Try something: open a terminal window and start a ping on the local IP address of your router. Leave it running. Come back in 10 minutes and let me know if that did anything.

How would you recommend someone go about learning to develop (apps) for android? What environment would you use?
>>55261765
Se the Big Nerd Ranch book, is pretty good to get you started.
For the environment is almost the same on win10 and Ubuntu (In both cases using Android Studio)
You need to be familiar with Java tho.
>>55261834
I know C++, but it doesn't seem as good a language as Java for Android dev. Do you know of any good Java resources, or even better, stuff that focuses on Java for Android?
Download xamarin studio/visual studio's version of built in xamarin. You can make apps with c#, f#, visual basic, etc. I've been doing all my app development this year in C# and xamarin is a great platform for it, and it's super easy to customize. Looks just like a Java app and way easier and less convoluted than Java development. Android studio isn't too bad though. But there are plenty of tutorials for c# and Java.

Man, /g/, I'm about to drop some serious cash to get this HP Elitebook 2740p. I'm in love with the way this thing looks. Square, and bulky.
Is it a wiser choice than getting a Thinkpad?
>HP
Get a CF-19 or the new convertible toughbooks instead.
>>55261431
I like elitebooks more than thinkpads but they won't give you any meme-cred on /g/.

Hey /G/ I asked this over on /V/ and they directed me here. I am currently using a laptop for "Hardcore gaming" I know it's bad especially since I run most games medium. So my question is what is the cheapest rig I can build for 1080p 60fps on ultra settings for gaming?
>>55261261
Use the sticky at the top, logical increments is a good way to buy balanced parts and give you an idea on your budget.
Also use PC Part Picker, its a good website for coming up with your build with prices from online retailers.
Off the top of my head I'd say an i5 is pretty damn good for everything without being too expensive, but if you have a tighter budget AMD might be a good choice.
As far as GPU is concerned, you're in a very good spot as AMD is releasing a VR capable card for 200 dollars very soon. It can handle 1080p at 60fps no problem for sure.
Get the fuck out you manchild. /v/ is cancer.

When was the AUX cord invented and why does nobody seem to know the answer?

It's a patch cord and it was invented when the minijack was invented.

>Auxiliary Cable
>AUX doesn't refer to any specific cable
Literally it can be a TRS mini (1/8") to anything. It can be a 1/4" TRS to anything if used in an aux way (for example aux send from a board to a piece of outboard gear)
What specific cable are you asking about? Because it would be significantly fucking easier to answer your question instead of shitposting
What is better

How good are you guys at programming interviews? I feel like no matter how much I study I get tripped up on everything even though I've written a lot of software.
Why are only programming interviews like this? I don't know any other engineering discipline that has to deal with this sort of stuff
I'm so bad at software interviews in general that I'm even looking at a career change. Its like with every other discipline if you are looking for a job you can apply and take a day off for the interview
But with software you need to (depending on you) spend week or months preparing for interviews, especially with the bigger SV companies. There are even lessons and courses dedicated JUST to passing them.
What the fuck is that even about? It seems wrong. And the cynic in me thinks that they (the bigger companies) are making software interviews involve tons of prep time and effort to make it harder for existing CS or SEs to easily interview at other places.
Where's the hackerrank for electrical engineers? Where's the leetcode for aeros or mechies? The geeksforgeeks for chem and sci majors? The CTCI for automotive engs?
Still have to have my first CS interview. Hope it's not as hard as you make it out to be
>>55260972
Because you still copy code from rapidtables and you're unable to fizzbuzz

Not that hard just practice and say it with confidence.
So what makes Windows Executables unable to run on Linux? Aren't the instructions x86 for both of the oses? What would need to be modified in Linux to make windows executables work? I assume it's more than just copying over the dlls from Windows, but what specifically is stopping someone from making a distro that can run exes?
Different binary formats. Different ABI: calling conventions, incompatible syscalls. Does the caller or called clean up the stack? How many arguments are passed through registers?
Even if they had the same syscall convention: NT syscall 0x60 is NtAcceptConnectPort, Linux syscall 0x60 is gettimeofday.
Regardless, Wine doesn't need to change the kernel to achieve good compatibility (better than newer Windows in some cases).
>>55261061
So what's stopping some cool /g/uy from changing the Linux source code to be compatible with what exe's need? A FOSS OS that runs windows exe's seems like it's be a pretty cool thing
>>55261290
Wine basically does that and without changing Linux.
how to be completely anonymous? do free VPN's work that well? for downloading torrents and being hidden from the all seeing eye.
Internet isnt made to be completely anonymous. best you can do if you care about security and privacy is to only stay on deep web.
and free vpn's are terrible.
torrenting through a free vpn is going to be your worst experience since the 56k era
thankfully it won't last long since they'll cut you off for torrenting
