I work in a place with sudden machine noises. The noises are not high enough to use hearing protection but we do it anyway because the unpredictable nature of the noise make active noise reduction useless. Hearing protection (passive noise cancelling) work much better at cancelling these noises.
Are there any headphones with good passive hearing-protection-like noise cancelling?

These words don't go together. If it's passive, it's just isolation, cancellation is a system response to input stimulus.

They isolate fairly well because they clamp hard.
Any decent plugs with as soft as possible plastic caps will do the job :^)
