I see a lot of technology nostalgia from people these days, so this thread is for counter-nostalgia from people who lived through it.
- Backing everything up three times because floppy disks could be shit
- Not having the money to buy enough floppy disks to back everything up three times so inevitably losing something
- Having mountains of floppy disks
- Different floppy disk types and some friends not having the same drive as you
- A game comes out that looks awesome but on a floppy disk format you can't use
- You buy a game and you immediately have to make a backup in case the original gets fucked because you can't afford to buy it again
- No internet
- Long distance fees to reach the actual good BBSes
- Having to know all prefixes in your service area to avoid aforementioned long distance
- BBS wars
- Download limits to stop people hogging the line
- Download/upload ratios on some shitty boards
- Terrible download speeds
- Line noise (before ymodem or zmodem protocols you might as well fucking forget downloading on a noisy line)
- Your computer not being fast enough to handle most zmodem implementations in your favorite terminal client
- Porn was hard to come by
- Porn was displayed in 256 colors (or less!)
- Porn images might draw in on your screen about as slow as it took to download it in the first place, every time you wanted to look at it
- You couldn't preview porn images before downloading so you got a lot of shitty porn
- Barely any disk space to store the shitty porn which you kept anyway because it's porn
- No such thing as video porn for download, nor video or audio codecs to even make it
That's enough for now, anyone else?

my suffering (from CD-ROM age):
>19GB HDD
>OS takes up 10B
>have to juggle the space - constantly installing and uninstalling shit
>bloatware started to rear its ugly head into scene at that time
>a lot of programs were not installed since I just couldn't spare enough space for them
>I also had to store a lot of stuff on CD's
>and then I had to back up those CD's since they broke/became unreadable for the silliest reasons

Nobody used floppy disks, CDs just came out and were much better.
Porn could easily be found.
Everything else seems about right.

i used floppies right up until the early 2000's
There's a goddamn good reason why we are happy with every small advancement in tech.

>Nobody used floppy disks
I was required to have a floppy disk for school, and a shitton of games/software were on multiple floppy disks.
>First desktop I bought had no internet because parents wouldn't let me run a telephone line to my room.
>Moving software/etc. by floppy disk.
>Moving visual basic by floppy disk.
