>>11134128
depends on where you live
if you live in LA, do production
san francisco is good for corporate shit in terms of the apparel industry
new york is better for design

but to answer your question directly
yes and no
what i know in terms of production and product development would have taken me a decade to learn if i had tried to someone get a job doing bitch work for a company
but it's super hard to find a job, even with a degree, without having 3 years experience and all that shit

where are you looking at studying?
>>
>>11134129
Currently south germany. There is no relevant local industry but german Brands that outsourced the production into asia and portugal. So if i pursue a degree i most likely will end up doing quality Management or sample construction.
Also its stem around here.
>>
>>11133439
I like volcanoes and fieldwork, labwork on minerals is shit. Luckily in my degree you only have to do the first two years of looking at minerals.
>>

>>
>>11134138
aw damn i have no clue what that market is like
quality management is a good field here in the US, you can make around the same as computer engineers

I know a lot of people that were undecided till junior year, and then three comms on their degree because its pretty flexible, so three years of random generals actually contributes to the degree.
>>11133545
Its not good. There's many openings in STEM fields because those are what's needed. I'm not worried about finding a job. That's the point. When people study [insert social science excluding econ] they're actively detracting from progress, because they're contributing to saturated fields instead of growing ones. >>11133960
Shooting for a doctorate in neural engineering, hopefully paid for by an employer after a masters in Biomedical or electrical engineering.
>>
>>11134284
>language skills
Don't use "I'm a girl" as an excuse to not try.
Electrical engineering and mechanical engineering are workhorse degrees. You can easily get a job out of college, and your knowledge allows you to get most any engineering masters or doctorate if you want to pursue that.
Degrees like biomedical engineering or chemical engineering have the intention of grad school. Still pretty easy to get a job out of college, but a worse job more likely, and it's kind of a waste of the degree.
There are plenty of I'm between as well. Aerospace engineering is a lot of both. Civil engineering is pretty hands on and utilitarian. Not as much room for graduate work.
Mostly, though, you should pick a field that you're interested in. Most any engineering degree is a good degree to get, so basically your drive to study it is what should make your decision.

Maybe that's why conservatives hate it so much, because they've become so reliant on rhetoric and philosophy teaches people how to see through it.

If you're conservative you should probably stay away from Nietzsche. He's very hard to pin down and his stance on moralism doesn't play well with typical cons.

Philosophy is ridiculously important though, but making a career out of it is far from easy. I'd say you're better off taking some odd philosophy classes for the sake of awareness and general knowledge or just reading shit like Also Sprach Zarathustra and The Myth of Sisyphus in your free time. Understand that philosophy isn't just old men rambling about the meaning of life (sometimes it is), it's the foundation of society, be it science or politics.

It's similar to an english lit. degree in the sense that you'll probably end up teaching it (nothing wrong with that).

Like I said earlier; it's a valuable field of knowledge that I personally feel is more important if you do it on the side then apply it to whatever it is you're doing otherwise. Take a stray course and read the real stuff, you don't necessarily need a professor to tell you what's what if you dedicate some free time to it. I'm personally heading into STEM (medicine), but philosophy remains a major interest of mine and I'm absolutely certain it'll be an asset in life.

Really? I loved The Plague, it didn't really inspire me to head into med as much as it helped solidify my decision.

Sartre is great aswell, though he's a bit too much of a commie for my tastes. Both men have good points about creating a meaning for yourself; they're not contradicting eachother either which makes my life so much easier.
>>
>people thinking that philosophy and art majors are doing it because they want a career in those fields

Trust me guys the majority of art/philosophy majors know they'll probably end up either teaching or working in some other field to support themselves. You're not dropping some reality bomb on them when you tell them they're not going to be able to find a job.
>>
>>11136572
Guy literally asked if there were any job opportunities in philosophy. I'm not going to tell anyone who's already deep in the academic shit that their future prospects are bleak/narrow. They know their shit better than I do.
>>
>>11136572
History + Philosophy student here.

I'm in a fortunate position, whereby I can pursue any academic pursuit I want due to free education and a secure financial situation. As such, I decided to study what I love, without even considering a career at the other end. I'm enjoying academia for academia's sake - it sounds contrived but the pursuit of knowledge makes me happy. And because I go to a good university, I know that, regardless of my degree title, I will be able to get a decent job that I enjoy.

I am always saddened to hear about people in other countries that decide not to attend university because of financial constraints - it simply isn't fair.

I'm doing a Mechatronics AAS right now. I'll probably go for a BS in Mechatronics Engineering or Electrical Engineering at some point in the future.

Good choice, I've really liked most of the stuff I've learned. Hated the theory part but the international relations and Canadian politics parts were awesome.

High school dropout here, now 21, been with current gf for almost a year and she's about to finish her accounting degree and has a graduate program lined up for 54k a year starting next January, feels bad man

How many of you didn't complete High School and then finished it as an adult, went on to go to Uni/College and what did you study?

I want to study education but what kind of teacher didn't even finish school, would probably keep it a secret

Everybody says this but I was actually quiet bright and didn't try, was too worried about video games girls and whatever my loser friends were doing

Political Science/Film Studies dual major. Really more of a focus on Political Science though. Filmmaking is what I love, but it seems to me that I can do better on my own/with friends than anything these clowns can in film school. Probably makes me sound like a dick but whatever

Goal as of right now is to get into Law School. Filmmaking is like a if it works, it works kind of thing. I'd rather make movies than work in law but, I mean, you can't really expect to just become a director..

I love it. Its a field ive been interested in since I was young, after my father died. Half the job is helping the families with the grieving process, and the woman who ran the funeral home my fathers service was at, helped me tremendously(went above and beyond. She was very sweet).
Its not a tremendously difficult subject to learn, its just a subject many would like to avoid. Not everyone wants to learn about embalming and preservation. The only problem though is the smell and you get over it pretty fast. Looking forward to running my own funeral home eventually.
