Hey there, /diy/
After years of apartment living, the wife and I are finally moving into a big-boy house. I want to start investing in some decent tools that will last for a little while but not break the bank.
The first one I think I'd like to bring home is a table saw. Any suggestions as far as what brands to avoid, models to consider, or if a certain tool has been especially good to you that you can recommend to a new buyer?
I guess what I'm really asking is what someone starting a tool collection should prioritize
Brands are about the same. If you want higher quality, look at industrial/commercial lines. They also cost more.
>>937560
If you're just starting out, utility is gonna be your best bet.
A table saw is a good choice, also look into a handheld drill
>>937582
This, plus maybe a miter saw depending on what projects you have planned
So, i have this cooling pad, and i want to be able to regulate the fan speed, so if you guys could make a circuit, the cooling pad is the Cooler Master Notepal X-Slim.
Thank you,
>>935074
Well, telling us the type of electricity it takes, its voltage and its amperage would help us out. Without that information I can only guess. I'm assuming its 12 volts DC and draws under an amp so you can probably get by with a simple rheostat.
>>935074
>so if you guys could make a circuit
Which bit of Do It YOURSELF confused you?
If you want advice on how to learn enough electronics to design & build your own circuit, check out the /ohm/ thread on here.
>>935075
Nah not 12V thats the 5V from the USB Port.
I checked it up it should be 0.38A, 1.9W at 5V.
Very easily Dimable so, yes, do it yourself!
What is a good angle grinder cut off wheel that doesn't wear down that much?
For cutting what?
Metal(aluminum,steel,ect)
You would use a different thickness for different kinds of metals. You're being pretty vagie
Many years ago, I came across a guy working with a small, all wheel drive articulated tractor. Much smaller than pic. About the size of a 'garden tractor'. It sat pretty low to the ground and that sucker could handle prctically any terrain.
I'm thinking it was a Kubota (orange and I seem to remember the name). But I've never seen a little one like that since.
What's the smallest all wheel drive articulated tractor on the market, now or in the past? This is something I could use.

Not articulated but:

There must be some international equivalent.
So long story short, I bought a condo about a year and a half ago. I haven't paid off the mortgage obviously, and it was a 30 year payoff plan or whatever.
My aunt is a realtor so she really knew what was happening. But things have happened and I was considering moving/selling the place. But since I have had the 30 year agreement or whatever, what happens if I want to sell it and haven't paid for the entire thing (basically barely any of it, actually)?
Do I have to pay for the other 28.5 years? Does the bank take it and then when the next buyer purchases, they go through that?
I looked online and I have found numerous, different answers, so I thought I'd ask here.
Ask your aunt, dumbass
>>938150
you have to talk to the bank. the new owner will probably take over your mortgage and pay you the difference if you are able to swing it. if the rate stays the same it should be a better deal than if it is cleanly purchased. if its variable rate there's no benefit to anyone.
Hey /diy/, I broke the frame of my glasses when I went snowboarding. It broke the bridge of my frame. My frame is made of acetat and I want to use acetone to attach the two parts back together. However, with my bad eyesight of -9 I need my glasses through the day. What I have read from the internet seems that it needs to dry 24 hours. I can't go without my glasses for that long, so what happens when I let it dry for 14 hours. Should that be sufficient? Or should I just keep them taped together and wait until I get my new glasses?
Can be found at Wal-Mart in the paint section.
You're welcome.
>>936938
What kind of faggot are you?
Everybody who wears glasses has at least 1 spare set.
Heck I don't even need mine half the time and I got like 2 pairs just to be safe.
So yeah superglue and get a spare set. You should know this by now.
Watch Out when using some glues Especially super glues, they often produce some white fog which sets on the surrounding areas
Guys please help me, I underwatered my Airplant and it got all brown in the bottom how can I save it
>>936887
>un(water)ed
>air(plant)
>got all brown(earth)
Have you tried fire?
Fill a bowl with lukewarm water and let your airplant soak in it for 30 min.
Take it out and put it in an empty bowl near sunlight (but not directly)
Thanks I was a little disappointed when I saw that it was getting brown at the bottom plus it's growing another little plant at the bottom
Could you please suggest a simple finishing schedule to me for my walnut chandelier. I want it to be a very dark but be able to still see as much of the grain as possible. And would you be so kind to include the drying time I need on each step? And could you please suggest products that won't take very long to cure/dry?
Just a quick note I must add:
I already tried to finish this slab of walnut using BLO, then Watco Danish oil, dewaxed shellac and crystalac grain filler but somewhere I messed up and the piece turned not so very great. Some spots seemed to have absorbed more oil than the others. I also followed the instructions out of the cans and I think that led me to working with costs that weren't fully cured. So I've just sanded the piece back to bare wood and am seeking your help.
I live in a basement and don't have access to Very much sunshine this time of the year. Though I have a nice heater in my little shop if that'll help with faster drying time.
Thanks
>Sand it to 150
>rub it up with a nice wet rag
>sand it 150/240 a few hours later
>stain dark
>sand if necessary
>oil once a day while sanding between
unless youre talking about 45 degrees it wont matter much. has more to do with humidity which shouldnt be a problem in the winter
why does everyone stain their shit dark
its walnut for fucks sake
>>937000
>why does everyone stain their shit dark
its walnut for fucks sake
And the fact that in a few years it'll naturally darken anyway.
1/3 polyvarnish (matt gloss depending on finish) 1/3 tung oil 1/3 thinner mix it up. First coat apply thick leave ten and wipe leave to dry for 24 hours, light sand with 320, thin second coat leave 24, sand, third coat. Tada
Hey /diy/ers. Mind if I pick your brains?
My Mom's water heater fell through the floor of her trailer.
What's the easiest way to get it out of the hole and either fix the hole or come up with a more temporary solution until I can get a professional in there? I was thinking of crawling under the house with a car jack and seeing if that can hold it up long enough. How stupid of an idea is that?
Pic related, that's what she sent me.
Thanks in advance.
>>935312
Here's another picture. Not sure how old the WH is.
>>935312
>How stupid of an idea is that?
You could try it.
Maybe you can lift it high enough and then slip 2x4s under it to sit it on, where the floor hasnt fallen through yet.
Im not sure how else I would lift that thing, other than typical bear hug removal of it, which would be difficult.
Turn off water.
Empty tank
Lift it up.
As for a temp fix. A base of some sort like cinder blocks and some plywood.
Help me please
I would like to install a hidden push button switch to override the immobiliser on my car. Reason being is it is a key fob style (pic related)that you push into a receptacle to disarm immobiliser and it gives me the shits
Bonus points if I can retain functionality of the immobiliser as its law over here to sell a car with a functioning immobiliser.
This is the guts, I assume it's a resistor?
move the antenna that is the receptacle to under the dash somewhere. Tape your black fob to the antenna in such a way that its always 'connected'.
you need to test the car starting immo symbol goes off
>>937626
just connect a hidden switch between your stater motor and battery.
throw immobiliser away.
Gen agri topic.
Today's focus - SPIN Farming
Goals of spin farming: revenue focused farming in small areas - 1 acre or less
Lots of experienced SPIN farmers gross $60k+ with low overhead.
Anyone have experience, questions, comments?
Dont mistake that kinda gross for part time - its full time doing it that much. Part time after some experience, $30k+ isnt impossible
I would ask these guys >>>/out/661534
why is this getting pushed on the 3 sites that i visit

>>933576
I don't see any benefits of AVR against ARM
In the long term, it is better to have more ARM experience than AVR experience
>>933626
That can be said of any 8 bit MCU architecture
Also
I just programmed a led blink program into a PIC16F628A. What do I need to know before I design and build a development board to house it? I'm not a complete noob as I've made dozens of boards before but it's my first time with a PIC, basically.
I picked up a Line Trimmer off the side of the road two days ago. It had disintegrated fuel lines and old fuel still in it. I emptied this out completely, rebuilt the carb, installed new fuel lines and filter, put in a new spark plug, and I've cleaned carbon deposits from the exhaust port and spark arrestor.
It now starts, but sometimes bogs down straight away, other times it will run well and idle great. There's a little bit of oil(fuel?) leaking from the exhaust still, and it blows white smoke on idle and blue smoke when I hit the throttle.
Any suggestions to fix the smoke blowing problem or the residue from the exhaust?
Cheers.
Pic semi related; It's a GMC GLT25 from what I've read.
That's normal m8, mostly anyway. Two cycles burn oil to lubricate themselves.
Otherwise if it seems like too much smoke it probably just leaked, while it was out of service, from the carb into the muffler coating it and should stop after it's all burned off.
Either way it wont hurt anything except the environment but you offset that by not being the cunt that throws these things away after a season.
>>938159
>Trimmer blowing white smoke on idle and blue when revving
Oil is leaking into the fuel.
Oh wait....
You probably mixed too much oil in the fuel.
Take the muffle off and see what happens. Don't over rev it though. The muffler can serve as a rev limiter in those but if its internally blocked with oil deposits they have to go one way or the other.
If the carb was rebuilt using the old rubber gaskets etc pic related you can have issues. I have tried cleaning them and all but once the are hardened they are never the same again.
Hello diy/! maybe hifi/audio speakers thread?
We just baught this second hand.
A philips hts 3357
And of-course it wasn't as simple as just plugging it in and play.
there are some issues with this system
-only main center speaker works
-cant play sound from tv(samsung)
- digital audio outputt on speaker and optic audio input on tv
So i started with the sub-woofer.
The 1,5 mm cobber wire leading to the speaker was broken so i had to solder it back on
>>937885
Didnt work either. So im hoping the reason is that i messed up the polarization.
>>937886
even though ive heard it doesn't matter if you polarize a speaker or not.
Is this true?
