I've decided I'm tired of using chinkshit precision screwdrivers to tear apart chinkshit electronics and I want to spend some money on a gud set. The rest of the internet seems to think Wiha is the best but what does /diy/ use? Do you use multi-bits or traditional?
>>942339
I only use multibits for the random shit (read as torx). Wihas are good, but overkill if you're not working in high voltage environments. This is one of those deals where most all mid level does just as good as high level as long as you don't need the additional safety features of high level stuff...
>>942339
no point in using good stuff on cheap shit
wiha is good but for the price you can get 10 of the cheaper stuff so why?
>>942339
I'm with OP on this one. I got some Wera ones, they're pretty good. Never used Wiha.
Guys I have a phone with a glossy back. Pic related- similar
Anyway, it's scratched to hell and I want to add a soft touch or matte finish to it. It's a fingerprint magnet as well.
How do I go about this?
Self bump

Half my house, like right down middle is suddenly having power problems. The right side appliances and lights are barely on, and the electronics are turning on and then off. Other side of house is fine along with the overhead lights.
Any idea? I have no experience with electrical work. Ignore the picture.
>>942144
sounds like you have a phase problem. could be a problem on the part of your utility company.. possible failing transformer at your service
>>942147
Second that. The electricity comes into your house on 2 hot wires. One neutral wire goes back to complete the circut. One of the hot wires are not delivering.
Call your power company.
IT'S GHOSTS!!!!! AAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!!!!!
Hey /diy/, I need your help on this one.
What should I be doing with 155lbs of deer meat?
Sew it all together into a girlfriend, probably the only way you'll ever get one is to make one.
Give it away to /ck or /k?

Are there any legal issues with getting a USB/PCI-e LTE adapter for my home router (pfSense box) and building a huge fucking antenna to turn it into a fixed-WISP style client device? I'm thinking of doing this since I have unlimited cell data and Comcast sucks goat vomit through a bendy straw. Picture somewhat related.
"Unlimited cell data" and unlimited cell data are often two very different things. Your connection's gonna get throttled to almost nothing pretty quick unless you have some arcane grandfathered-in plan.
>>935745
I'm mostly nocturnal so even if I was tethering at line rate for six hours a day it wouldn't cause significant network congestion. I've telecommuted a ten hour shift via tethering before with no throttling. My plan does include unlimited data with no throttling.
How do I fix my glasses in a way that doesn't cost too much money and doesn't completely look like shit? When I was wiping my glasses off with a towel on of the pads that sits between my nose and the frame broke off, and now I constantly have a piece of my glasses poking into my nose. I can alleviate it by placing some paper between that part of my nose and the tiny sharp bit coming out, but I look like an asshole, so I normally just grin and bear it. It seems nigh impossible to remove, and I've spent a good several minutes with a sharp knife trying to remove it with little luck. Is there anyway to get a replacement pad or anything?
The glasses store I got this from doesn't sell this model anymore (glasses are such a fucking racket) and I don't want to make the switch to contacts because I hate having to make sure my lenses are 100% clean before shoving them directly on my eye, and still being incredibly paranoid.
i just got a pair of cheapo reading glasses, broke off the nose pads and jb weld them on. file it down so doesn't look odd.
Scavange pads off a cheapo set of reading or sunglasses and epoxy them on. Just be careful not to get the epoxy on the lenses.
>>943426
>broke off the nose pads and jb weld them on.
You mean I should break them BOTH off, and then use this compound to bind them back to the glasses so that they're both attached and they both look the same?
How much electricity would you have to run through something the size of a nail to support/restrain the weight of a person?
Lets say for electric lock hand cuffs
None, if you nail their hands to a wooden board
>>939733
too soon
>>939732
It's a fucking shitload of current. Think about a 120V solenoid. As beefed up and torque-y as they get, you could still push it in with your hand. You want something that would mechanically latch into place.
i pay 20€ for it and only the is working. Can someone help me?
>>938492
yes, you need to take the back open and post some pictures of everything inside
First of all, describe the problem.
Does it not receive power at all?
Does it power up but a specific part doesn't get power?
Does it all appear to function but output no audio signal?
Also, btw, if could diagnose the problem with my car that'd be great.

Are dealing with toxins something you can do diy? I'm pretty sure I have something in my room because sometimes I smell weird shit and it's a really old as fuck house with little maintenance. I wake up with a stomach ache every day I have random pains and exhaustion. I have crazy as fuck dry mouth that sometimes makes my gums bleed I also notice symptoms show up more when I'm in the room
How do I know what the problem is? Should I just buy tests for everything

OP, it might be a good idea to talk to a doctor about this first. Make sure that whatever is going on, isn't causing serious damage to you, or the symptoms you are experiencing aren't related to something outside the house.
If the Dr. finds something wrong, maybe you can pay an inspector to come to inspect the house? Even if you don't own it, if you think something shady is going on, I think it might be worth the money. Hell, if there are problems that are affecting your QOL, like Black Mold or something, there's likely lots of other problems that could make the place unsafe to live in, like faulty wiring or fucked up plumbing.
Where's a good place to find obscure parts for discontinued hand held electronics such as the Samsung Galaxy Player 3.6?
I need a replacement headphone jack.
Ebay doesn't seem to have any hits on that specific part.

i too would like to know if any places exist for these kinds of things
hi!
I wanna make surprise for my boyfriend so I need your help. I want you to write on the card "Masha+Maksim=" and take a picture of you with this card.
Please send me your photos in email "[email protected]".
I would be so grateful! ^.^

It's in Cyrillic though, thats how it's written. I dont think OP would mind Latin though.

I predict a flood of trap pics arriving any time now.
Any information on making one.

Any of you tube guys ever heard of this? The wiki article for evacuation tip (the little wiggly bit on the ends of tubes) mentions something called a "glasshacker", which are apparently people who ...hack vacuum tubes? Is this a real thing? Because I've never heard of it before, and it doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere else on the internet.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evacuation_tip
>>940911
It's sometimes done in nixies tubes.
You swap out the gas inside it and they change the colour of the glow, since most nixies ionize the gas around the filament to get the glow.
So you swap it out for lets say argon and you get a blueish white glow.
I've never seen anyone do it but it's possible.
>>940911
it specifies nixies for these glasshackes.
so no vaccuum tubes, just gas excitation lamps and displays.
cool idea though.
>>940911
I know some old cross dresser on youtube who makes nixie tubes
Is it safe for me to keep an extra battery in my trunk?
If it's in the trunk is it unsafe to smoke in the passenger compartment? I know my trunk is vented pretty well because I can see the flaps going to the wheel-well
>>940849
Yes provided its in a batt box and strapped down
>>940852
So buy a battery box? Should it be ok in the bin I have it in now if I strap it down in my trunk? If so, should I put wood under it? I was always told to do that if I'm putting a battery on the floor. Maybe it's just a myth
>>940852
What is a battery box for?
Here's the deal: you put a disc inside your PSX, push power, the disc starts spinning and the laser reads the disc. The data it reads is transmitted through the ribbon cable.
How can I log the data that goes through to a file? see pic
My immediate question is: "why?"
I suspect that if you outline what exactly you're attempting to achieve with this project, we may be able to suggest a simpler and easier method of achieving the same results.
>>941793
I want to know what data is exactly transferred to the console from the disc reader unit so I can program a loader to an embedded system to do that for me.
The end game is to completely get rid of the disc reader unit and replace it with a rpi zero or similar that shoots the corresponding data through an identical ribbon cable to the system.
tldr I'm trying to trick the system to thinking there's a disc drive while in reality the data comes from an SD card.
Never mind, I solved it. ;)
