This stick was on a tree growing in the woods near my house. The bark is pretty easy to peel off (kinda like paperbark), the stick itself is mostly hollow, save for the blockage in one of the following pictures. any ideas as to what this is?

Ive seen it before, use to play with it a lot. The bark is really slimy and easy to peel. It grows really fast too, like a weed

I recently bought a ball python and have been fact checking the information I was given on how to care for it. My biggest concern is the humidity. At first I was seeing people say around 50%-60% for humidity, but I've recently read that as low as 40%-50% should be fine as long as it sheds well. I have a 40 gallon tank, with a 150 watt infrared bulb for heat. In the heating corner it is currently 86* with 39% humidity.

Having also read that humidity is important for the shedding process I'm concerned that it may be too low. Should I just focus on keeping the temp. up and wait for the first shed to see if I need higher humidity? And if so, what would you guys consider to be optimal temperatures for the basking side and cooling side?

I know snakes have a fairly long lifespan, and I would love to be able to still have this guy when I'm 50.

>ball python
>40 gallon tank, with a 150 watt infrared bulb for heat
you're doing it wrong
>>
Mesh top terrariums are bad for humidity, get a wet towel and cover the top everywhere except where the heat lamp is, it'll help keep the humidity up but you will have to keep getting it wet, a more constant solution is to put a plexiglass sheet on top of the screen.

Basking 90-95
Cool 70-80

Also keep that humidity high, 50-60 is ideal

4chan, I'm so sad. My three and a half year old cat is dying from liver failure I can't afford to treat, but I can't afford to have him euthanized, either. I understand the ASPCA offers discounted euthanasia services, but the idea of taking him someplace like that to die just rips out my heart.

You guys, please help me. Is there anything I can do, anything I can give him, to give him a painless and comfortable death? I've been trying to research but the only thing I can find people talking about is Tylenol, which seems like an inhumane and painful death.

Fuck, why is this happening? It hurts so bad, /an/. Benedict is the most wonderful animal I've ever owned, I love him so much. And he's just so young. Fuck, oh Christ.

I'm genuinely sorry you're having to go through this and I know your pain. There's a few options but none will be fun to do.

I'd suggest an escape bag. If that's out of your price range, you can even put him in your car and run a tube from the muffler to the inside.

If you have a gun, you could pull an "Old Yeller", but that could be messy.
>>
I'd find a friend with a gun, if you don't have one yourself.

Not trolling. My father put down many of our pets that way. A painless death in a familiar location is one of the better ways to go.

Have more money before you take on a pet next time.

I'm sorry for your loss, op.
>>
If the liver failure is treatable there is a chance that if you give your cat to a shelter, they will give it the medication it needs then adopt it out to someone who knows and can afford the meds. Where I worked people, especially old people, LOVED adopting cats with medical problems. "They have to take their pills, just like me" or "poor thing, let me give you a good life."

If the only choice is death with you, wouldn't it be better to give your cat a chance, however slim, by bringing it to a shelter

My 12 week old puppy keeps on eating rocks and wood chips from our garden.

Does anyone have any experience and advice with this? I keep finding small rocks in her poop. She digs them out of the ground, then runs away with them and eats it before I can catch her. She just puked a large rock and a bunch of bits of wood on her bed and whined a little then went back to sleep. I'm terrified something will get lodged into her intestines.

Don't leave her unattended outside until she outgrows that this. It's normal for puppies to put fucking everything in their mouths, it's kind of their thing. You know where she's getting stuff, so just be present and prevent it.

>puked a large rock
>terrified something will get lodged into her intestines
Dude, you need to be terrified about the damage that these rocks have on her esophagus and stomach as well. You need to walk her around your yard and scold her every rock she gets. The only reason something could go wrong is because you haven't been watching her. Yes, this means fucking stalking your dog to ensure it doesn't die.

Just a friendly reminder to:
Always adopt dogs and cats from shelters.
Always spay and neutere dogs and cats
Always donate your time, money, and extra supplies to shelters (especially small, local, no kill shelters!)
I did 32 hours this 4 day weekend and had fun with lots of dogs.
This is Happy Pappy, he is 2 years old and a snuggly ball of fun. He loves squirrels, squeaky toys, and kongs filled with peanut butter.

Well, /an/, my dog ran off. You might remember me from about a week ago when I asked about him shitting liquid, which cleared up thankfully, but tonight he ran off. He's black as coal, it's winter so it gets dark at 5 pm, and it's 20 degrees out. I have no idea where he could have gone. I live alone and don't particularly have anyone in the area I could ask to help find him, I've been searching for hours now, but the last time someone has seen him was two hours ago and he could have run off in some other direction entirely. My only hope is that he will be found by someone in the community and taken in for the night. He has tags, so if they find him, they can call me.

But it's been too long, I can't keep searching for him all night. I have work in the morning, I can't stay out all night searching in the cold for a dog that blends in with the background.

Tonight I drink to you, Duncan. I hope someone can find you, but chances are, knowing my luck, you probably have already been run over by rush hour traffic.

I need an advice /an/.

My cat turned 16 and for the last month almost stopped eating but lately he stopped at all, wasn't even drinking water.

I took him to vet like any reasonable person would to to have him checked, tests came out positive under every possible aspect and the doc said he's perfectly fine just old.

I tried feeding him like a little cat via syringes with a protein mix and some water, but after 2 days he sarted spitting it out and completly refuses to eat anything.

The fuck do i do? I got him when i was 10 and i knew it one day i'll have to say goodbye to him but fuck.. Why trough starvation, is it normall or the doc was a fucking faggot and didn't know his shit?

Pic related, it's my bro.

16 is really old and he's probably just frail at this point. Some animals just kinda stop eating when they know when their time comes.

You could take him to another vet, but honestly if there is something wrong with him what can you really do at this point? Keep him monitored and comfortable unless he's showing outward signs of pain then I would take him to the vet.
>>
>>2041746
Take him to a different vet if you want to a second opinion. It sucks ass when pets get old. Unfortunately cats can't tell us us what's wrong with them. I hope you can find out what's going on.
>>

Hi guys, I don't post here often but I need some advice on how to keep my dog vegan without it having health problems.

I've gone through 3 new dogs in almost 10 months now and I'm getting a 4th but I'd like to get some advice on diet. My other dogs I'd feed them twice a day solid meals of carrots, rice, potato, collared greens and seasonal fruits which they all seemed to like. I'd mix in almond milk or soy milk sometimes with it too so it was even healthier.

But for some reason they all kept getting thinning coats and two of them broke bones before I had to dump them and a couple other problems. I eat pretty much the same thing and I'm probably the most healthy person I've ever met, do dogs not work the same way?

Thanks for any help guys!

I find a lot of human babies cute but not as cute as animal babies. I feel like I'm a failure as a woman for this, like my "motherly instinct" should make me find human babies cutest.

Human babies aren't cute.
Your own human babies are cute.

well, they're not cute to me, but they'd be cute to you. that's how it works. You don't think they're cute until you produce one, then suddenly it's the cutest thing ever. Meanwhile all your friends are trying to figure out why you've suddenly gone soft in the head because honestly your babby isn't THAT cute... I mean it's not as cute as puppies or something.
>>
>>2041206
Do you have your own kids? I don't feel other people's kids are especially cute. Can't get enough puppy pics though.
It's prolly cuz those pups could be mine. I want them all. Other people's kids are theirs, they can keep them.

Not sure if this would fit better in the reptile or the aquarium general. Does anyone raise food for their pets?

Any tips for keeping cultures going for about ten weeks without any care? Specifically fruit flies, microworms, and whiteworms? Everything else will be fine with the neglect and I don't mind starting over with the flies, but it took all year to get the worms producing as much as I wanted.

But how do I live the food culture?

I do fruit flies and bean beetles.
Bean beetles are the easiest thing in the world and are great. Same with fruit flies, except they require a little more prep to make a colony.

So I spotted this guy yesterday. Looks to be a muskrat, and I saw him crawl under my tool shed too so he might be hiding out there.

Anyone have experience with these rodents? I have a house cat, how risky is it to let her outside with this guy around? My cat's not very big, and this sucker looks about 2 feet long. I've read that they can be very territorial.

She's an outdoor cat. She hunts frequently. We have all kind of animals out here and she's never had any problems, but this guy is new so I wondered if anyone had experiences with muskrats and could give me first hand advice on how to deal with them.

But whatever, since you apparently know jackshit I'll just set a trap for it or something.
