I bought it because I wanted the touchscreen and pen support.
The touchscreen is fun to use. You'll find clicking random shit with your finger is actually kind of convenient sometime. I'm hoping there will be more support for it in the future, I can see it being not just a gimmick. Touchgestures studios is great if you do get it.
The display is nice, 3000x2000. I don't know too much about more advanced display qualities, so if you want to do colour sensitive work I can't help you.
Keyboard feels pretty great. If you're comparing it to a macbook pro, the surface definitely wins out.
I got the lowest end model. It's great for doing work, can handle browsing, word, latex, matlab/mathematica, etc very well.
The pen is fine. It feels nice and draws well. However, the design of the surface book limits its usefulness as a handwriting device.
There are several annoying problems with the design:
>pen only magnetically attaches to the left side of the screen.
>fucking terrible range of motion on the hinge
Why the fuck doesn't the hinge let you bend the screen all the way behind to the back?
>up and down arrow keys are tiny
>no ctr or windows key on the right side of the space bar
You can map the weird right click key they put there to one of the two, but just one.

very annoying as home,end, pgup and pgdn are on the function key bar
>no keyboard shortcut for adjusting brightness

You have to hold down a key and wait a few seconds to unlock it. Not a huge problem unless your impatient. If you notice it it will bug you.

Hey /techsupport/.
I have a problem with my computer and I can't for the life of my figure out what's wrong. Whenever I play (moderately) intensive games, my computer will shut down. No error message, nothing. It just reboots as if the power was hard cut. I've tried monitoring temps and they seem to be reasonable (apart from my CPU, which has been running hot since I bought it). I've tried running Furmark and Prime95, both separately and at the same time, to stress test and see if it would kill the computer, but it doesn't.
I'm thinking maybe PSU problem?

I bought a new asus monitor, a VG248qe, to replace my old one because it broke, VX229, however I am noticing some things with this monitor I didnt notice on the other, such as more apparent pixelation.
Is this due to the settings of the monitor and able to be adujusted or did I crap out and get a bad monitor?
I dont have a before image but this stuff wasnt there before, or at least as apparent

the solution is to either return the monitor and swap out for an IPS or other nicer panel
OR
turn down your gamma a slight bit so that variances in color are less apparent
getting a nicer panel is a strictly superior option, but if you like your screen then you're gonna have to deal with compression implimented by overwatch and other dev's

I feel trapped.

Today, no longer do our systems perform the operations we ask them to perform, they spend an inordinate amount of time processing their own commands and sequences.
It is time to take control.
It is time to silence the botnet of Microsoft.
It is time to silence the Phishing of Apple.
It is time to stop the harvesting of Google.
It is time for the Linux's, the BSD's the free software (free as in freedom) to be recognised for their true worth.
