how will this iMac stack up agains new MacBooks?

CPU is better, graphics card is equal or marginally better in the 2016 base 15 inch. faster read/write speeds on the macbook. and you're giving up 8gb ram. IMO just get the macbook and dongle up a 4k monitor
>>

thanx

the 13" model would be way slower right?

I feel like my i7 CPU is pretty powerful and not sure those 15" models would be any faster

feels like I would win mobility but loose slight preformace
right?

Why is this a bad idea?

Upgrade the DNS so that when you resolve a name it returns the ip of two servers, one that's the server and one that serves a hash of the official webpage.

This makes it so there's two points that attackers require to manipulate for a few exploits.

I have an audio file of a commentary track for a video. It is out of sync, and I don't have the isolated commentary audio, but I have audio of the regular video.

Is it possible to extract the commentary audio by "subtracting" the regular video audio from the commentary audio file? thanks. pic unrelated.
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
The commentary is offset with the rest of the audio, or the whole thing is out of sync with the video? Because you can just have your player offset the audio.
>>
>>57350412
No, the commentary is off sync with the audio it's composited with. So, the video notwithstanding, I have an audio file with commentary that's happening about two seconds too soon.

What I want to do is use the regular video audio that I have to isolate the voices in the commentary file, then recomposite it correctly.

how do you know it's out of sync?

I see a lot of technology nostalgia from people these days, so this thread is for counter-nostalgia from people who lived through it.

- Backing everything up three times because floppy disks could be shit
- Not having the money to buy enough floppy disks to back everything up three times so inevitably losing something
- Having mountains of floppy disks
- Different floppy disk types and some friends not having the same drive as you
- A game comes out that looks awesome but on a floppy disk format you can't use
- You buy a game and you immediately have to make a backup in case the original gets fucked because you can't afford to buy it again
- No internet
- Long distance fees to reach the actual good BBSes
- Having to know all prefixes in your service area to avoid aforementioned long distance
- BBS wars
- Download limits to stop people hogging the line
- Download/upload ratios on some shitty boards
- Terrible download speeds
- Line noise (before ymodem or zmodem protocols you might as well fucking forget downloading on a noisy line)
- Your computer not being fast enough to handle most zmodem implementations in your favorite terminal client
- Porn was hard to come by
- Porn was displayed in 256 colors (or less!)
- Porn images might draw in on your screen about as slow as it took to download it in the first place, every time you wanted to look at it
- You couldn't preview porn images before downloading so you got a lot of shitty porn
- Barely any disk space to store the shitty porn which you kept anyway because it's porn
- No such thing as video porn for download, nor video or audio codecs to even make it

That's enough for now, anyone else?

my suffering (from CD-ROM age):
>19GB HDD
>OS takes up 10B
>have to juggle the space - constantly installing and uninstalling shit
>bloatware started to rear its ugly head into scene at that time
>a lot of programs were not installed since I just couldn't spare enough space for them
>I also had to store a lot of stuff on CD's
>and then I had to back up those CD's since they broke/became unreadable for the silliest reasons

-ANSI Bombs
-Buying computer and drive is full of games with .bat menu to launch them
-Porn was hard to come by and sometimes it was a shit animated CGA/EGA image
-TURBO button on case actuallyu made shit faster
-learning how to compress shit better, instead of using a 2 floppy disks, getting down to one.
-DOS file managers
-Music in .MOD files, everybody had the Beverly Hills Cop tune.
-playing games over modem calling your friend house
-Feeling God by playing DOOM against friends in coax network lan party
-trading programs with friends everyday
-discovering mp3 and winamp
-gettting bitches left and right from IRC
-fuckign around with assholes infected with NetBus or Back Orifice.
-Never paying for a dial-up account because you did shit or got info on people and traded in accounts with other people
-Going dual monitors with 24" Flat CRTs huge as a fucking container and using a tenkeyless mech keyboard.

Nobody used floppy disks, CDs just came out and were much better.
Porn could easily be found.

What I usually do these days is go on google shopping and find the lowest shipped prices I can. It takes a while but it's worth it. If you find it's better to suck up a bit more money to combine shipping for maybe 2-3 items together that tends to work out pretty well for cost/convenience.
>>
>>57353807
Obviously, it should be from a reputable brand in your respective country. I'm from the UK and I have my own list of 'trusted' suppliers including ebuyer, kikatek, ocuk, scan etc.

I'm thinking about buying the i5 Surface Pro + dGPU off of Amazon for $1,350.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0163GS05Q/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A7ASE8IKCN5HV

I intend to use it to browse the web at work, for programming, and for school. I'm getting the dGPU because I believe it will make it more feasible to also do some light gaming, like Civilization 6.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? The battery life is a big selling point for me.

Also, historically, how good are BF/CM deals for buying laptops? I'm thinking about waiting, but the best I could imagine is saving $50-$100, which for a premium product really isn't that much. I'd rather have it a month earlier.
