Ok, so. My and my BF are going to be becoming home owners in the near future, and I've been looking up some information on owning bunnies, but I figured I might as well come post here as well!

I've never owned a bunny, but my BF had a Rex as a teen that he looooved! I've been looking into breeds, but I'm pretty torn. Looks wise I've fallen in love with Dwarf Hotot's... Basically what I'm wondering is what type of bunny is the most friendly, cuddly, laid back, and chill? Or just any other bunny owner tips and info, ect!
(Ps. I don't just want a bunny because Easter is coming up. We've been talking about this as long as we've been talking about becoming home owners together)

Sup /an/,
My cat has been super anti-social lately, it's really unlike him, he runs away from people (including me) when they try to pet him and he doesn't seem to want to play as much as he usually does. When I do start petting him he'll enjoy it for a couple seconds before getting really aggressive and attacking my hand.

When I adopted him his previous owner had removed his front claws. I heard declawed cats can be more antisocial and aggressive, but he's been really friendly and playful up until now.

The pic isn't my cat by the way.

Any changes in your life that could stress him?
>>
>>2084238
No, things have been pretty easy as far as I can tell.
>>
>>2084250

Okay.

Well, sometimes cats just want to be left alone.

Do you "force" yourself and your petting upon him?
If yes, then stop doing that, and let him come to you. Call on him and make cute noices and all that.

Maybe you haven't given him enough treats lately.
My two cats become savage annoyances if they don't get treats once in a while.

These videos of slow lorises aren't funny or cute. The slow lorises are terrified and ,most likely malnourished due to the way they're handled in the pet trade. They raise their arms in an attempt to gather enough hormones to get their attacker away.

Sup /an/, I was wondering if any of you knew what animal this was. (Yes I tried Google, you guys are my last resort.) I was about use my new paint brushes I bought a month ago when I pulled them out, and sitting on the brush was this tiny black and orange caterpillar type animal. I only ask because my brushes have been sitting in my bottom drawer for a month in complete darkness. I think I disturbed him because he's crawling around now. I want to put him back in the draw but I don't know if he'll grow into some penis eating butterfly or something. Thanks for reading, I'll post more pics of him as he goes about his night.

UPDATE: He's gone into hiding underneath the label, because he probably hates the light. There seems to be tiny specs sprinkled throughout the packet, like tiny ant eggs or something. I'll try and get him out of the packet safely to see better.

Damn, I was happy when the dog was finally out of it, mostly unscathed too. The guy helping seemed to lose patience a bit at the end. I guess it's because of how futile a stray dog's life is anyway.

Boy. See that row of dark little spots between his rear legs? Those are preanal pores used for scent marking. Only males have those. Also at the base of the tail you can see a slight bulge on both sides, those are his hemipenes.

Fact: Hardest part of being a pet owner is finding a vet that you can trust that isn't going to try selling you unnecessary bullshit in order to make a quick buck via pulling on your heart strings.
11 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>2083838
You just need to look around and check reviews and do leg work. Not all vets are money obsessed bullshit artists. Most are though hence why you need to put in the effort of finding one that isn't. I learned the hard way and now I know exactly when a Vet is being honest or not. It is fairly obvious.
>>
It's 2016. There has literally never been an easier time in existence to find good services and professionals.
>>
Very true. The vet I used to take my dog to was highly recommended by cat owner friends but I decided to go since it was nearby. The doctor was condescending but seemed knowledgable so we continued going for like a year. Then, just last October, my dog developed some kind of swelling on his chest. We took him in, they took a sample from the bump. A few days later she called me to tell me the results. It was "maybe" a spindle cell tumor and it would cost ~4500 to remove "most" of it. The uncertainty was obviously a red flag plus the fact that my dog was 13 months old at the time and was displaying no other signs of sickness. Not to mention, in the time between the sample taking and the result call, the bump had decreased in size. Anyway, we took him to another doctor for a second opinion and he wouldn't even do a test because he was certain the swelling was just some kind of bruise from roughousing.

I've spoken with other local dog owners about that first vet and nobody has anything good to say.

Besides it being sad not having them around anymore, is it really so bad if some species go extinct, influenced by humans or not? Most species don't make it anyways, and we have already caused the extinction of plenty of animals in the past. Europeans killed most of their megafauna and they did great. Dodo birds and mammoths were amazing, and it would have been really cool to see them today, but otherwise it's not much of a big deal.

if you want to get all nihilistic nothing matters.
>>
>>2083716
I mean if we can prevent a species dying out as a result from out activity, we should. We could probably stop worrying about pandas if china would devote their efforts to preserving their environments more than captive breeding.
but with their low birth rate and overly specific and inefficient diet, pandas weren't a very 'stable' species to begin with.
>>
>>2083716
It's really difficult to tell all the cascading effects on the ecosystem.

So it's better safe than sorry.

Maybe we already fucked up, and the effects will be seen hundred or thousand years down the line.

Far fetched scenario is ground erosion because there is no longer free-roaming grazers.

But no, not everything needs to be saved. We just barely have an idea what we are doing.

Hey, anyone have zoology or environmental science jobs? Where would you start? Would you get a job in the field first and then go to college? I need to get off my ass and that seems to be the only thing i'm interested in.

>>
>>2083637
I have a degree in zoology and I own an environmental company.

those are two very fucking different things. Almost entirely unrelated.

anyways, I've never worked in zoology, I'd guess school first on that one though. Not that it'll do you much good getting a job from what I've seen.

environmental science you absolutely want school first. Get the degree, it's about the only way you're getting in the door unless you just want to drive heavy equipment or fix pipes or some such.
>>
>>2083637

It really depends on your life. If you have the ability to go to school without working full time, that is what I would recommend.

Go to school and volunteer/intern in your spare time. If you can find a related job that will be flexible with your school schedule that would be great on your resume in the future, but definitely go to school first.

Volunteering and getting out there is really important. For one, it will help you focus your interests. I started with animals thinking I wanted to work with domestics, but quickly found out through volunteering that I hate working with domestics and I like being involved with wildlife and marine biology a lot more. Additionally, networking is important. You'll have a lot better opportunities if you can say "Oh hey, I remember seeing you at ____" or "I heard you give a talk at ____ about ____" etc.

Check out USAJOBS.gov

It's where the federal government posts official job offerings (EPA, Beareau of Land Management, etc)

I'm a Bio major and I got an internship through that
