What does /g/ think about the Marpac Dohm-DS and the Hibermate? I'm thinking about getting both to sleep better at night. I've used ear plugs before, but it's very easy to damage the ears with them with sleeping.
I just smoke a little weed

I couldn't use something that reminds me of Spring.

Like the season (if so, you don't capitalize it)? Or is this some sleeping ear muff?

Hello /g/!

Year of the Linux Desktop is finally upon us.
ok
Should you install an AV on Desktop Linux?
Viruses just for Desktop Linux appear to exist: https://vms.drweb.com/virus/?_is=1&i=8856496
Anyone running one?
>>57173089
clamav but there's no realtime protection afaik
you can just run your webbrowser in a chroot or something though
>>57173108
This, I use clamav. It can be configured to do rts if you really want but common sense really is key.
They exist but you won't get one if you installbfrom your repositories. So you don't usually need one.
How does this make you feel?

No, yes

How if we can't understand our own brains?
Emacs or vim, and why?
>>57172957
http://spacemacs.org/
Used vim for a couple of years but with all tweaks and completion engine it grow bigger and less pleasurable to use.
Now i am trying get used to spacemacs.
>>57172957
Emacs! I was taught Emacs years ago and have used it ever since. Muscle memory prevents me from ever jumping ship. That and the ecosystem is really good. I'm not saying it isn't for vim, I've honestly never typed more in vim than :wq!.

No, it throws out a lot of crap and you both read too much meaning into it and only remember the ones that managed to get lucky.
You throw random words together and something will mean something.
You may notice that 'lying to your teeth' doesn't even make sense as a metaphor
Very sentient indeed.

/Computer Science & Math/

is it possible to quit pajeet mode on your own?
I know how to program, but I feel like I fucked up badly, after few years I realized that math is everything and the most important part of CS.
Its good to know math on high level because everything in this fucking computer is based on this.
It does not matter if you are doing network stuff. If you know math you are able to understand logic behind specific routing & protocols and how it works.
If you are doing programming, good amount of math makes you better at solving problems and you can choose better algorithms for specific problem,
Modern RE is based on math.
Every non-meme job require high math skills.
Is it possible to learn all this stuff in free time?
Main problem is that learning calculus 2/3 without bigger perspective is useless. (what could you use it for in real life applications).
For example, interpolation for graphics.
Do you have any guidance how to learn all math to quit pajetism?
bbump
>Do you have any guidance how to learn all math to quit pajetism?
practice, practice and more practice
>>57173567
Being able to solve calculus and being able to spot a solution using calculus in my problem and then implement that calculus solution perfectly is completly different thing.
At some point I was able to first year uni math in head while kids on first semester would use whole page to solve it
but majority of uni do not teach math to show bigger pictrue, they just show letter and explain some basic logic how to use it.
Where this came from? Why is it working, where you can use it.
Thats why math is not popular amon normies.
who /100 percent linux-free/ here?
use OS X and Open BSD exclusively. No kernel exploits here
You act like you're special or something. Most people don't use Linux.
>>57172594
Just kill yourself my man, I'll buy you a gun so you can make the world a better place.
>>57172622
but most people use windows instead
that's even worse
The redpilled /g/ poster is anti-linux as well as anti-microsoft
PT1.
I know it's a wall of text, but PLEASE here me out!
Im the administrator of a company with about 150 employees that doesn't have shit to do with IT (electrical installation, solar stuff, security stuff like cameras & access controlls, pbx shit, and some halfassed networking stuff).
I mostly fiddle around with our Windows Servers (ESXi), AD, Exchange, FS, MDM...the usual stuff.
Only from time to time i need to help the other guys with some networking stuff (portforwarding, lulz) or a customers WANTS us (me) to do their IT stuff (sbs shit, a lil networking, vpn..blablabla)
so heres the thing...
i got contacted by a headhunter a couple of weeks ago, usually i dont give a flying f about those kind of offers,
but this time i was contacted directly by one of the biggest companies in my country (car manufacturer...germany...)
They're looking for an "IT System Engineer".
After a couple of Mails and a phonecall, i sent them my cv n stuff...and now they offered me a job interview...
I was like "yeah sure", but didn't really think it through. To be honest i though they just wanted to meet me in person before deciding.
I then got an E-Mail with the date AND 2 tasks i'd have to prepare...
- They want a short ppt about my person which is ok (about 5-10 Minutes)
BUT they also want me to prepare a job-specific task which really made me feel sick...(also ppt)
PT2.
So Heres the Task
(mostly google translate)
>The [COMPANY] stands before (taking) the operation control for a J2EE portal application.
>In the portal, relevant information from various back-end systems is bundled for Aftersales business processes for the end user.
>This includes, for example, information on parts, work values, service packs, customer service measures and vehicle information.
>The technical basis is the WebSphere Application Server.
>Your task is to develop an initial structuring for the implementation of the portal operation by [COMPANY]. The focus is on the question,
>What must be ensured within the [COMPANY] so that the takeover can be carried out smoothly and without negative effects on the customer?
>Please also make a suggestion for a meaningful sequence of activities. Customer requirements should also be considered.
>For missing information please make your own assumptions.
>- Presentation with free speech PPT / flipchart, duration: approx. 10 minutes
I HAVE NO FUCKING IDEA WHAT J2EE or WebSphere exactly are (only what a short google search told me)...
or where to start...to be honest...im scared shitless, i have about a week left.
PT3.
The thing i always hated the most about my current job, is that i need about an hour to get there with a fuckton of traffic, so often more like 1.5h...
My Boss likes to yell at people sometimes and from time to time (if the other guys are all busy or too stupid)
i have to help around witch shit like connecting patch fields, but really rarely (no idea how you say that in english) and i dont think that i can advance in my current position.
The new job would be about half an hour longer drive...
I get payed "ok" and my job is usually pretty chill since everybody thinks what i do is some kinda vodoo shit.
But there id get a shit-ton more money (about 50%), get a better car and would probably actually learn new stuff and would have the oportunity to advance.
which sounds kinda nice...
I really dont know if i should give it a shot or not.
And if Yes...how?
English is only my third language, so sorry if my grammar sucks...
Sounds like an hassle, decline
Is there any other way to code and compile programs other than mono-gmcs?
Every time i try to install suitable candidate
>>57172446
mono-devel
Probably be easier to install win10 and run ubuntu on top of it instead desu
>>57172464
I have mono-devel, but you are gonna have to be a bit more specific as to what to do with it
Also, thanks.
