no idea if there already is something like that out there but if there isnt i think some people might even want to use that
Does anyone else think that there should be some sort of license to purchase/own a computer?
I have a friend who doesn't know what version of Windows his on, eventhough there's Windows 7 logo everytime he boot his computer.
Bump for civil conversations.
Yes. I also think everything in society should be divided by people's IQ, EI, and accomplishments.
Not really
See misusing a computer worst case scenario you destroy your computer. You cant seriously harm yourself or anyone else. Unlike things you need a license for, a gun, a car. a chainsaw.
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2016/06/federal-court-fourth-amendment-does-not-protect-your-home-computer
>In a dangerously flawed decision unsealed today, a federal district court in Virginia ruled that a criminal defendant has no “reasonable expectation of privacy” in his personal computer, located inside his home. According to the court, the federal government does not need a warrant to hack into an individual's computer.
>This decision is the latest in, and perhaps the culmination of, a series of troubling decisions in prosecutions stemming from the FBI’s investigation of Playpen—a Tor hidden services site hosting child pornography. The FBI seized the server hosting the site in 2014, but continued to operate the site and serve malware to thousands of visitors that logged into the site. The malware located certain identifying information (e.g., MAC address, operating system, the computer’s “Host name”; etc) on the attacked computer and sent that information back to the FBI. There are hundreds of prosecutions, pending across the country, stemming from this investigation.
>Courts overseeing these cases have struggled to apply traditional rules of criminal procedure and constitutional law to the technology at issue.

They had warrants, and your IP is not a private document.

If GNU/Linux is so great, why does it only have 1% marketshare? Why couldn't Valve convince gaymers to switch over with the miserable failure that was SteamOS and Steam Machines.
>>55254277
Because Linux is shit.
Manufacturers already tried putting the Linux meme on their PC's and nobody bought them and the ones that did returned them.
How can something that costs nothing have a marketshare?
>>55254277
Linux is way more than 1%, we just had to drop GNU first.
redpill me on windows 10 /g/. is there any reason i shouldn't upgrade when i'm not autistically afraid of my anonymous data, i don't create content using microsoft's shitty programs, and when every windows interface ends up being easy as fuck to use once you stop REEing at how much it isn't XP?
There is no reason you should not upgrade. Just sign in using a local account.
Windows 10 can be great, or it can cause a lot of problems, plus the forced updates can literally be broken in wich case you're fucked.
I've updated and I deeply regret it.

Hello. Can anyone tell me how well GPU passthrough actually works? I dont have two gpu's but im going to get a new one this christmas when i have an excuse. anyone tried from linux to windows specifically? with amd hardware, specifically an fx-6300 and an r7 250x? i know i have poor shit, and i use manjaro so feel free to fuck with me on that front but otherwise id like to hear some horror stories or success stories about gpu passthrough
You're better off dual booting.
Passthrough is only useful for hardware like disks.
>>55254182
To much of a pain in the ass.
Just dual boot for your gaymes
I believe you need mobo, CPU and GPU all passthrough-able, with Intel VT-x and VT-d in order to do pci passthrough. Basically a whole server setup. You might also need a low-level hypervisor. I was looking to pass through my GPU to a virtual hackintosh to play an old game, but it ended up easier to build a real hackintosh..
Is it possible for someone who only has extremely basic knowledge of coding to be able to optimize Gentoo for whatever they want to use it for?
What does this even mean?
>>55254518
>how much autistic i should be for using gentoo?
something like that
>>55254160
Yes, this is the one case in which a meme was true. Gentoo can do litterally anything. Just ask me and I'll list all of it's virtues.
Does /g/ have a tv buying guide or opinion on TVs in general?
Mine just broke.
>>55253983
Any TVs these days that use good panels are invariably going to be "smart" TVs. You simply can't avoid them if you want a high quality display.
So be sure to use a Roku, or Shield or HTPC or whatever instead, as those "smart" features are horseshit.
>>55254109
I already have a roku from my broken dumb tv. So I plan to keep using it. I will never connect my TV to the internet, thats asinine.

How to fix overheating GPU?
I cleared all the dust out of my PC and blew on my GPU fan (didn't see any dust in it though)
I also installed MSI afterburner and turned the fan speed up to max.
When gaming it eventually ends up going over 100 degrees C, then my PC shuts down.
Pic related, have a EVGA GTX 570
Fermi was a mistake.
Try undervolting and downclocking?
>>55253999
I could do that but it's not exactly a powerhouse GPU as is. I'm considering buying a new one
>>55253982
>fix overheating
>Fermi
Yeah, there is no way. I went from a 560 Ti to a 780 and my temps dropped dramatically while getting higher performance.
You can't fix Fermi, you can merely move away from it to whatever you can afford from nVidia or AMD.
>W10 doesn't come with XP Mode
>Someone figured out a workaround using Hyper-V
>But there's no way to use audio/video devices on the host machine
Is there a reason why Microsoft is hellbent on keeping me from playing my old games?
>>55253963
They say it doesn't make business sense, they can't make money on it.
They have a deep fear that the market for retro games will not cover the cost of the development and an even bigger fear that large customer bases will use such tools to revert to old infrastructures which they can't effectively get paid for. Kind of arguable as how much would they have made if people kept using windows 95 with office 95, because they sure as heck didn't charge enough to cover 20 years of operating costs on a single product sale, even if they charged that much no one would pay.
Real world business is sad, cause I know I would pay a few bucks to play my old stuff. Setup it up like Steam with low overhead and someone could make something if it becomes popular, and they get the licensing rights to even try it. Original artist licensing rights is another puzzle piece that make this a very complex and messy issue nobody wants to mess with.
>>55253963
Wine and Linux are better for retro Windows games than Windows is.
My favorite feature is being able to emulate the desktop for games that use weird full screen resolutions like 1600x1200.
>>55254441
>>55254485
Would you have any advice for getting the old Every Extend demo running? Fuck, I'd love to play that typing game again (and all the weirdo edutainment games from that era), but this thing in particular wouldn't even be subject to a Steam-style system since it's freeware. There's literally no incentive to support it, so it's up to users to find a way. Maybe I just have to find an old PC and spin it up.
