Border Collies are wonderful. My bitch is so smart and has a great personality. They're definitely not the dog for everyone though as they're much more high maintenance than a golden or a companion breed.

I also like livestock guardian breeds a lot. The instincts they have are amazing. I want to have a farm in the future so hopefully I'll get to have a pair of Great Pyrs.

I give my dog ginger before car rides so she doesn't hurl everywhere.

She also gets Green Vibrance in her food a few times a week. I bought it for my smoothies but I heard it's good for dogs too.
>>
My dog only stays in the backyard which is medium size. I never give him any vitamins, I don't think he needs them, he looks very healthy. And the neighbours who let their dogs roam on the street probably don't give supplimens to their dogs either, yet the doggies live many years.

My dog keeps fucking cushions and anything he can rub his little red rocket on it. I'd get him neutered but I'd really like to breed him. My girlfriend is getting really upset about it. Do you think I could condition my dog to use a fleshlight? Maybe form something into the shape of a dog and rub his dog bed all over it?

I suspect my cat has ear mites since she's tilting and scratching a lot, and has black debris all around her ears. The problem is, she won't let me get close enough to administer any treatment. If I try to touch her ears, she pulls away. If I try to hold her in place, she squirms out of my arms and finds a place to hide. The only plausible way I could treat her is if she were sedated first, and I really don't want to do that.

I thought about taking her to a vet and letting them treat the mites, but they're going to change me an outrageous amount just for the visit. You can't simply walk into the vet's office here, say you need a quick application of eat drops, and leave. They'll insist on doing a physical before they'll agree to treat anything, and for that they'll charge somewhere in the area of $100 alone. To get the ear drops through the vet and have them apply them in office would run me another $100 easily.

Does /an/ have any other ideas? Maybe someone here has experience dealing with evasive cats who have needed ear mite treatments before.

get her in the bathroom and try in there
>>
It's almost like a vet can't legally prescribe medication without a doctor-patient relationship and would want to actually find out if your cat really has ear mites and not one of the several other things that could cause itchy ears full of debris! Those weird terrible vets and not wanting to just treat things blindly ha! ha!
>>
Just go to the vet.

The vet will ensure the correct diagnoses, prescribe the correct medicine, and show you how to treat. You won't need to sedate. They will show you the correct techniques for restraint and easy access to the ears.

If you do grab her, please whatever you do, do not put anything down her ear canal thinking you are helping to clean it out. You will just be shoving the mites down and causing a blockage, creating more problems.

Sometimes vet clinics will have vet nurse hours, where you can just go see the vet nurse. You can even call them and ask if you can see the nurse. Should be cheaper and the nurse will show you correct techniques

So I woke up today to find one of my cats had dragged itself from the living room to the bathroom, leaving a trail of bloody feces. It's incapable of standing and is obviously incontinent. All I can figure is that it fell off an end table and hit its back on the edge of a cardboard box under it.

Can cats recover from paralysis caused by damage to the spine or should I just have it put down?

There's no other explanation I can think of. There's no feces on the table itself. The cat often gets into fights with another male in the house. It may have attacked him while he was sleeping and caused him to fall off in the scuffle. All I know is that I've got a fucked up cat.

It's worth noting he's not vocalizing or indicating that he's in any sort of pain. He's clearly confused as to why he can't walk but docile and calm. None of the local veterinarians are picking up their fucking phone because it's after 5pm so he's probably going to have to spend 12 hours in a pet taxi.

Who here bee keeping this year? I am brand new to it. Just got my hives, getting them put together in anticipation of 2 colonies coming from a neighboring beekeeper. I live in a mite infested area however, what are some good ways to ensure a healthy, mite-free colony?
Also I learned there is a tax write off for bee keeping expenses in my state. So that's pretty sweet.

Anyways. Beekeeping general I guess. Keep wasp posting to a minimum.

I've heard that using Top-bar hives instead of the regular Langstroth helps with mite infestations. The theory is that the combs are more compact and that forces the bees to be smaller and smaller bees are harder to infest with mites.

There are also some essential oils you can use to kill mites. Wintergreen, tea tree and patchouli will all work. You can mix it into some sugar syrup to feed the bees or just put a napkin covered with it on or near the hive so that the bees can dose themselves. You'd have to look up dosing quantity though. I don't know the ratios that are safe and that work.

Just got home from the vet and having a sad and anxiety filled day, /an/. My little puppy got too excited running around and slipped and broke her leg. They didn't splint it or anything at the vet, because apparently the break is still aligned and they don't want to mess with it. But we have to keep her crate bound for a week and bring her back to see if she needs a rod put in her leg.

I've never had a pet break a bone before, and I had to hold her this morning while she was screaming in pain. I'm super down and stressed.

Anyone have cute pics of their dogs to share with us today in general? Also has anyone ever had a puppy break a leg before? How did you keep them from hurting themselves more?

My dog(pit mix) eats it's own shit and I can't stop it.

If I catch her doing it I holler at her then run out into the yard to pick it up before she goes back to finish it off, but I can't be at home 24/7 watching over her.
Her fucking ribs are showing, I think she has worms(seeing as the fucking worm medicine makes her shit them out, and she gobbles the eggs right back up......)

The other dog does nothing of the sort.
>>
>>2074088
She'll stop eating the shit once her nutrition is alright.

Dogs only eat shit because A) they like the feel or taste or B) They're desperate.

This one is a case of B) Because the worms are fucking up her digestion. Make sure to removes the worms entirely and don't keep the fucking dog near where she shits. Keep her indoors while you're gone or something.

Hey, /an/. My dad's dead set on getting a male dalmatian puppy at the end of the summer - it'll be the family's first pet. Both my parents are in their fifties, I'm 20, but will be 21 by the time we probably get him, and my brother's 17. Part of me is a little apprehensive that we won't be able to train him correctly or mess something up. Have you got any advice for first time dog owners, in regards to diet, neutering, discipline, etc...
36 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>>2080087
Get him fixed. No question about it. Some breeders will make you agree you will fix the animal.

On that, make sure you research breeders as well. Don't be afraid to drive or travel to get a pooch from a high quality breeder. This is especially important to dalmatians, which do have some health issues.

Feed him as good of a food as you can afford. We all have our budgets, yeah, but do some research and figure out the best brand at your price point. Think of food as being proactive. The better diet you feed him, the less of a chance he'll get sick.

If you are worried about "messing something up" regarding training or discipline, then consider hiring a professional trainer. They'll make home visits and teach you and your family how to doge.

Also, one last word of the wise: dalmatians are SUPER high energy dogs. He'll require lots of walks and exercise and time. Just make sure you and your family understand dalmatians are a TON of work.
>>
Any reason he wants a Dalmatian in particular? Never had one, but I hear that they can be aggressive.

Try and steer him towards a good beginner breed, like a lab or a golden retriever. They're easier to train, but make sure you stay on top of it because most of them can end up in shelters as a hyperactive mess.

If you are interested in a male I highly suggest a ULA dog, as all dalmatians have kidney stone issues, but it is more apparent in males. A low protein diet is also recommended for this as well.
The breeder should also provide you with paperwork from a BAER hearing test. This is important because like many white purebred dogs dalmatians are known to have hearing issues.
They are a high energy dog especially when they are puppies. If they are trained and socialized they become well adjusted as they get older.
I suggest you check with Dalmatian club of America and any local clubs in your area to start the process of selecting a reputable breeder. Good luck.

I have a rat in my house, and its like a fucking Tom and Jerry cartoon trying to kill the little faggot. He will NOT eat the rat poison I left out for him, but he does somehow eat the peanut butter and cheese off of the mouse traps without setting them off. Ive come to find out they can somehow climb staight up or down walls really quickly. I have very keen hearing now from this whole ordeal, Ill hear him moving around in the kitchen in the middle of the night and try to kill him with a shovel, but hes managed to get away. Its really pissing me off.
Just a few minutes ago, one of the mouse traps got a piece of him. I heard a trap go off...it only got some hair off him.
Oh yeah. Glue traps dont work either. Hes somehow able to just overpower them or hes just pushing the tray around.
Will a rat drink antifreeze?
Whats the best way to kill this nigger?
It would be really satisfying to finally catch him in the open and stomp his guts out.

>Whats the best way to kill this nigger?

Uh, don't? A humane mouse trap is guaranteed to work. It's a little box (usually plastic) with a one-way door. Once the mouse enters, it's trapped. You just take the box outside and set the mouse free, preferably a great distance from your home.

These traps aren't costly at all. They might run you $10 at the most, and they can be continuously reused.

Bait it with peanut butter or anything that has a strong odor. The mouse should climb right in.

Don't kill the mouse, you jerkass. Just trap it and set it free somewhere. It's not going to bite you. Mice are extremely timid and won't resort to biting unless you actually put them in a corner and start poking them with your finger or some shit.

The destruction of the forests throughout most of europe, much of central north america, and all throughout the amazon suggest otherwise.

Deforestation is a huge problem recognized by a lot of environmentalists. This is absolutely not the time period with the most trees.

http://www.greenfacts.org/en/forests/l-2/2-extent-deforestation.htm#2
>>
>>2079874
There is no way that's true. Considering how much space is being used for human sprawl and the fact that humans inhabit basically all the forested regions, this is simply a physically impossible claim. And there are more people in the rainforests now than there ever have been in recorded history, so at the very least for rainforests you can be 100% sure this claim is false.
>>
>>2079874
>Some on /out/ claim that there are more trees on earth today than there has ever been in history.

I don't see how that could be possible. Our current population is ridiculously higher than it has been in any point in history. Add to that industrialization. We have to cut away forests to make room for power plants, refineries, housing units, etc. There's a lot of industrialization that goes into keeping a city running. And it's not as if populations in developed countries live within tiny Crackjack housing.
