Sup guise. I'm about to get a 55 gal tank and I've been agonizing over what to put in it. I've settled on: dwarf lionfish, engineer goby, and maroon clownfish (one of each). Is this a fuckstupid idea? Or would these three work in a tank together?
>>2041222
they should be fine, they're all usually pretty aggressive.
that's not a lot of fish for a 55 though. And once you put those in you'll have a hard time adding more fish unless you're getting something pretty mean that will break up territories.
>>2041225
Everything I've read is super cautious about having anything aggressive so I'm not sure wth to do. Any suggestions on what to put with them?
>>2041226
I've kept a lot of aggressive and predator tanks. You just need to keep fish that are too big to fit in anyone else's mouth, and try to avoid fish that prey on other fish. Other than that the sky's the limit.
I've found coral beauties and puffers to be particularly capable of defending themselves. Clown wrasses and harlequin tuskfish are tough as well. Triggers vary, they're all fairly aggressive and some will kill everything in the tank. Snowflake eels are usually good choices. Damsels will usually work as well. Blue devils and yellow-tailed blues in particular are very scrappy.
but really it's up to you. A lot of fish are pretty aggressive without eating their tankmates.
Because they don't fit in our backyards silly

Who keeps making these shitty threads?
they breed extremely slow.
In case you wanted to watch some kittens today, my friend has a stream going of her foster kittens. https://youtu.be/9DwZ-CXIqw8
one is Siamese
the other is orange

Siamese is a breed, newfriend. That isn't a siamese, that's a domestic shorthair with color points. Also a qt3.14.
Hello /an/, I'm looking for silent videos and documentaries about animals & nature.
No commentary, just footage, similar to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sirvGWReno
Do you have any links or recommendations?

Microcosmos
I haven't really explored the site much myself, but Biopixel has nature footage:
http://www.biopixel.tv/
How does this make you feel?
enraged
human beings live in comparatively smaller rooms
why should animals have more rights than people
Don't Betas prefer smaller habitats? As far as I know they're territorial and like the small space, so I guess if you kept his water clean and kept him fed, he'd be fine? The fuck do I know.
I see it as being pointless and a waste of the person's GPA.
>Being a vet has a lower status and income
>The number of years of studying in grad school is the same though
>Job security is somewhat lower than being a doctor
>You memorise the same shit about anatomy so it's not like vet school is easier
>Both are just as stressful as you need to perform operations and that is gruesome
>Vet school may as well be harder as you need to deal with so many species of animals
OP, get this,
People have different interests. Maybe some people have a passion for working with animals and not humans.
>>2028692
It's just the same though. You memorise the same kinds of shit about lungs, intestines, etc.
And geez, working with animals is worse than humans. At least a human being won't try to bite your arm?
>>2028694
So get this - the anatomy of a domestic animal is different from a human. Crazy right?
What kind of butterfly is this? I've done a few searches and haven't been able to come up with anything. I like its wings a lot.
Crimson swallowtail
*may also go by Scarlet Swallowtail
or scarlet mormon :3
So about a month ago
Dec. 19 to be exact
I got my first reptile
Bearded dragon like the title says
Temperature gradient and humidity in tank are correct
Fresh food (reptile munchies omnivore mix and vitabugs crickets) and water every day
But it doesn't eat once a day like a juvenile should
And it refuses to get any protein when it does eat
In the month that ive had it, only ate one cricket, no meal worms or anything else
Used to eat the green beans and carrots but now only eats lettuce and banana
Which only happens like once every three days
Was pooping regularly until about maybe four days ago?
Pretty lethargic, spends a lot of time staring down its reflection or just laying flat in the middle of the tank with its feet bent under its legs the wrong way like it just collapsed there
Sometimes it looks like its dead (laying weirdly + no visible breathing) but then it moves when i pick it up to check
Called the pet store i got it from today for advice and all i got was "it could be shedding or constipated so try a tub of warm water"
Which I do once a week anyway for bath time
It's five inches, hasn't grown since i got it
Wat do /an/? Is this normal or do i prepare myself for it to die?
Will provide more information/pics if needed
>>2038564
its limbs look abnormally scrawny, definitely not eating like it should. Might have intestinal blockage, what kind of substrate is in its tank? you didn't give it that bullshit calci-sand garbage the pet stores try to push on you, did you?
>>2038715
Hell no I didnt
I know that stuff is wrong
Ive got some tightly woven carpet in there, and it never bites at it or anything
Actually
I think the limbs of all the beardies at the pet store looked like that if I remember correctly
They werent in a very big tank either
Smaller than a ten gallon, about half
And there was about 10 in there
New general, old one about to hit bump limit.

Does anyone own an Emerald Swift? pic rel
Are they insectivore or omnivore?
What's their lifespan?
Any stories/ tips?
Really thinking about getting one.
>>2036164
those are googleable questions, OP.
Why are lizards so much cuter than mammals?
How does /an/ feel about species conservation? Does anyone have any local species which are at risk, and do you take any action towards their preservation?
The giant freshwater lobsters where I live are under threat partially from poaching but primarily from habitat destruction. I feel like I should maybe do something about it, particularly as right now the local forestry industry is on the brink of clear felling an area upstream of a significant population of the little bastards, and as far as I can tell the measures that are in place to protect them are essentially worthless.
Its a shame because the majority of their (fairly specific) habitat has already been destroyed, and despite being a so-called 'priority species' neither the local nor federal government seem to care to take any actual practical measures towards their protection.
So, have you guys protested or taken other actions for species conservation in the past? Was it worthwhile? Or perhaps you think those species which can't adapt to the changing environment should just go extinct. Let's talk about it.
Pic related, its a lobster, together with a human.
Several people out there keep and breed various species that have gone extinct in the wild or are threatened with it. Seems to be the next best thing to do if the habitat can't be preserved.
Hey /an/ I found this dog and can't find the owner. I might keep him but I don't know what kind of dog he is can you tell me?
>>2041558
looks pretty mutty.
Some sort of Shepherd or Spitz mix.
Check in to your local shelter to see if its microchipped. I'm noticing a lot more dogs(who are microchipped) without collars these days. Risky business if you ask me.
Got a new turtle, it's a freshwater murray / hunter rive turtle.
What should i name it?
cumfart
shelby

/an/, I need your help!
I live in Oregon, and right now they are letting the people vote on what will be the official "State Dog" and right now the Newfoundland is in the lead. But it must be the Welsh Corgi! It's in 2nd place, and is only behind by about 700 votes. Help me 4chan, you're my only hope!

I'm thinking conjoined twin. Most of the other possibilities they list seem extremely unlikely.
Evolution at work and hunters fucked it up.

First thought should always be hoax.
I saw this pretty bug at the park yesterday. What kinda bug could it be?
Location is Florida.
It's a stink bug
it's a stinkbug, stupid.
