Nooooo thank you. Set a glass of ice water down even once without a coaster and the top is ruined. That water ring will be highly visible and never come out. I truly appreciate you /diy/ing something and it looks s lot nice than most lumber coffee tables. That said, I probably would have just got a coffee table for free/spent the $30 for a coffee table off Craigslist. Would look more like adult furniture. The effort you put into it is definitely 5/7 (minus the power strip, need to clean that up) but it's very "bachelor pad-ish"

At first glance it looks like a low voltage power supply for accent lighting or comm/security equipment. The board reminds me of the power supply I've installed in large fiber converters.

I had a 2000 Excursion that kept getting keyed or broken into. I bought a new car and I want to protect it.

However, I can't move yet and I live in an apt and I think a resident or two is the one keying and breaking into cars.

What can I do to get proof it's the guys I think that's doing it. If I bought a cheap IR security camera to point at my car....is that illegal? To film the whole parking lot? I live in Midwest USA.

I was just going to point it towards where I park zoomed in.

Any other suggestions? The police don't do anything without proof. Even though I caught one guy trying to open my car door while I was smoking outside late at night. I threatened him and told him next time I see him near my car I'm coming out with my kimber. He ran but I knew who it was I think based on his weight and his personalized hoody

I'm going to do my first home brew today. I'm using a kit I received for Christmas, and it includes everything I need. The ingredients make an IPA, which is not something I enjoy. I'm planning to change the recipe a bit, and reduce the amount of hops, or leave them out altogether in favor of some lemon zest. I've done some research and I know when and how to do that.

I was wondering if anyone has advice on the hops. The hops included are Columbus and Cascade hops. Which one is the more overpowering bitter hoppy flavor? What other sort of spices might I add to compliment the lemon?

I hate to be That Guy but Google will probably give you more comprehensive answers than most people on here.

I have a couple things to note however.
Considered how much beer you drink in one sitting before bottling.
It is fucked up how much time you save when you use 1litre bottles over the average 340- whatever bottles.

Re sealable "buckle" caps are also save you the money of buying a capper.
>>
>>938048
Bitter flavor comes from boiling the hops, if you want a less bitter beer just cut the hops weight by half or better yet use a IBU calculator.

Research hop schedules, the longer you boil hops the more alpha acids are isomerized which give beer its bitterness but also gets rid of volatile compounds (flavors and aroma). A 60 min boil is called the bittering addition, 30 min are flavor addition and 0 min are aroma addition. Aroma and flavor additions contribute less IBUs to the finished beer but gives it more "palate" and "nose". A lot of brewers don't do an aroma addition so it's entirely up to you.
>>
>>938149
Also if it's an IPA recipe, it will most likely have a higher OG so you could look up a pale ale recipe and adjust your grist and hop schedule.

I need a do it yourself way to secure my home. I've been having problems keeping people out. It's a long story why and not important. I have about 10 broken phones which I can disconnect the cameras from the mother boards is as far as I have hot in my ideas. I have access to a sauder gun and lots of different cords and electronics laying around my house. Any ideas on how I can get at least one camera in each room (mine, my 6 month old sons, kitchen, living room, two bathrooms) and make it to where only I gave access. I have a webcam and a desktop i will be using for the livingroom.

If you have money, doable. You would need multiple arduino boards and lots of little things like resisters and capacitors. Realistically? Buy some cameras for the house.

Anyone know if you can remove the middle post in this type of window?

I have one and one side of the window pops out easy but the other is sealed in and you can carefully remove that but then there's this post and no evidence how it would be removed.

>>939927
depends.
is it a sliding window? does it open? is that middle post structural? it probably is. if its structural then you need to cut out that whole window frame and install a lintel before replacing it with a non-standard size of glass.

you'd be better off just getting a window man to hook you up with a new window. better than not having a clue as to what you are doing and wasting money trying to randomly remove pieces from your house only to have the glass crack under stress.
>>
>>939946
The window it's self will not be supporting any weight.

I'm wanting to have a set of LEDs turn on when I enter a room so I'm going to get a PIR sensor.
Now the part I'm not 100% sure about is how it wires in to my circuit, I'm hoping it works like a button/switch, like I have drawn in my shitty diagram but I doubt I'd be so lucky.
Searching around I can't get a straight answer because I can only seem to find setups for several sets of lights around a house instead of just powering one thing.

So what I want to know is, would my shitty schematic work so that when someone walks in to the room the lights would go on?

If not what am I doing wrong?
I've never worked with sensors before, only switches, so I'm sorry if I'm a retard.

>>
>>940337
PIR modules usually work like switches. They usually have a separate power line and an NO/NC circuit (used mainly for security) or a mains relay. Which one do you have?
>>
>>940349
I have an HC-SR501, it has 3 pins, +,- and something else.
The circuit will be powered by batteries so I don't want a mains relay.

I would try just slapping it together to see if it works but I don't want to accidentally fry the sensor.
>>
so basically a motion sensor? you can get one of those cheap outdoor light fixtures for your yard that turn on when someone walks by... and just rip out the sensor...

but the problem with room sensors is when the motion stops the lights will go out... so if you are sitting watching tv or something the lights will keep going off
or if you are doing your homework or anything that you arent moving around

Lennox G12 furnace.png

Beginning Saturday night, my furnace started acting up, repeatedly going thru a start / stop cycle where it will run for 2-3 mins, then stop and about a min later, start up again and run for a min before stopping again, then 20mins later, it goes thru the same cycle again.

Called my hotrodder buddy today and he immediately said the problem was with the flame sensor and I did a bit of on-line searching around and the answer for others with the same problem seems to be the same; bad / dirty flame sensor.

Apparently the flame sensor is not detecting the burners igniting, so the furnace shuts down but then the thermostat tells the furnace that it’s getting cold in the house, so it starts up again, whereupon the sensor doesn’t detect the flame, shutting it down again, repeat ad infinitum.

cont.

Now the flame sensor doesn’t look dirty to me, the ceramic part has a bit of black crud on it but the bent rod part looks fine (at least as far as I can tell?) and one of the on-line sites mentioned that flame sensors “don’t break”, so I dunno?

I guess my question is; does /diy/ agree with the above and also, how likely is it for a repair tech to try and scam me, claiming the entire burner assembly or whatnot is bad and all kinda stuff needs to be replaced for a bazillion dollars, or that the part “is no longer made”, etc. and if he tries this, how would I counter it?

I’ll add that I got the entire AC system replaced this past summer (old system was 18 years old and leaking refrigerant) and the blower motor was replaced 5-6 years prior.

- get a multimeter ($1.99 HarborFreight will do), and check FS operation yourself. Google/YouTube how to attach meter and check reading, takes 2 minutes. They (FS) also cost fuck all, replacing it as a precautionary / possible solution may be the end of your woes.

You cant cope with that, you deserve to get ripped ;) Ask around for a Tech recommend, they aint all a-holes, and a good heating guy will save you a lot of hassle otherwise. It also sounds like you are not servicing that shit either? Once a year service + clean, less stress + emergencies, long-term.

>I got the entire AC system replaced this past
summer..
- good man. no fucking idea whatsoever why thats relevant to your 30+ year old burner being intermittently fucked, tho - a new burner may actually prove more efficient, and save you some cash. And I'm not shilling for anyone either.
>>
Inexpensive flame sensor replacement would be a reasonable way to eliminate that part as a fault cause.
