Does it still make sense to build a computer if you're not gaming or using any resource intensive programs?
yes.
>>55855550
not really. that's why the desktop market is kill. because you might as well buy a laptop
>>55855550
lol buy a macbook retard
Any of you guys hear what happened to HP UKs webstore the other day? I ordered a laptop and haven't heard any more about it, looked all over the place and it's as if it never happened. (Laptops that were £3k were dropped to around £1-3) If anyone has any info then that would be great!
It got cancelled ofc. Maybe they will sent you a letter about it, maybe not.
>>55855517
I checked the order with the order number through their website and it has been accepted and has an estimated delivery date, was just curious if HP had made a statement that anyone knows about.
>>55855501
Mine got cancelled. Yours will too
Sup /g/, i need some help here. I'm trying to take ownership of some encrypted files that i've moved from my windows 7.
i've already tried to use this method
http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3841-take-ownership-add-context-menu-windows-10-a.html
Even after i ''took'' the ownership, i cant open or move any file in that folder.
What on earth should i do?
Up
You need the encryption key. When you encrypted the files on Windows 7 you were warned to backup the key so you could recover your files in the future. You are offered to save said key at that time.
The solution is to go get the encryption key you surely saved in a safe location and feed it into your current system. Taking ownership of the files is completely unrelated to their encryption.
Ok, now if i lost my encryption key...?
Hi /t/

No shit, what do you think this post is about?
>not using a complicated assortment of random letters, numbers and symbols
what are you, a Democrat?
>>55855368
It's possible for a leak to expose your email and account password for a given account. Did you use a unique password? Did you also use that unique password for your filthy smut accounts? Hope you never get into politics, anon...
So I bought one of these raspberry pi "computers" and it only has one usb port wtf?
How can you call something a computer when I can't even plug my keyboard and mouse into it at the same time?
>>55855359
Nice bait
>>55855359
You don't have a usb hub?
You don't have a wireless k/m that shares the dongle?
>using a mouse
is fortran the future of high-performance computing?
No, Erlang is, since distributed parallelism is the future
>>55855342
If that C program had been produced with Intel's compiler, its performance in comparison to the Fortran program likely would have been the same.
quantum mechanics, and specifically quantum entanglement (although quantum computing is a step in the right direction its kind of comparable to the oldschool, room-sized punchcard computers of the 70s in terms of its potential), is the future of high performance computing
http://www.livescience.com/28550-how-quantum-entanglement-works-infographic.html
Once this gets studied more and extrapolated, I predict the days of internet as we now know it will be changed radically. Data transfers will be (literally) instant. Or at least once you're connected to a host there will be no lag between you and it. Who knows, maybe one day with this combined with 3d printing advancements you might actually be able to download a car
What does it mean to be a windows 'super user'?

>Actions announces S900VR, which is S905 with native USB 3.0 interface
>ODROID-C2+ will use S900VR and add two USB 3.0 ports
>the price will remain the same
Will you upgrade to ODROID-C2+?
Um no, I'm not a stinky dweeb like you.
why pay $40 for that when a $30 chinkbox has the same hardware and specs
>>55855229 Usb3, gbit, emmc, 2gb ram, 4k with the same shitty arm cpu. Why? 10-15$ orange pi will be just a bit slower but much cheaper.
Hey, /g/. Lurker here, I was curious if any of you had chromebooks that you felt were worth the purchase. I need a small laptop for uni classes, so I can write/read documents and program in class. I've got somewhere from 200 to 400 dollars that I could spend on it but obviously cheaper is better, I don't really see the need to spend a lot of money. I need a thin and light one, which is why I don't want a better laptop
Are chromebooks just a meme? I was going to install debian or mint on one. Should I just buy a thin laptop instead?

What happened to using a notebook and a pen? You can't go to school without a laptop anymore these days?

What happened to using a scroll and a quill? you can't go to school without a notebook and a pen anymore these days?
>>55855243
I do that already. I can't program with that though, and my heavy broken laptop that I am using to post this is on its last legs. 8 years, I think we've been together. Sad days.
>I fell for the 4k TV meme
>>55855156
Too soon. Give it 3 more years, and it will begin becoming more useful, as more content pours in. Right now - you dun goof'd.
Is there even a single bit of 4k on tv right now?
>>55855231
not at all but there's 4k porn I guess
hey guys! heard about these things on r/technology and decided to buy one!
only problem is i dont know what to do with it. can you give me ideas?

Is there some flavour of Linux I can run on a Pi that uses a random encryption key generated on boot so all of its persistent data is trashed in the case of any power outage?
Hey /g/ I just bought nine Rapberry Pis what are some cool projects you can do with them?

Are there any existing or upcoming operating systems that have compatibility with programs not targeted towards the operating system?
>>55854990
yes
>>55854990
If you mean for binary compatibility, ReactOS can run Windows binaries, FreeBSD, OpenBSD and NetBSD have some kind of Linux binary compatibility layer, Windows 10 is apparently adding something for running Linux binaries and most POSIX systems can run Windows binaries with Wine.
>>55855047
Hmm, ReactOS kind of ended up flopping though from what I hear.
Their site isn't even up right now.
