Do leaky faucets cost any significant amount of money a year? Mine drips steady but not a flow in my tub

In a word, yes. Water wasted = rate x time. Even a tiny rate matters when time is infinite. Replace your cartridge.

Or, if its old school, your seals.

It depends on the price and availability of water.

Hey /diy/, valentins day is coming up, are you making any gifts?
My girl just got into Magic: The Gathering and wants to put together her own deck, so I figured I'd make her a deckbox out of wood like pic related and help her put together her first deck as her present.

I'm gonna get some 1/8 in craft wood, dovetail each edge, stain them and glue them together, inner dimensiosn around 3.75*2.75*1.75 so it can accomodate sleeves and then woodburn a heart or some shit to the top/side (I have experience woodburning).

ISHYGIDDY

just buy the bitch something from the dollar store. why waste time making her something she wont appreciate anyways because women are money hungry gold digging whores who only care about material things

What's a cheap, effective, and non-permenant way to soundproof a room?

I was thinking of gluing foam to plastic poster sheets and just nailing them to the walls.

Like...a bunch of them side by side...

I have one, and I use it relatively often. It's nice for small sanding jobs and flush cutting/plunge cutting certain materials but the blades and attachments are really expensive for what you're getting.
>>
An expensive luxury, but fantastic nonetheless.

I use mine a lot for plunge cutting and not much else, but for that purpose it is brilliant.

Routering panels for my bench and I got a new raised panel bit but its fighting me every turn.

I needed more lip to carry the panel in the dado, so I removed sealed ball bearing to gain some room.

Set up is still eluding me and I wrecked a spare panel I glued but replaced due to it being cupped.

Help me 4chan, your my only hope.

I am using a router table with an insert and this limits how far up the bit can extend. The bit is for 3/4" panels so not sure how Im fucking this up.

>>
>>937935

If you've removed the bearing, you can grind the neck of the screw shaft down to a level of the router kives or lower...this will allow you to run past the center point of the bit...jig up a fence to run your panel against...make multiple passes as this can and will kill the router...

Hope this helps...
>>
>>937935
Have you tried just buying a larger router, or perhaps an extension. imho that bit is not sharp.
>>
Lol lower the router depth for more room??
Or make a quick new insert for the router table for the distance you need. Just grab plywood, make a shell deep enough for however much you want the bit to show and cut it.

Hi I have to cut the bigger piece to the size of smaller piece, how should I about this so that I dont destroy it?
Material for the glass tubes is glass, untempered most likely, it is a decorative piece for a crystal lamp.

>>
Score and snap if you're feeling brave. Grinding it with a fine wheel if your not.
>>
There is a technique for cutting glass tubing where you score around the tube using a diamond point or glass scoring tool, and then you use an electrically heated piece of nichrome wire to to heat the area you just scored. It causes a crack to begin as a result of expansion of the glass and makes a neat cut.

/o/ wasn't helpful.

How do I fix this?

I have chrome color spray, 180 sandpaper, polish.
It's on the front bumper, so it's glass fiber.
12 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
That looks like powdered metal coating. Look up the paint colour code, buy the proper paint, if you use some cheap spray paint it's going to look like garbage. Also there's the chance it's going to look different than the rest of the car even if you use the correct paint. If there's no crease or loss of fiber, you only need to paint and polish.

>/o/ wasn't helpful.

Not at all surprising.
You can make it look acceptable and nobody will notice unless they are looking hard.

Find the actual color code for your car, google the year and model and general color, you should be able to find it.

Go to the auto parts store and find a can of color matching touch up spray paint.

Wetsand the bad area, mask it off, use a PLASTIC primer, let it dry, put on very light coats of the color match , let dry and then wet sand, another coat keep going until you think its sufficient enough.

Then buff the shit out of it. Itll look OK hopefully the rest of the car hadnt faded too much

I found my car's color by looking under the hood.

Hello I would love to know if it's possible to remove the pneumatic function from the chair, I always keep it at the lowest and I don't need to go up and down.
However, the chair keeps going up.

I prefer it to have stuck and don't move

Any help?

the pneumatic cylinder is the bit that attaches the seat to the base so if you can find something suitable to replace it then yes.
>>
Just drill a hole in it
>>
It isn't a "pneumatic" function.. It is an hydraulic function.

Why do BLDC motors vary so much in power? You have small remote control plane engines like this putting out 15kw. But then you have larger and heavier ebike motors with only 2kw.

What variables cause one BLDC motor to have 10x higher power to weight ratio of another?

>>
Just guessing here, but the RC plane motors have excellent cooling and the run times (per run and the total run time) are pretty short.

Why is the difference so extreme? For example this motor weighs roughly 4x as much and offers half the torque at the same voltage.

Hello /diy/

I need help with these LEDs I got today, it didn't come with a power box to connect to a power outlet and I was asking for you help so see which power supply I needed and I would find around my house any ideas?
2 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
pretty much all the info you need is on that thingamajig. you need a 12V power brick, preferably at 6A, with a barrel plug, positive on the inside. then one connector goes off to your lamps, and some other doodad receives a signal from the remote control, if you have it.

usually if you actually want help, and not to waste people's time, you provide a model number or an ebay link, or something, anything, more substantive than the tiny shred of info you coughed up.

Can you buy a cell phone in breadboard format, where you just have to wire up your buttons, speakers and mic?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>937993
Almost definitely no, at least in the US/from US suppliers. That bit of spectrum is pretty closely guarded by the FCC
>>
I mean something that's locked to the correct frequencies, but is just missing the buttons, speaker and mic. A DIY cell-phone kit.

I could just hack a cheap Nokia phone but I wondered if anyone's seen a more convenient kit.
>>
What exactly are you trying to do? Rewiring up buttons, speakers, and mics is trivially easy and not very useful unless something broked. If you want to add new functionality, it'll be pretty difficult because it means repurposing connections, modifying drivers and OS changes.

Hey /diy/

Here's my rough plan for a platform bed, any thoughts?

Specific questions:
1. What type of wood would look good for the exposed parts (B C D E)? The room is light yellow, so something dark i think.
2. Would the box (F G) be more stable, or should i use posts?
3. I have the exposed wood 2' longer than the platform. Should it be the same length x width? I wanted some wiggle/fuck-up room, and if i don't fuck up (!) it'll just hang off by and inche.
4. How can i attach the exposed wood without overly visible screws? Glue? Paint the screws?

I used this project as a base

https://mydiyhome.wordpress.com/2010/07/25/projectking-bed%C2%A0frame/

I may add the floating table and a headboard later

I'm not a regular poster, sorry if don't know how to ask for advice

>1. What type of wood would look good for the exposed parts (B C D E)? The room is light yellow, so something dark i think.

Oak, stain it dark. You will find that hardwoods are very expensive especially true of naturally dark ones.

>2. Would the box (F G) be more stable, or should i use posts?

Particle board box isn't going to be very strong, but it should work fine for a bed to sit on. Consider reinforcing the corners with dimensional lumber.

>3. I have the exposed wood 2' longer than the platform. Should it be the same length x width? I wanted some wiggle/fuck-up room, and if i don't fuck up (!) it'll just hang off by and inche.

I would make the LxW overhang the ratio of overall LxW but your way will be fine.

>4. How can i attach the exposed wood without overly visible screws? Glue? Paint the screws?

Pocket holes or screws and plugs or just make them visable and deal with it. Paint sucks if you ever want to take it apart.
