How long until I can power my house with solar power by spending less than 1.5k dollars on the installation?
Never until solar panel installation becomes a profitable thing.
>>55251879
Never, but the good news is that electricity prices will skyrocket if electric cars become a thing, so you should get a solar panel system before everyone else does.
>>55251879
Never. The powers that be want you hooked to their power grid forever. They don't want you to be independent.
let's write a entire os kernel in pure python line by line. Just do It! I'll start:import sys
>>55251669
If python needs an interpreter, I don't think you can
sys.exit()
>>55251688
this
>os kernel
>import sys
ur doin it wrong
So if I understand correctly, the refresh rate will ultimately decide how many fps will be actually displayed. I.e.g a 60hz display will never display more than 60fps, even if the game or application outputs a higher fps.
Allegedly, 4K TVs claim to have refresh rates up to 240hz and beyond, but these are often enhancements after the fact to make the image appear smoother even if the actual refresh rate is lower. Some say they can not actually display more than 50-60hz at this point.
Then the question is, for someone who want a gaming setup with the smoothest experience and best framerate, is 4K gaming futile at this point? Should one stick with 1080p until displays reach 120hz of actual refresh rate?
Thoughts on refresh rate bottleneck please.
1440p 144hz is the sweetspot right now.

Why aren't you guys Hackinoshing yet?
>UNIX
>Compatible with your favorite software
>No hardware with a ridiculous hardware
>Easy to setup on modern hardware
>>55251547
>UNIX
No.
Also because unsupported shit is annoying to deal with. I don't want to run into an issue and only be able to HOPE to find some broken English solution on tonymacx86 or whatever.
>>55251547
>Easy to setup on modern hardware
That's wrong. There is so much to fuck up. I would do it but it really takes time to set everything up. Even worse than ArchLinux.
>>55251565
It took me hald a day to setup everything and it has been working flawlessly for over 6 months with 2 .x updates already.
Is AM1 getting some love from zen or should I just buy one right now?
I will use it as HTPC + seedbox/homeserver
zen is am4
>>55251389
Am1 was pretty much DOA, it won't be getting any updates.
Iirc there was an athlon 5370 but that's it.
Why not one of those celery boards from newegg instead? Similar price but lower power consumption and better performance.
>>55251427
>celery boards
Do you mean the integrated ones?
Because 5150 + mobo is 60 and the celeron ones are 90
How do you use a 4k desktop? Do you just manually place windows around the screen?
Is there special software you can use to partition up the screen so that when you maximize a window it'll only take up a portion of the screen instead of all of it?
I think the most idiotic thing you could do with a resolution this big is just maximize your webbrowser over it. It sounds like such a waste of space to me.

So, is the jist of this to have effectively the same amount of screen space as you would on a 1080p display, except double the amount of pixels for better clarity?
When will 1366x768 stop being a standard on laptops? Even 1080p is dated now
>>55251218
never
>>55251218
What's wrong with 1366x768?
Can't you afford anything better?
>>55251218
you can buy cheap laptops with 1080p screens... what exactly are you complaining about/
Hey /g/, I am building a budget pc. I will also do some amateur video editing so i will take 16 gigs of ram.
>Intel Core i3 6098P 3.6 ghz
>Asus gtx 950 2gb 128 bit
>2x8gb 2133mhz kingston
and a motherboard that is compatible with these
what do you guys think? what would you change?

Has anyone ever met a software engineer with a few years under their belt who wasn't a bitter asshole? It seems to be almost a requirement at this point.
Depends on the person. You're just meeting shit people.
STEM majors are losers with no social skills, so it's inevitable that they turn out like that.

In what ways can you specialize as a JavaScript developer?
Can you be a "D3 data visualization expert"?
Or purely a "Node.js / React" server-side JS developer?
Make up a position and tell startups that they need your expertise in said position. Someone will hire you.

Started saving for a new laptop, but I'm not sure what to buy, I want it to be good at:
>Gentoo
>Developing GPU intensive programs
>Battery time
>maybe a decent keyboard
>Dota2
I don't want key backlight, and I don't care too much about large amounts of memory, but I wan't the available memory to be fast.
Battery time being one of the most important things I want, I looked at LG Gram, and I think the worst thing about it is the average battery time.
As for price, I'm willing to go up to 2K euros.
Thanks in advance.
Xps 15 with a configuration as high as your money can get you.
>>55251156
Definately going to consider this one, any more ideas?
>>55251156
Wish it didn't come with windows 10 as a must though... I don't want to give microsoft any more of my money.
If windows 10 didn't have all the spying stuff would it be the best windows ever?
I don't care about the spying stuff because most of it is fud.
I don't like that I cant disable defender or updates..

no, it would still be worse than 8.1 and 7

The UI is inconsistent and the fucking network manager bugs out every other time.
Obsolete technology.

Microsoft Windows
>>55251073
My HTPC has a dedicated GPU for 1080p and 4k playback.
The CPU could probably manage to do 1080p by itself, but 4k is a stuttery mess without a GTX 960 (dat sweet sweet hardware decoding)
