Right now I have 5 cm long hair, do I cut sides a bit and let top grow more? any products? how to style?

I got one side a bit longer than the other so it drapes out a little more,, and the waves i have no idea, I put it in a top knot, wait like 30 minutes, take it out, wiggle it around and put some product in and play with it
