before anything, consider me an illiterate user in terms of audio / sound I've never used anything better than say... the headphones that come with an iPhone or shit tier beats (for short periods of time) i get all of my music from YouTube (youtube to mp3) what is the difference between the different file types (I've only used .mp3 to my knowledge) as well as difference between headphone types ie bassy/v/balanced/neutral

I'm genuinely curious, teach me your ways /g/entards
bonus:
looking for a pair of iem around $50 w/ in line mic (otherwise I'll ask /hpg/)
thanks
You don't need iems to listen to ripped mp3, don't waste your money.
>>55955787
but what's the difference and my current earbuds are taking a shit and need to be replaced, i was looking at the soundmagic e10c
mp3 is the most common file format of audio, and if this is at a high enough bitrate it is usually fine. However, if you get it from YouTube to mp3 the bitrate (think of this as quality) will be pretty low, and it is noticeable usually. I mentioned that this is lossless, which means every time you copy the files or move them in any way, the quality of the new files has degraded compared to the original.
Think of this as jpeg images vs png. As jpg's are shared and sent around the internet, the image quality gets worse and worse, eventually ending up in artifacting which is EXTREMELY noticeable.
The most common alternative to mp3 is FLAC, which stand for Free Lossless Audio Codec. This is the png equivalent in terms of audio, since the audio files will not degrade in quality over time. The issues with FLAC, however, are that each song will take up much more space than the mp3 version, and it is also harder to find songs in this format.
tl;dr download your mp3's in 320kbps nitrate and only download FLAC if you have a ton of empty storage space and very high end audio equipment.

can anyone go to that .onion page and check it out?
When was the last time you installed a new distro? What was it? Why wasn't it Debian?
Newly bought thinkpad t430 here w/ a fresh installation of master race Debian.

It seems apps is the generic word for software now... Even websites are web apps now...
I can't live without visual-studio anymore, it's the only viable IDE in this universe.

How to avoid being tortured for the key to your AES, no matter how fancy you are at hiding the key they will beat it out of you, you need to make it actually impossible to give it up. Not security through obscurity.
Here is my idea

I need help, so I just bought a Utopia VR from best buy because they didn't have the Gear VR. The workers there said that it could run anything from the Oculus VR app... Obviously that isn't true, but I took their word on it. So how do I get my phone to think that it's plugged into a Gear VR when really it's just resting in a better version of cardboard? Is that even possible? Thanks for your help /g/

return this PoS
I know this isn't /wrs/, but I've tried asking this there and nobody responded. I've basically been working on this java program for the last six hours and I want to blow my brains out.
The main problem I have is that I really have no idea how to call a value from a method into main. I know that you can "return" a value, but I have no idea where the value is returned to or how to store it as a variable. Anytime I touch the arguments in the main method, it just shits the bed and gets weird.
Everything I've googled on stack overflow / code ranch leads nowhere.
This is pretty much a shot in the dark, but this is my last resort.
Post your code here so we can laugh at you while we help you
I think this problem is not related to your Java knowledge but to your general programming knowledge.
Look around google about how functions work and optimally get a book on Objected Oriented Programming.String functionReturned = doSomething();
> Post your code here so we can laugh at you while we help you
>I think this problem is not related to your Java knowledge but to your general programming knowledge.
Yeah I'm pretty new to programming.
Basically the code looks like this:public static void main(String [] args) {
if ( rounds < 1 ) {
System.out.print("Choose at least one round.");
} else {
gameLoop(rounds);
}
}
public static int gameLoop (int rounds) {
int value = final(returnValue);
end(winner);
}
}
public static int final () {
score = 329;
int returnValue = final(score);
return returnValue;
}
Basically the problem is in the gameLoop method. I have no idea how to access the value returned from the final method.
OpenBSD newcomer here, some things I've recently learned:
1. Configuring hostname.* files and bringing them up with /etc/netstart
2. Vi. Still prefer Nano but maybe that'll change with time.
3. Desktops like Gnome are buggy.
Stuff I still need to learn:
1. How to apply errata patches. I've downloaded the tar.gz, ran '$ gunzip -z' on it, got the tar, but can't extract the tar and don't know what to do from here. Still got more reading to do on this.
2. How to set up mail.
3. How to send patches.
What do you like about OpenBSD?
>>55954939
>What do you like about OpenBSD?
I don't get overwhelmed by the number of applications available. There's barely any and most suck. This keeps things simple. I enjoy just watching it boot.
>>55954985
Do you have a lot of applications installed? What do you think of pkg_add compared to whatever you were using before?
It's comfy. I have updated to -stable and have cwm configured nicely with zsh and urxvt.
Firefox 44 is kinda lame but I have it set up nicely.

Welcome to /fglt/ - Friendly GNU/Linux Thread.
Users of all levels are welcome to ask questions about GNU/Linux and share their experiences.
*** Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly GNU/Linux Thread. ***
Before asking for help, please check our list of resources[*].
If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following:
0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine using VirtualBox or other software made for this puporse for safety purposes.
1) Use the Live ISO (if your distribution of choice has one) to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything, that way, you can get to experience the GNU/Linux operating system without installing it.
2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or macOS, this is recommended if you want to know more about the GNU/Linux operating system.
3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.
