I work in a place with sudden machine noises. The noises are not high enough to use hearing protection but we do it anyway because the unpredictable nature of the noise make active noise reduction useless. Hearing protection (passive noise cancelling) work much better at cancelling these noises.
Are there any headphones with good passive hearing-protection-like noise cancelling?

How to store shitload of small numbers in database most effectively? I am building school management system where teachers put students' grades and in big schools it would be a lot of it. Grade is a number from 1 to 6 so pretty small numbers. Would it be better to store it in some CSV file or still insert into database?

I have no big issue with using chrome or Windows 10. But using duckduckgo in combination with those is retarded because you're not hiding your info in any way still, from Google or Microsoft (and in turn Bing)

Short story here. Got Mi band 1s. Lost the "chip part" from it yesterday. I went to town going the way I walked that day and scanned the surroundings with low energy bluetooth scanner. Got lots of signals but no mi1s. On the way back suddenly "mi1s" blips on the screen for few seconds. The location was just some 50 meters next to where I walked yesterday. Went around that location but I got the signal no longer. The mac adress had the same beginning but different ending from what I have in my profile in mi band app.
So just to confirm with you guys, mac adress can not be changed so easily right ? That probably wasnt my band huh ?

It's time for me to reinstall a distro onto my laptop, and I need help picking a good distro. I am currently using Xubuntu, for it's good support, ease of use (installing drivers, being Debian based, etc). However I am thinking about switching to something else. Sometimes the packages that control the WiFi applet don't come on at boot, as well as random errors on boot a few times after upgrading to 16.04 LTS. Anyways I am currently looking for recommendations for a new OS. Something very solid at its core, but still with access to bleeding edge packages, if you know what I mean. As well as good driver support. I like the ability to install .deb packages or .rpm however as long as I can get all the same software in another distro (looking at Manjaro) then I'm all ears. Thanks.
Here is my current situation. Would probably set up the new install in a similar way (Compiz + Emerald + XFCE).
However I have realized XFCE sucks so also looking out for new DEs. Tell me what's up. Cinnamon, Mate, GNOME (shit), KDE (idk about this one actually)... Just point me towards the good distros

Someone payed me 50 bucks to help them get past login screen on their laptop they forgot their password to..
I figured I would just reinstall windows but since they only have USB 3.0 ports on the laptop i cant go forward with USB installation because it doesnt have 3.0 drivers on it
thats the extent on my computer hacks really... just reinstalling the OS
is there any other way to bypass windows 7 password screen other than reinstalling OS?

China Claims World’s Most Powerful Supercomputer 7th Year In A Row
China has been named the home of the fastest supercomputer for the 7th year in a row.
But for the first time, and what makes this year’s choice unique, is the fact that this year’s winning computer has won using only Chinese designed processors.
The computer based in the National Supercomputing Center in Wuxi, and named Sunway TaihuLight was designed and developed by the Chinese National Research Center of Parallel Computer Engineering & Technology.
With an ability to process 93 petaflops that also makes it just about three times faster than the previous record setter, the Tianhe-2, also Chinese, which was clocked at being able to process 33.85 petaflops.
The TaihuLight can perform approximately a quadrillion calculations a second, which is much faster than the Tianhe-2, built with US designed processors can achieve. In theory, the TaihuLight could achieve peak a peak performance of 124 petaflops.
That China has been trying to develop a 100 petaflop system (or close enough for it not to really matter) isn’t exactly new, well, news, but it was widely anticipated that the Chinese would use US based Intel company chips to reach the fabled 100 petaflop barrier.

The US has 165, China has 167.
Other countries to make the top 10 included Japan, Germany, Switzerland, and Saudi Arabia.

If anything, the US's schizophrenic, paranoid foreign policies have just helped speed up Chinese advanced tech development and adoption, and caused the US lose quite a contract and gain competitors.

What are the best DAWs for GNU? I've got a friend who's really into making music and doesn't want to stop using Windows for this reason. I'm also somewhat interested in making music myself. If I could make a little tune and show him the alternative program while actually understanding it, that could help a lot.

I'm about to build a new PC on a budget. With all the shitposting going on, I wanted to make a thread with as little faggotry as possible.
I don't plan on overclocking, and I don't want to wait weeks for non-reference models. Will an RX 480 reference card be decent enough? I realize it's not a high end card, it just seems like despite all the shit it's getting on /g/ it's still a good value/performance card for 1080p
