I got kicked by a donkey in Ecuador
it hurt a lot

I was stung on the eyelid by a wasp.

Never been badly hurt by an animal, but my cat can't retract her back claws fully, and there have been a few times now where she stepped on my toes and a claw stabbed me under the nail bed.

Here's one of mine, it happened during my senior year of high school
>lived in wooded area before going to college
>lots of whitetail deer
>walking home
>see something red in the woods
>it's a dead buck
>recently deceased, good condition, some scavengers had already starting picking at its butt but it was otherwise intact
>only apparent cause of death is red stuff around its mouth too bright to be blood, maybe it drank paint?
>2 of sisters friends were over, made them and sister help me carry this 200lb dead deer into my backyard in a place hidden from my parents and out of reach from my dogs
>neighbors looking at us weirdly
>deer is heavier than it looked
>walk to the house is about a quarter mile
>we get the buck into my yard
>i want to skin it to speed up decomposition so I can get to the bones
>don't have a hunting knife
>use exacto knife
>takes forever, don't get very far into the skin (hide is very thick) give up and decide to let it rot naturally
>spend like 2 hours sawing off one of the antlers with a hacksaw and give it to a friend who was into pagan stuff
>fast forward about 5 days
>decomposition is progressing nicely, but a huge amount of vultures are hanging out in the trees of my back yard
>mom is like "hey anon do you think there's something dead on our property?"
>tells me she's scared to look and doesn't check
>go forward another day
>groundskeeping crew arrives
>fuck
>they're gonna see the deer
>check after they leave
>deer is gone
>mfw i worked so hard to drag this deer from the woods into my yard and spent hours with my hands inside of it and i didn't get anything out of it

You should have dragged it deeper into the woods when you found it.

I don't collect anything that still has meat on it, but I'd like to once I get a dermestid beetle colony going.
>>
>>2034779
I pulled it onto my property so it WOULDN'T disappear. I wanted to bury it or attempt cold water mastication (had a lake and dock) believe me, but even digging a shallow grave for something so big is a lot of work and there was no way to me to easily create a container for it so I could hang it off the dock.
Also you need a box to bury corpses in to make sure the bones don't get lost and I didn't have a deer sized box.

Why are you assuming your dog is going to die? God, give him to a shelter if that's what you think is going to happen, at least then SOMEONE will take care of him.

CUTEST OF CRAIGSLIST/PETFINDER THREAD
Go on petfinder and find the one bby you'd actually want to adopt.

Meetin' and greetin' this big loaf of hair within the week. Thoughts on breed mix? Seems Irish Wolfhound-ish, he's 100+lbs. They're saying he's mixed with Great Pyrenees which idk where they're getting that from but yeah. His name is Amos, which idk what I'd change to if I actually got him. Something Irish or appropriate for such a big scruffy dog. All in all I just want to show off how big and cute he is.

For those who know about my dog-search, the other dogs I was looking at were apparently not meant to be after I got back fro. The Weimaraner/Lab mix found a really nice home and the bushy-tailed retriever mix won't text/call me back.

Gsd vs doberman vs rottweiler.
What do you think is the best breed when it comes to useful personal traits and the number of health problems?
24 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
Well, you can select lines of GSDs that are less likely to have bad hips. But 50% of all Dobermans, from all lines worldwide, will die from DCM.

And I've never found Rottweilers aesthetically appealing.

A good GSD really ought to be a highly adaptable animal that can be trained for just about any task, with minimal or mild health concerns.

GSD for me, but everyone has their own preferences.
>>
in the shelter I'm at, GSDs are always the most neurotic shitty dogs. the puppies we get in are fine, but only one over 6 months wasn't this way. that's pretty standard for them here as well

rotties are pretty much the same as GSDs around here but less common. just got one in yesterday who is probably the scariest dog I've ever seen. he's the only dog we've had that I'm actually afraid to even walk by his kennel

dobermans are usually pretty chill in my experience

that being said, I think dobermans are the least healthy, with GSDs and rotties not being too different from eachother in terms of number of health issues or severity
>>
When I worked at a vet hospital, most of the highly aggressive dogs were GSDs, and GSDs were only a very small fraction of the canine patients we saw. It's ridiculous how many of them were neurotic shitheads.

Every doberman and rottweiler I've met were absolute sweethearts. Rottweilers were all either really aloof or goofy, and dobermans seem to be really clingy with their owners.

GSDs are very versatile, but the typical GSD personality I've seen makes me think the average pet GSD is shit-tier. Rottweilers seem to get fat really easily, but are big strong dogs with a scary bark, and would be good at frightening potential intruders. Dobermans would be my favorite, I like an animal that's attached to its owner at the hip, and the most well-trained dog I've ever met was a doberman.

Any of them can be great if bred well and trained up right.

She's injured, numbnuts. Who the fuck is going to take an injured rabbit? I figured that's what animal shelters and veterinarian clinics were for, but I guess profit profit profit is the only thing on the agenda for even the so called "non-profit organizations".

I have to powder her ass again later tonight because the people that "kept" her kept her locked up like that for so long the shit encrusted in her bottom. She's so unused to walking properly I'm not certain her shuffling is due to sheer fucking neglect or one of her legs got broken (still has mobility in both though, and she was very calm for my holding onto her when I dry bathed her the first time).

Thank you, humanity.

help me to choose a pet

im looking for a pet to be my companion. low maintenance as it can get. good health. affectionate, cuddly and playful but is ok when im silent. not attention seeking or too curious. is not noisy. is submissive to my simple commands i.e not a stubborn pain in the ass but it doesnt need to learn anything more than that. apartment life. so would love a bigger dog but no much space and they sound more high maintenance. i did research and quizzes etc. considering cats now mostly but still not sure.
also hypoallergenic.

breeds im considering now:

cats:
1. burmese cate
2. devon rex or russian blue

dogs:
yorkie poo, poodle, cavalier king charles spaniel, and likewise smaller dogs with bigger dog personality

any kind of advice is appreciated

As long as the dog's trained well:

>affectionate
>cuddly
>playful
>can rest
>is obedient
Dog.

Cats are for introverted people, though.
Generally speaking.
>>
>>2041837
affectionate introvert here. normally am a dog person but might not be able to give it needed external stimulation. thats why considering cats. obedient as in not going against my will, but i dont expect it to do anything more. dont need much playfulness either
>>
then let me ask for breed advice from cats AND dogs. then i can decide which to go with later. what you guys think about burmese, devon rex and russian blue?

Hey /an/, I got Daisy just last night from a rescue shelter. She hasn't eaten all day and I can here her stomach growling. I also have an 11 year old dominant beagle. Could my older dog affect her eating? How do I get her to eat?

Pic related, thats Daisy :)

She might just be nervous
>>
just give her some time, it can be scary going to a new environment. and make sure your beagle isn't bullying her out of food or anything

maybe try hand feeding her a little bit of food just to see if she'll even take it

Just realized that nuggets are the veal of poultry.

If you abstain from veal but not the nug of chicken, then you are inconsistent/dishonest about your views. (Disclaimer: I know that the logical end of this entire argument is to abstain from meat period, but I'm just interested in this one point about why people choose to abstain from just one instance of baby animals made into food and not all)

Discuss.

dude what
>>
>>2041381
Basically, if you don't eat veal because it's a cruel product on the basis of the meat coming from a calf, then wouldn't you also think chicken nuggets are cruel because they're made from chicks? Seems like people make the distinction more about veal and not chicken nuggets despite the products being similar in their origin.
