>got blood stains on my clothes

Wew, this internet/computer privacy thing is shaping up. Am I just paranoid or is this a valid concern?

Unless you're about to kill someone (or have already killed someone) that's not going to get you on a list. At best it'll be used as circumstantial evidence at your trial in the aforementioned case.

If linux is good why is it so irrelevant despite being free? Is it because its autistic userbase is giving a bad name to it? Is it because its simply inferior to windows?

It is

it's irrelevant in the desktop community because open source software development is relatively decentralized, and all the evidence suggests that crowdsourcing and design don't work.

and when i say design i don't mean making glossy buttons; i mean things like usability testing, heuristic evaluation, GOMS, etc... shit where you evaluate how quickly non-expert users can get a task done, how frustrating the process is for them, things like that.

Why is g obsessed with open source?

Most of you can't even program or read code.

Free software doesn't only benefit you if you can program, it benefits all of us. It's based on the four software freedoms:

Freedom 0: The freedom to run the program as you wish, for any purpose.

So, if you purchased a copy of a program, you can install it on as many computers as you like, without worrying about running out of licenses.

Freedom 1: The freedom to study how the program works, and change it so it does your computing as you wish.

This implies that the software must provide to you a copy of the source code when you purchase it. Even if you can't program well, it can benefit those just learning to program because they can study the source code of useful software.

Freedom 2: The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help your neighbor.

This is self explanatory. If you buy a cool game and want to play it with your friend Bob, you can just send him a copy.

Freedom 3: The freedom to distribute copies of your modified versions to others.

This is even more helpful if you manage a business, but can benefit anyone. Any modifications you've made to the software (say, mods or addons to a game) can be redistributed (along with the software itself)

Are laptops finally capable of being desktop replacements?

Do I need a desktop when I can just use an i7 elitebook or latitude instead.
Do you need a gaming pc when you can buy a gaming laptop that has a desktop gpu in it?

Why does chrome have so much fucking desktop marketshare and why is everyone abandoning firefox? Is this the end of days?
68 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>56800476
A little theory of mine:

Firefox reached a point where it was perfectly functional, after that all that remained was to keep up with security fixes and introduce a few improvements (like multi-process).

The problem with this is that you don't need nearly the number of staff to do incremental support and maintenance.

So in order to justify their continued employment at mozilla (and mozilla's budget itself), you have programmers and UI designers basically adding in useless/unnecessary new features and needlessly changing/removing perfectly functional current features.

All of which is to make sure they get another paycheck, not to actually make a good browser.
>>
https://news.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=8836539&cid=51642315

Because Firefox is a piece of shit.
>>
>>56800567
Nice theory faggot

The plebs are leaving Firefox for chrome because it's heavily promoted by Google everywhere. After Firefox started losing marketshare to chrome, they began copying it in hopes of keeping users which only made the problem worse. The whole sjw shitshow is another factor.

I put OS and most programs/vydia in my 240GB SSD and media, downloads, and other things in my 1TB HDD

My main directory in my HDD looks like this:
>[1] Video
>[2] Music
>[3] Books
>[4] Downloads
>[5] Torrents
>[6] Other

The reason why I put numbers is to denote the priority of things, I find things like tv shows/movies and music more important than anything else but this can vary from person to person.

After this main directory I put things in more folders to organize them by artist or name of the show/ year made and whatnot.

Any unifags here? Starting soon and wondering if this kind of set up is often allowed in lectures; although I doubt most normies would even think about it. But why buy a chromebook or memepad if you're only use it to take notes, if a smartphone and a cheap bluetooth keyboard can do the job? I'm just worried most teachers would not allow it because they hate students playing with smartphones

I just watched this Lennart Poettering talk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TyMLi8QF6sw
and I've gotta say, systemd is actually a pretty awesome thing.

I understand that it tries to be so much more than a simple init, but it handles things so much better and makes life much easier than ever before.
Every role it takes, it does so much better. So what if it goes against the unix philosophy, if it's for the grater good?

There are absolutely no rational arguments for using an inferior init system.
Face it, systemd was the future a long time ago and that future is now.
