I have chronic depression and was wondering what was a low maintenance pet or maybe even plant I could provide care for? It's hard enough to care for myself so I don't want anything like a dog or cat.

Get a few bird feeders and some nice feed and set it all outside and watch your birds come and go. It doesn't sound as exciting as it really is, like, once you start getting different kinds and color birds it's pretty cool and soothing.

What do you look for in a pet, OP? What's your budget? Does lifespan matter?
Chronic depression here as well, and generally I'd suggest rats. Low maintenance, trainable, affectionate, interactive. They're really the best low maintenance you can get as far as interactive and affectionate small pets. Cages can be somewhat expensive, but rats themselves are very inexpensive to care for. However, they can die in 2-3 years, so this is a big downside if you can't handle shit like that. I believe Guinea pigs have much longer lifespans, but they're more high maintenance and need a huge as dick cage. Fish have personally never appealed to me, however, there are a bunch of slightly more interesting amphibious options. Frogs and newts are cool as fucking shit. Reptiles tend to get a little more high maintenance.

Little white worms keep crawling out of my cat's butt. They aren't in his poop at all; we only see them coming out of his butt or find the dried ones around. They also come out most often when he is in the bathroom with us.

We give him tapeworm meds but they keep coming back even though he doesn't have fleas and is inside only. Wtf?

>inb4 take him to a vet, we are already on it

Bought guppies and snail at petco and have them in a bowl isolated. They don't show signs of disease like ick. Should I continue the quarantine or wait it out ?

Also bought a suckerfish, and four tiny tetras and a potted plant from Walmart and was going to isolate them longer because it's Walmart. What should I do? Play it safe I'm sure you'll say.

I'm just worried about water oxygenation cause no bubbler or filter
>>
Do you have an established community you're going to add them to or just starting out? If you have an established community you need to keep them quarantined even though they seem fine now. Give them a week or two and anything that was there will show itself.
>>
>>2043897
Ok then I'll need a bigger bowl for the walmarters

My puppy was running out in the backyard then started crying and lied on the floor. I think she might have sprained her paw? I picked her up and moved the paw and it was limp.

I sat her in my lap for 5 mins so she could relax and she started to walk without a limp and is still able to go up and down stairs without a problem.

I feel like I shouldn't worry anymore, but I still am. Should I let her take it easy until Monday or is it okay for her to run around?

it wouldn't hurt to make her take it easy for a bit if you're worried.
>>
She's fine, but it wouldn't hurt to limit her play time until Monday

Yeah, because there isn't any regulation on that whatsoever.

Some wolves are more endangered than others. I'm fine if they acknowledge and respect this.

We got a new puppy for the holidays, his name is R2-D2 which we just call him R2 for short. He was pushed away from his mother at 3 weeks(pic here at 5 weeks old) so we took him in and took over the weening process since the mother pushed him off too early. He's a wonderful, smart animal and shows tons of personality on his face. I love this bastard to death but I feel he might actually be the death of me, or my sleep altogether.

He is NOT taking with crate training although he did well the first two nights in it he has been throwing hissy fits every time he notices we are not in the room with him inside the kennel. Anyone got any advice for this? I've thought about giving him treats and such for being good while he's in there and not crying like a dying bobcat. I've also thought about giving him his daily food portions inside the crate to make him more comfortable in there when he is in there. Thoughts? Opinions? Please my sanity needs your help.

Hey man I got a boxer pup back in 2005 and that boy didn't know how to sleep or keep quiet for a ehile. But I'm telling you man, just stick with it. It's all good in the long run.

My older dog that I've had for about a year and half never went through these issues. Though, she's a rather quiet dog compared to him. He just shows so much personality and is very vocal. I've gotten into a few "talking matches" where we've gone back and forth with each other and he's barely 6 weeks old now. I am not normally one to crate train since I live in the country but have since moved back to a bigger city and he can't stay outside all of the time and I don't need him pissing and shitting everywhere while I'm gone during the days. My wife is home but she's in and out of the house so much its hard to keep up with him. I will say this, he has gotten better over the past two days, but I just needed someone to tell me I was right I guess. Thanks, anon.
>>
give it time and keep your training consistent. puppies will go through phases where they seem to learn a behavior and then a week later start acting up.

They might send out the sample, which adds extra cost?
A clinic that does more tests in house would be cheaper.

Hey /an/, my dog has been licking his paws more than usual the last couple of days.

I came home from my classes today and saw this. He's only done that with one of his hind legs.

Does anybody know what the fuck he's doing, is this serious, and how I can potentially keep this from happening?

Not even a month ago I posted about the 50000 ducks that were killed in a fire at some Canadian CAFO

http://montrealgazette.com/news/local-news/50000-ducks-die-in-fire-at-brome-lake-ducks-in-eastern-townships

I said there should be better safety regulation, that just because an animal is to be killed doesnt mean the person responsible for their life should not be accountable for suffering. I also said people would ignore it.

And now in Canada, it's happened again

"2,000 pigs perish in barn fire north of London, Ont."

http://www.cp24.com/news/nearly-2-000-pigs-perish-in-barn-fire-north-of-london-ont-1.2743354

"The fire comes nearly two weeks after a barn fire near Cambridge, Ont. killed 43 race horses. Another barn fire in Mt. Forest on Jan. 15 killed 13 horses."

_____________

What the hell. I get that animals are slaughtered. But they are still living things. There is a difference between swift euthanasia and suffering chaos, panic, confusion and pain while watching all your peers die and suffer and be helpless in captivity to escape.

Yes, goddammit, Im mad.

I guess you could make some regulations that they must use top notch equipment because it's about animal lives. Just thinking that this is probably the regular fail frequency of electronic appliances.

>In 2011, an estimated 47,700 home structure fires reported to U.S. fire departments involved some type of electrical failure or malfunction as a factor contributing to ignition.
>Half (48%) of 2007-2011 reported non-confined U.S. home structure fires involving electrical failure or malfunction had some type of electrical distribution or lighting equipment as equipment involved in ignition. The leading other types of equipment involved in ignition were fan (6%), washer or dryer (6%), space heater (4%), air conditioning equipment (4%), water heater (3%), and range (3%).

Just when I think I've decided which grooming tool is best, I'm met with another advertisement that makes me rethink my choice.

Long hair cat owners, what de-shedder/grooming tool do you like best? I have a himmy and he's difficult to groom. He thinks it's play time and won't stay still. So I need something that's highly effective without needing to really dig in there. Gentle too, because he's a big baby.

Greyhound comb, 100%, the teeth are long enough to reach down to the skin and pull out undercoat and the comb is dexterous enough to reach into sensitive areas like armpits and groin. Follow with pin brush for overall finishing.
