What are some transitional hairstyles that don't look shit on men when going from short hair (~1 inch long) to shoulder length hair?

I've gotten /fit/ enough that I want to try to pull off the Viking look, but the period between deciding to grow my hair out and actually having it grown out is freaking me out, and I feel like I'll look like shit for a year+ to get there.

Besides picking at my acne less, what else can I do to improve my appearance?
Would appreciate if your answers could fit into the following categories, but feel free to give me advice on other aspects of fashion.

Went duck shooting with the family last week down near Kerang. Great uncle back in the 60/70’s took a bunch of army supplies most being pic related with also variations being cameo patches. All the family had them on and t.b.h looked pretty good and tight fitting.

It’s Autumn and getting colder and wondering whether I’d look like a faggot wearing this over a shirt with khaki pants, boots or black jeans, boots with green club masters on. I'm 6'2, decent build aussie.

I bought a bunch of new clothes today as I'm going on a trip tomorrow. Everything in these pics I bought today. Any combinations I could put together that look nice? I'll post a few pics.
