I have cat that has been mostly an outdoor cat for the past 12 years. After he went missing for the third time and nearly starving to death because he had gotten himself trapped in a neighbors basement; I decided that it was time to make him an indoor cat.

The past 3 months have been one annoyance after another as he doesn't seem to want to get used to being indoors all day. We have a small house so he doesn't have much space to do any excercise and I am starting to notice he has some kind of limp when he walks. He spends most of the day sleeping so I don't know how he could have developed it. He is also constantly trying to get outside and meows for long periods of time in front of the back door until we do something about it (we usually just tie him up with a long leash and let him roam around the back porch for a bit).

The biggest annoyance is from family who constantly tell me I need to let him be an outside cat again and that being indoors is killing him or making him depressed or that the limp is due to being indoors all day or complaining about the smell from the cat litter.

I don't know what to do. I don't want to him to become an outdoor cat again and risk him going missing again or dying but I don't want to slowly kill him by having him indoors all day; if that is having any effect on him at all

What do, /an/?

build him some shelves for climbing, get a window box, and/or take him on nice walks on the leash

interact with him more. play with him. get the limp checked out at the vet, he may have hurt something trying to get out or underestimating a jump.

Just ignore what people are saying. You wouldn't let a toddler roam around the neighborhood unsupervised; you are doing the right thing by making the safest decision for your cat. Just ignore him when he is trying to get out; if you fuss about him and try to redirect him he'll see that his bullshit is working.

We had the same thing. Most of our cats were inside only, but my roommate had one cat he let out. He went missing for 2 weeks and then came back and gave everyone fleas. We transitioned him to be indoor only. He yelled at the door for a while, but eventually he gave up.

We have an attached garage, so we use that as the "outside". We put some cat furniture out there and let him out when he is being an asshole. He seems to like it.
>>
If you have a patio or porch area, you could consider building a "catio" to give him some safe space to enjoy the outdoors.

Hi /an/, I come to you for help. One of my dogs, a Yorkshire Terrier, sort of climbed into the house next to mine. There's another dog on the other house's roof, I think it's a pitbull. It's been a few hours now and he just won't listen when I call for him, he's just there on the other roof mounting the pitbull.

I am desperate, no one answers the door on the other house, and I'm afraid that if they see my dog they will throw him out on the street. I live in a shitty part of the city and my dog is dumb as shit, he would be immediately lost.

I tried calling him out using treats, but that didn't work. I know it's kind of a shot in the dark, but I literally have no idea what to do, and breaking into the other house to get my dog is kind if out of the question.

So basically, do any of you have any tips or ideas on what could I do? Please, I'm really desperate. Thanks in advance.

pic unrelated.

Maybe a Western Spotted Orb Weaver? It'd be a lot easier to tell if you had a pic of its back.

Do you guys like this show, I honestly think it's great.

What other good animal related shows exist?

The Lion Guard isn't the worst thing in the world but I don't really care for it. Are you looking for cartoons and comedy of sorts or are you also looking for more 'documentary' type shows? I'm not really sure about shows, but there's a bunch of good movies like Watership Down(also has a tv show i never watched), Plague Dogs, Felidae, Animals of Farthing Woods, the russian Jungle Book is really good, etc.

As for the documentary type, Big Cat Diary will always have a place in my heart. Meerkat Manor was also pretty popular.

Shit...thanks anon but Ive seen all of those already except for.lion guard

Creature Comforts was pretty good. Made by the same people who did all the other British comedy claymation films.

I am learning how to start a small garden and plan on building several beds. I am planning on rotating crops. I know that I should not grow the same family of crops in two consecutive years. However, is it still ok to grow different kinds of crops in the same family in the same year? For example, is it ok to grow radishes and then broccoli in succession in the same year?

>>2078997
it's better to not have related crops on the same plot in consecutive years. Pests often target the whole family. Plant curcubits next year, and one of the nightshades the year after. That gives you a good enough rotation that your pest species can't get well established.

Also look into raised beds or straw bale gardening as another way of keeping pests in check.
>>
>>2078997
Hate to be that assailed but in my experience polycultures mitigate pest problems.

Though coming from arural background I've come to find if say for example cover crop brassicas are being grown within a couple miles of you no amount of rotating will deter brassica pests.

Pencil cactus, I think?
>>

It looks a lot like pencil cactus, thanks! I've never heard of it before, never been interested in succulents or plants in general.

Can someone confirm/inform me more from their experience on this? forums gardenweb com / discussions / 1825286 / beware-of-the-pencil-cactus

It says there that euphorbia's sap is very toxic and dangerous, I wonder what's the chance of even touching it if the plant is sitting somewhere in a corner of your window and is hardly ever bothered there.

Discuss anything aquarium related here, including inhabitants, decor and issues.

Google is your friend.
Feel free to ask questions but know that there are a lot of resources out there that could answer your question a lot faster and accurately than /an/.

Make sure to include these things in your post before asking because we can't help you if we don't have the full picture:
-tank size
-parameters
-any and all inhabitants + how long you've had them

>I haven't paid in 4 months

If you have a partner in the uk why did you put the cat in a cattery?

You should let them rehome the cat so it can have a stable life with people who don't adopt a cat without knowing if they can stay in the same country as it.

Can /an/ ID this rat? Another one jumped off immediately but this one stayed. I thought maybe it was trying to be still so not to be noticed, but then i hit the thing its standing on and it just turned around like it was going to fucking fight back, so i hit it off of the thing where it fell into bushes. Could it have something wrong with it or was it just a fearless cunt?

Looks like a young brown rat - they can be stupid-brave before they learn a bit more sense.

Please help /an/. Theres a stray kitten thats been wandering around the neighbor hood the past few days. Its really cold and hes really tiny and I want to bring him inside but he won't let me approach him. I've been leaving food out for him and hes been consistently coming back to eat it but I've only ever caught him eating it once and he ran as soon as I opened the door.

I've left an old cat house thing outside with a towel covering one of the entrances since theres a blizzard right now so I put some food in the house to lure him. I tried just leaving my door open but it was too windy and cold and was freezing my house out.

Its way to cold and dangerous for him to be outside. Hes also very small and clearly young. Pretty skinny looking too. But I can't catch him so I can't help him. How do I catch this kitten?

Stray cat?

Inform animal control immediately.
>>
If you're lucky, a local shelter will help. Contact them first.

If you're not so lucky you can catch him yourself with a "live/humane trap", the kinds used for raccoons and stuff. Try asking around for someone you can borrow from and put some canned food in there and wait until he wanders in on his own. Put the trap under something, like a bush, so it's not scary to enter. Hopefully he's just skittish and not too feral so you can let him be warm and happy indoors with a little coaxing.
